FYI: Where’s everybody from?

We’ve picked up some new users lately, going back to the Greg Hardy saga I think, and peaking with O, the aftermath of fourth-and-1 and the hiring of Houston Nutt.

Gregg did a sort of roll call on his blog that let him see where a lot of his users were from, who sees the printed edition, who are exclusively internet users and that sort of thing. It gives us an idea on how to proceed with blog coverage.

The blogs are the quickest way we can get things online. It takes a little longer for an online story at djournal.com and longer, of course, for the daily product.

Live in Pontotoc and avid OM fan for years. Never read your blog before the coaching change came about, but I check it everyday now. You do a great job on reporting OM sports. Keep up the good work.

  9. farley662 Says:

No offense, but if that is true about Tubby, they got the better end of this whole coaching change deal. Don’t like the man, but Tubby is one heck of a coach!

  10. rebelrock Says:

Also forget to report, on Tub going to Ark, a local t.v. station in Fayetteville has reported that he is going to be the Hawgs next coach.

  11. HerbieT Says:

Born and raised in Oxford, now living in Franklin, TN (just south of Nashville).

  12. gregzillahyun Says:

I am a Razorback Fan in Oxford . It will be really weird if Tommy Tubberville goes to Arkansas especially when Arkansas plays Ole Miss in Fayetteville. Wonder if Tubbervillle is starting to think that wet Hawgs smell good.

  13. brainstorm Says:

Ole Miss graduate living in Arkadelphia, AR.

  14. oxfordrebel Says:

Born in Tupelo, raised in a little community called Houston (not the town or city), between Baldwyn and Mantachie, way out in the booneys. Attended Mantachie HS, class of 03, had a 2 year stint in Florence AL, and now am back in MS in Oxford, been here a year now. Been reading the DJ for a long time, I can remember when PA covered the Dawgs and Gregg had the Rebs.

That reminds me PA, I’ve been meaning to ask you, why did you a Gregg switch teams several years ago? Do y’all do that sporatically to cut down on the monatany of covering the same team year in and year out?

Anyways, i love this blog, it’s a great outlet for Rebels and Dawgs alike. PA and Gregg both do wonderful jobs keeping it up to date (although I’m a little more partial to PA :) )

  16. Jared Says:

Grew up near Monticello and have been living in Oxford for the past 5.5 years. I’m an online user.

Rarely post, but let me take the time to say thanks for all the work and that you do a great job. We appreciate the effort.

  17. Steve Schoenly Says:

Like Jared, I rarely comment, but I do read this blog every day and enjoy it tremendously. For some reason I like quick-hit blog pieces more than reporting stories, and it’s fun to watch stories develop. I grew up in Oxford, attended Ole Miss (BA 92, MA 94) and now live in New Jersey, so I’m following things from afar.

I enjoy your writing! Keep it up!

  18. Thomas Says:

I live in Fayetteville, TN. I just recently found your blog during the coaching change and appreciated your updates very much. I don’t subscribe to the paper and I rarely visit the Daily Journal site (seldom updated the few times I have visited).

  19. RWReb Says:

Meridian Ms, keep up the good work, your coverage of the Rebs is the best!

  20. djrebel Says:

OR, Gregg and I switched beats under our former sports editor, Gene Phelps. Gene just felt like we needed to change things up at the time. We are often asked if we will switch back, but there is no plan to do that at this time. Different papers that have two SEC schools to cover handle that in different ways. Some switch, some don’t.

People always want us to compare the two schools and then say he we prefer to cover, and I have a very scientific response. I prefer Ole Miss, because it saves me about 20 minutes of drive time from West Tupelo.

Honestly, there are good people to cover at both schools throughout the year, and that’s what makes it fun … that and winning a few games.

I am a diehard Ole Miss Rebel, consisdering I worked in Athletic Department for 4 years 1991-1995. 91-93 as Assistant Equipment Manager. 93-95 as GA Football Coach under Billy Brewer. I got the urge to coach high school football, so I left Ole Miss when Coach Brewer was fired.

We keep current on the times up around Oxford, thru her family, The on-line Oxford Eagle, The Tupelo Journal (thanks PA and all), Ole Miss sports on-line web site, the SECSports. com, Dixie-Net, and some other web sites.

Also at our Church the congregation is made up from a Mississippi connect, most from Miss State. My son and I are the only Ole Miss fans there, but we can handle that Miss State gang.

I do have a Rebel baseball cap with the a large patch displaying the Ole Rebel Colonel on the front. Maybe on our trip to Oxford Dec 15th I will were that hat and parade around Oxford, just to let them remember what the Ole Colonel still looks like. The Best to all, Jimmy Barbee

    PA,
Ft.Pierce,Fla……My father graduated from OM…..Father from Hardy,MS,Mother from Crenshaw.Born and raised in Fla….There was a guy in West Palm Bch that used to sponsor OM football games on AM radio in the sixties. My father would drive us out in the country on Sat.nite so we could get reception and we would listen to games.Been a diehard ever since. Also, drove all over the SE watching some games as a kid.Have done the same with my own kids……..My father’s favorite story and claim to fame was being in Tiger stadium on Halloween night in 1959.He had hopped a freight train and had a buddy from the Marine Corp at LSU and was going to stay until Sunday. He was so mad when OM was stopped on four downs at the one that he walked out of the stadium and hopped the train back and has never set foot in LA again…….I would like to thank you for taking the time to keep us informed.I know it’s a handful but very much appreciated by us out of staters who crave whatever info we can about Ole Miss………And by the way, caught your interview on rivals with Bill King.Great job…….For info purposes, read news and blog.
