– Cornerback Dustin Mouzon says his hip is sore to the touch but that he expects to practice this week and play against Louisiana Tech.
Mouzon sustained a hip pointer on the opening kick at Georgia.
– Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron said the absence of starting center Corey Actis at Georgia was just a decision that he made, not because of injury. He did not elaborate and did not name a starting center for Saturday.
Actis was replaced in the lineup by Thomas Eckers.
Ole Miss fumbled the center-quarterback exchange on first-and-goal from the 1 in the first quarter. Offensive coordinator Dan Werner said the tape did not reveal a discernible problem with the snap. It was just fumbled.
Orgeron said that sometimes such decisions occur when “guys don’t do the things I expect them to do.”
– Missed tackles continued to haunt the Rebels at Georgia, as the Bulldogs rushed for 345 yards. One of the most visible offenders was free safety Kendrick Lewis, a sophomore and converted wide receiver.
Defensive coordinator John Thompson defended Lewis.
“The free safety stands out there alone like a center fielder, and when he makes a mistake everybody sees it. Kendrick Lewis is going to be a good player for us, a real good player. He just moved over in the spring, and he’s only played five games.”
– Orgeron said some of his younger players would get a chance for more playing time this week but did not cite any specific depth chart changes. He mentioned freshman linebacker Scottie Williams and freshmen DLs Lawon Scott and Ted Laurent as candidates for more playing time. Some of the Rebels’ most visible tackling problems, however, have come from linebackers and in the secondary, not defensive linemen.
