OXFORD – Ole Miss Athletics
Director Pete Boone announced Wednesday a
three-game football series with Fresno State
University, which will mark the first gridiron
meetings between the two schools.
The first game is scheduled for Oxford
on Sept. 25, 2010, while Ole Miss will then
return the game to Fresno, Calif., on Oct. 1,
2011. The final game of the series will be in
Oxford in 2015, with the date yet to be determined.
“We are excited about adding Fresno
State to our non-conference schedule,” Boone
said. “Fresno State has a great tradition in
football and Coach Pat Hill continues to keep the
Bulldogs competitive on the national scene. I
anticipate three hard-fought games, and the 2011
season will also provide a great trip to the West Coast for our fans.”
Currently a member of the Western
Athletic Conference, Fresno State has won a total
of 23 league titles, including three WAC crowns,
and participated in 21 bowl games.

Parrish,
Can you give a recap of other deals like this that we have signed for the future. Would be interesting if we could map out a schedule of other future non conference opponents.
Thanks

I don’t have all the dates in front of me immediately, but Georgia Tech, Clemson and Texas are all on deck.
I hope I’m on the beat in 2011. Would love to see Fresno.
How bout the Rebels and a Big 10 opponent?
Whatever the case, I need the administration to pay closer attention to the MLB schedule. It was tragic in 2006 to stay in St. Louis on a Friday night with the Cardinals out of town.

Interesting! Be good adventure for Mississippi.

Fresno, the most southern city in California. That’s a team that can catch you unawares, lull you with all those palm trees and free raisins, and then WHAM, they’ve done whooped your but.

i like this….always good to have reputable programs like fresno and texas on your non-conference schedule….

Wow . . . what a responsive administration!! This is a powerful blog you have goin’ here! No, seriously, this is great. Fresno is a super legitimate program, and as long as we focus on continuing to regain the stability we typically have had as a program (somewhere between dominant and competitive) these will be good games for us. I am definitely with PBeez though, the game in Cali is a scary one.
PA, any chance the Texas game could be slated for Snead’s senior year? And, thanks for putting legitimate stuff on here–this blog is great!

this is almost as exciting as state playing Maine. lol This is awesome, I would love to see Snead and McCoy duke it out. Can you say PRIMETIME!

Great news. Glad the administration listened to our bitching about our non-conference opponents and fixed it immediately!!! I can live with Samford if we also have teams like Texas, Clemson, GA Tech on the sked (still believe we should be playing USM though!). I know…about beat that horse to death.

First time the Rebels have ever played in California??
Pacific time zone in general??
Ole Miss has never played a Pac-10 team, so that would eliminate most of the Pacific time zone teams we could have ever played.

I just looked at the map as I had absolutely no idea what part of CA Fresno is in. I thought it was north of SF but it’s sorta between LA and SF.
Nice week or so vacation, anyone?

Surely they are working on 2 more ooc opponents for next yearalso. But this is a very nice schedule addition.

I thought Texas was on the schedule for next season? What happened to that?

Fresno is flat, hot and dry. Its a real working class, farming town – well city. It is close to Yosemite and Sequoia national parks – so you can see the BIG TREES!

JB,
Maybe you can pipe in on this……There was an OM alum down here in S. Fla. that sponsored OM football on the radio. If memory serves me correctly Ole Miss would play Long Beach State on pretty regular basis in the late 60″ and early 70″s. I don’t believe that this is there first trip to California……….I could be wrong.
