BASEBALL: Pomeranz vs. Paxton tonight
Ole Miss will throw freshman left-hander Drew Pomeranz against Kentucky in tonight’s late game which will start any time between 8 p.m. and midnight.
Pomeranz is 4-3 but has not won since an April 19 decision at South Carolina. He’s given up at least six runs in three of his last four starts, the exception beging at Georgia on May 3 when he went 6 1-3 innings with five hits, four runs and five walks.
Last Friday at Kentucky Pomeranz went 3 1-3 innings and gave up seven hits, six runs, five earned, two walks and struck out five in a game the Rebels lost 9-0.
Kentucky will start right-hander James Paxton. He’s 4-2 with a 2.57 ERA. He just blanked the Rebels in that same 9-0 game. He gave up seven hits, struck out six and did not walk a batter.

Hard to dominate a team twice in a row. Ain’t it?

Maybe not this team Nate. I thought at the beginning of the season that pitching would be Ole Miss’ strong suit, but that has not shown up as consistently as I thought it would.
Ole Miss has struggled in all three phases at some point or other, but like you, I thought last night was a very clean game from the standpoint of pitching and defense.
The pitching was the best I’ve seen it last night.
Offensively, they got 12 hits, but they’re just not getting on base in other ways … like errors and walks.
I think Mike knows he has to be more creative to score runs with this team, and that’s why Ferguson stole third in the ninth.
When you get 12 hits, you’ve got to get more than 4 runs. This team still needs more clutch hitting. Overbeck did it in the first, but others have to do it as well.

I have been bad disapointed in Smith I know he is a freshman but I think Bianco has not utilized some players enough.
I think Jeremy Travis should see some at bats.
It is not like pitchers are fooling Matt Smith they are jut raring back and humming fastballs by him.

Nice to know the importance of walks and errors are becoming an issue. It is almost impossible to score more than 4 runs in an inning without them.
