A few observations from the first four periods of Tuesday’s practice.
– Senior backup receiver Jacarious Lucas was not dressed today. He has to clear up some academic issues.
– Senior wide receiver Mike Wallace was held out of much of camp, precautionary we were told, to heal a hamstring. Wallace returned late last week and was dressed and full go today. He’s got big-play potential on any snap, and the Rebels need Wallace in the rotation.
– Today was the first of what will be two full-speed, full-gear practices during regular game weeks. One big difference is that “Bull in the Ring” is over and done with. During camp this was standard at the end of pre-practice stretch each day. It got players fired up and into the workout and got them a taste of contact as well. No need for additional contact this time of the season.
– Game week also brings the scout team into full focus. Among the quarterbacks, Jevan Snead and Billy Tapp were in red no-contact jerseys. Freshman Nathan Stanley was in the blue scout team jersey.

PA, I don’t get it. How does he have academic issues on day 2 of class. Summer school?

PA, What’s your guess on substitution/platooning by positions (except for RB which you’ve covered already)? OL it appears Markuson (sp?) will not have a 1 & 2, but use 2-3 players to insert periodically. What about DL? Do you expect it will be similar or will they use a 1st & 2nd? LBs? DBs? I’ve also read elsewhere that the new JC transfer TE has really won that job–what’s your read?

I don’t know. Nutt didn’t go into specifics beyond “academic issues.”

Rebnutt, I expect Reid Neely to play on the OL, then perhaps Brandon Green at center or a guard. Bradley Sowell and Alex Washington would be next, but I expect there to be seven OL playing.
I’m not sure how much Powe will play on the DL. I figure the top four among the tackles will be Tillman, Scott, Smith and Laurent.
I think the tight ends will be interchangeable depending on situations.
Lamar Brumfield had a nice finish to camp, and the 2-deep at each linebacker spot could play. I’m thinking three cornerbacks play. If there’s a fourth it’s Jeremy McGee.
