HALFTIME: South Carolina 39, Ole Miss 34

By djrebel

South Carolina has slowed this thing down, and the Rebels haven’t responded well. Rebels fell behind by eight and rallied to lead, but they are struggling with shooting and turnovers with nine. The last turnover left just enough time on the clock for Devan Downey to take it the distance.

Rebels led 32-31 after a Zach Graham 3-pointer with 2:27 left but were outscored 8-2 the rest of the way.

Gamecocks are 5-of-11 from 3-point range, two of them by Lithuanian center Evaldas Daniulis. They’re getting good looks, as that stat might indicate.

We have major match-up problems on the Defensive end. They are spreading it out when they have the ball and penetrating well. They are diluting our big-man presence. We have taken advantage of their lack of size on the offensive end, but we aren’t playing defense well enough to win this game. If we continue to turn the ball over in the second half, we will have our 2nd loss at home in the Andy Kennedy era, and South Carolina will have it’s 1st win in Oxford and all those “key stats” that Poindexter and Fishhook have quoted all game long.

The home record under Kennedy is quite impressive, but the SEC wins here haven’t all been that convincing, especially LSU and Florida. There were near-misses in pre-conference too against New Mexico and South Alabama.

Some things are going to have to change in the second half if the Rebels are going to pull this one out.
