Coordinator of officials Rogers Redding says he’s reviewed the catch/take-away by Shay Hodge and agrees with the judgment of replay official Doyle Jackson.

What a surprise. Boy, I feel better now.

  2. Olemissbacker Says:

djrebel you have yet to state how you feel on the play, you have commented on the fact that you have not seen the replay, but you have yet to tell us what you thought of the call to reverse it, you surely have an opnion on the play, you are the beat writer for the rebels? Right??

  3. Kossuthreb Says:

So, the SEC thinks that there was “indisputable” evidence to overturn the call on the field? I think this is just a case of the SEC protecting its’ own. No rational person could view that replay and state for certain if A) Hodge was not forced out of bounds and B) that Hodge was the first person to touch the ball.

  4. djrebel Says:

I would like to see the replay if you know of a link to it.

It sounds to me, based on what I’ve head from Rogers Redding, that the evidence was not strong enough to reverse the play.

If you have one angle that shows two players touch the ball at the same time, it would seem to me that it’s not conclusive as to who touched the ball first.

Hey guys, Gregg has a post over on his blog that says his dad is going to have to have heart bypass surgery soon, I think it was kinda of a spur of the moment thing. He wants everyone on his blog to pray for his dad, Harold. I just wanted to let you guys know if you haven’t seen it so y’all can be doing the same.

  7. Kathryn Says:

My understanding is that the call was overruled because you can tell that 1. He wasn’t FORCED out of bounds 2. wasn’t established in the field of play before the catch.

Of course, I’m just a girl.

  8. imabulldog Says:

Theres a link on the daily journal sports page, I haven’t watched it yet.

  9. MONTYSREBELS.TUPELO Says:

IT WAS VERY OBVIOUS THAT THE DEFENSIVE BACK ROAD HODGES OUT OF BOUNDS, EVEN PLACING HIS RIGHT HAND ON HODGES BODY; ACCORDING TO THE RULE ITSELF THE RECEIVER SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO TOUCH, CATCH AND TAKE AWAY THE BALL FROM THE DEFENDER (AS HE DID), ALSO IF IT WASN’T A CATCH WHY DIDN’T THE SIDE JUDGE RULE IT NO GOOD. IT APPEARS THAT ONCE AGAIN SABIN (OR THE BIG SCHOOL) CARRIES MORE WEIGHT IN WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED A FAIR GAME. PS I’M ALSO A GIRL.

  10. Kathryn Says:

Oh – I should mention that I’m not a Bama fan.

  11. m4rebs Says:

Kathryn, with all due respect, your first point is debatable. Your second however, never even came up. He ran 2 or 3 steps in bounds after he ran out of bounds which would technically re-establish himself in the field of play. I believe the issue that is claimed by the officials and the league office is that Hodge was the first to touch the ball after he came out of bounds, and that it was OBVIOUS from the angles that he was the first. I however, strongly disagree that 1) He was the first to touch the ball since the Bama player had 2 hands on it prior to Hodge touching it, 2) the definition of FORCE is hazy in this situation since the two gentlemen were bumping each other down the sideline. Either way, if #1 was ruled in favor of Hodge, #2 wouldn’t matter. However, if #2 was ruled in favor of Hodge, #1 wouldn’t matter. Since neither were ruled in Hodge’s favor, another MORAL victory and a big 0 in the SEC Win Column, again.

  12. VA Reb Says:

Just wondering how the call is going to affect the Rebs this week. Hopefully, they have put it behind them and are ready to tackle two of the best, if not the best, running backs in the nation. Hope to see some “wrapping up” the tackles on Saturday. Go Rebs!

  13. dawgfaninva Says:

VA reb were are you from in VA?

  14. Neil Murphy Says:

Why is everyone so surprized that Ole Miss found a way to lose to Alabama? I’m a long time Bama fan and anytime we play Ole Miss I keep in mind that no matter how close the game is or how pitifully the Tide plays I can count on Ole Miss to find a way to lose. This past Saturday I turned the game off because I couldn’t stand watching Alabama stumble around. But I really wasn’t too worried about the outcome – it was Ole Miss and they would find a way to lose and of course they did. As far as the call – whether it was good or not Ole Miss had plenty of opportunties to win that game long before the final seven seconds. But of course as we all know – Alabama wins games like that and Ole Miss doesn’t

  15. Shelia Says:

I watched the game. I saw the player run out of bounds. On his own! I also know Doyle Jackson. Doyle has NOTHING to gain by making a call for Alabama. He’s not from Alabama and is not an Alabama fan. He is a fan of football, be that SEC, ACC, Big 10 or pro ball. Doyle is a veteran official with an impeccible record. I think it’s ashame you folks don’t have anything better to do then judge another man. This was a football game. Put it in perspective!

  18. m4rebs Says:

themaroonandwhite…..my ticket well is dry this weekend. I will probably have 1 ticket, but I’m sure you don’t want to leave your lady friend hanging out to dry. Sorry.

  19. oxfordrebel Says:

Sheila, you’re obviously a little detached if you cannot see how this would affect fans of a screwed team. This is a blog for Ole Miss fans, if you’re gonna come on here and scold us for something that we have every right to do if we want, then I suggest you keep those opinions to yourself or don’t come back at all.

  20. oxfordrebel Says:

I’ll also remind you Mr. Murphy, that for a team that is worried about image as much as any team in the country, your team has certainly shown this season that they are a far cry from any type of team capable of achieving anything in the near future. Heck, they don’t even look as good as their record shows this year. I don’t want to hear you running your Bama mouth on here about how crappy our team is when you guys have one that is just about as bad youself.

  21. bully4prez Says:

Alabama sure does win games like that Neil the Thrill. About like you won that game against Georgia. So obviously “we all” didn’t know that Bama wins games like that.

  22. chad Says:

was he supposed to say anything different? the correct call was made. the fact that ole miss continues to discuss this is why they are ole miss. they have said nothing of the miserable play of their qb in the 4th quarter that allowed bama to win in the first place. not to mention the fact that was the first time in five years bama came back to win when trailing at the end of the third qt. congratulations rebs, you’ve reached another low, and you continue to blame everyone but yourself. to say that call cost ole miss the game, assumes facts not in evidence. there is no proof ole miss would have scored a td on the next play. nor is there any proof they would have made a game tying field goal to go to ot. bama beat them in ot last year so i don’t think that would have been a big deal either. rool tide

  23. oxfordrebel Says:

You friggin bama fans chap my tail end. There hasn’t been a freakin thing said on this blog about the call in 3 days, and now mr. chad has to come on and try to start things up all over again. As I’ve already told another poster, this is an OLE MISS BLOG, you’re open to your opinion but tell someone who cares. Go talk about it with you elephant lovin buddies on a cousin lovin bama blog. And I also suggest you stop worrying about what is said on here and focus on not getting trampled by TN this weekend. Ive never been a TN supporter but you can bank I’ll be singing rocky top this weekend.

Rool tide, hahaha, definetly from alabama!!!

  24. bully4prez Says:

Chad…..wait……no. You can’t be the one from the Alltool commerciooools. There’s noooo way that’s pooooossible……

    Rool tide Rool
    around the bowl
    and down the hole!!!

  25. chad Says:

oxfordrebel and bully4prez ok I get it, it is roll tide and not rool tide. sue me! At least I have enough nerve to tell the truth and give my own name. Of course if I were an Ole Miss fan I wouldn’t tell anyone who I was either. As far as rooting for UT this weekend, knock yourself out. I think we have a pretty good chance, but even if they beat us 40 it won’t change one thing that happened in oxford last weekend. Don’t blame you for rooting for UT. Hey you can’t beat bama so you might as well be happy for those who do. Roll Tide!!!!!!!!!!! p.s. feel free to point out any gramatical errors in this post, it only serves to further enhance the opinion that your focus is not where it should be which is on your 2-5, 0-4 football team.

  26. oxfordrebel Says:

And as I said before, BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH, and furthermore BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH. Chad, as you boldly pointed out is your real name, nobody cares what you say on this blog. It’s all hogwash, or rather, elephantwash, the hogwash is this weekend.

And did you honestly not expect to catch some heat by posting that first post. Really? I mean, you come on here to a site for Ole Miss fans and try to start all this crap back up that we’ve already laid to rest, that Mr. Chad, is very classless and doesn’t show much character. There are a lot of MSU fans that frequent this site that would not do what you did. It’s b/c of people like you that I hate the Tide and would rather see them suffer more than any other team in the nation. You are all cocky arrogant people that think that you are the only team in the nation that matters. I lived in Bama a couple of years and have seen your kind firsthand. You are a stereotypical, Grade A piece of horse crap Bama fan and I think it would be best if you just shut up with the talk and go back to your herd.

This was posted by JUSTIN AKA oxfordrebel and I had the nerve to post this.

  27. chad Says:

oxfordrebel did you just refer to me as “classless” and then a couple of lines later say i was a “cocky arrogant bastard” oh that shows real class on behalf of all rebel fans. I am so thankful that i root for a truely classy university and not one that resorts to cheap putdowns or thorowing whiskey bottles and red high heel shoes onto the field. Not the first time that has happened either. I was in oxford in 93 when the ABC camerman got clocked in the head with the whiskey bottle. REAL CLASSY!!!!!!!!! made every rebel proud I am sure. Roll Tide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. bully4prez Says:

Chadwick, I have no idea what you’re talking about. I never noticed any error in your previous post.

On another note. I CAN NOT help what my parents named me. I was not as fortunate as you were to receive a “normal” name. My nerves are obviously not made of steel as yours seem to be seeing that you gave your FIRST name you brave brave man. But now that you bring it up i believe i know you. I had Biology with a Chad my freshman year of college. That has to be you!! What are the chances?? It’s good to put a face with the name. I should have known as soon as i saw Chad. Well Chad it’s been nice chatting with you. I hope you have a great day Chad. I’ve got to get back to teaching my English Composition class Chad.

  29. oxfordrebel Says:

So I guess throwing water bottles and other tossable objects at the GA Bulldogs was ok huh? It’s funny how I’ve seen so many Bamers say “shame on you for throwing things” and they ALWAYS fail to mention that little incident earlier this year. Did that just slip your mind Chad? Is what you all did ok compared to what we did? Cause to alot of people, we’re riding in the same boat. I read an artilce on espn.com that had both of our names mentioned when it came to throwing things. Do you really want to go there Chad? As bad as you hate to admit it, we’re kind of mirror images of each other this season. I know it burns, but you guys are no better than us. Do you here that, absolutely no better.

And I have taken it alot easier on you than what alot of rebels would. I think that i have made most Rebels proud, standing up for my team to the likes of the spoiled brats of the SEC. Rool Tide, Rool Tide!

  30. m4rebs Says:

I thought it was interesting to see some of the Bama players throwing some of the objects that were first thrown onto the field back at the fans in the South Endzone. I didn’t see UGA guys throwing stuff back, but I think players taunting ANY student section in the SEC (other than Vandy, maybe) after an emotional loss, would provoke fans to do EXACTLY what BOTH Alabama and our fans did. I’m not condoning, just being realistic. The media sure does rip fans when it happens, but I’m not sure why they seem shocked to see it happen, time and time again. We’re not illiterate in Alabama, just prone to mistakes OR, both Bamers and Ole Miss Alabama-grown products.

  31. chad Says:

oxfordrebel just wondered if you were watching the bama/ut game. 38-17 with five minutes to go and bama is driving again. congratulations on that first half effort vs the hogs
