HOOPS: West Virginia at Ole Miss

May 6, 2008

Looks like a done deal for West Virginia to visit Ole Miss for regular season basketball early next season. That will match Andy Kennedy against Bob Huggins, who hired him while he was head coach at Cincinnati.

FYI: Rebels score well in APR

May 6, 2008

No worries for the Rebels in the Academic Progress Rate report released today by the NCAA.

With 900 being a cut-off score before penalties might occur, Ole Miss was above 900 in every men’s and women’s sport.

The lowest score is men’s indoor track at 908. Basketball scored 917, football 939 and baseball 947.

The lowest women’s score is cross country at 944.

The smartest athletes on campus play women’s golf. They scored 992.

FYI: Today’s Agenda

May 6, 2008

Tuesday means radio, and today I’ve got Scott Rabalais of the Baton Rouge Advocate coming on as we continue our season-ending spring football tour. Just a couple more shows before we take a summer break. I’m sure Scott will have some Ryan Perrilloux insight as well.

I’m working on a column on Ole Miss tennis coach Billy Chadwick and an advance on the SEC softball tournament, which includes Ole Miss in spite of a 1-17 start in conference play. The Rebels are the eighth-seed and will take on No. 1 seed Florida Thursday in Baton Rouge.

Baseball is off again today. It’s final exam time on campus, and the Rebels will return to practice tomorrow.
