Congrats on Pat.
February 4, 2009 at 10:13 am |
Patterson just picked up the Ole Miss cap after putting on a show and hovering over the Alabama cap on WCBI. Leaving Tupelo now.

February 4, 2009 at 10:16 am |
Whew! Patterson a Rebel!
February 4, 2009 at 10:17 am |
Rivals says Ole Miss officially signed Gaines and Marry.
February 4, 2009 at 10:18 am |
I think maybe Pat thought about catching bullets from Sneed
February 4, 2009 at 10:25 am |
Thanks farley, this one will probably get us on the NCAA’s Watch list. He may be more trouble than good, but for today, I’m taking a positive outlook; I’m hoping for Julio Jones type-contribution next year. We shall see.
I think Massie is the key to our class. Maybe he isn’t even on the radar, but I think he is a huge (no pun intended) deal for our class this year.
February 4, 2009 at 10:28 am |
Awesome. What time are Cotton and Brown Supposed to decide?
February 4, 2009 at 10:31 am |
Brown is at 2:45 on ESPNU. I’m not holding my breathe on him though. The Rivals Radio guys act like it is Ohio State or Georgia on him. Ole Miss doesn’t even have a prayer if you listen to those guys, and I don’t blame them, do you?
February 4, 2009 at 10:33 am |
He’s a good player. No doubt.
February 4, 2009 at 10:35 am |
Where did ya’ll see Patterson put on the hat I’m watching ESPNU I haven’t seen it is it on Rebelvision?
February 4, 2009 at 10:36 am |
I’m not expecting to pick up brown, but I’m interested since we actually have a dog in the hunt. We’ve already taken one from Bama (Patterson). It will be interesting to how how we do against some other big name schools.
February 4, 2009 at 10:36 am |
I heard Brown was heading to OSU. Massie would be a big pickup as he could come in and start right away.
February 4, 2009 at 10:37 am |
Patterson is everywhere. The Ole Miss website has it as well as rivals.
Massie was supposed to announce at 9:30. Any word?
February 4, 2009 at 10:37 am |
WCBI, in Columbus did stick. He wasn’t “big” enough for the U. Just local yocals in North Miss got to see it.
February 4, 2009 at 11:00 am |
Thanks ya’ll C-L says Patterson has not sent in his LOI though. All I have seen on ESPNU is LSU ALA TENN USC. ALl they care about is the top ten it looks like. Anywhere I can listen to this on the net I’m out of state.
February 4, 2009 at 11:00 am |
Good start to the day! M4 – hope we are all wrong on the NCAA watch dog list!! We’ve had enough of that stuff.
Agreed on Massie – that one would be ‘BIG’! Let’s keep hoping for more good news…..
February 4, 2009 at 11:02 am |
i can’t find any word on massie/tig yet…anyone?
February 4, 2009 at 11:06 am |
Anybody have a membership on rivals? Posts say congrats to OM on Marlon Brown. Also has a subject line that reads: massie is a… I can’t see the post.
February 4, 2009 at 11:08 am |
Patterson has sent in his LOI
February 4, 2009 at 11:13 am |
wish PA would hurry up and get to Oxford and give us an updated list.
February 4, 2009 at 11:15 am |
I saw that Patterson is official. Yea you right where is PA? If that is true about Marlon Brown that would be a shocker. Rebs need Massie.
February 4, 2009 at 11:16 am |
Hey Jeff, I’m here! Drove 72 miles an hour today, up from my normal 70. (Ha)
Ole Miss lists the paper work on 21 signees right now.
Massie and Tig are supposed to announce at the same time, right about now. Waiting to hear.
February 4, 2009 at 11:16 am |

February 4, 2009 at 11:16 am |
PA is enroute from Tupelo. I guess he stayed home to watch the Patterson announcement on WCBI.
February 4, 2009 at 11:17 am |
I watched the Patterson deal on WCBI just before leaving the Wellness Center. I had heard he was leaning Ole Miss, but he made a show of hovering over the Alabama cap before picking up the Ole Miss cap. Caps for State and Southern Miss were also on the table.
Don’t know if this affects Brown’s decision.
February 4, 2009 at 11:18 am |
Bobby Massie has chosen Ole Miss, I’m told. Just received a text messaage.
February 4, 2009 at 11:18 am |
massie a rebel according to rivals!!!!!
February 4, 2009 at 11:20 am |
Glad you made it safely PA. We were all panicking out here….glad Patterson is official.
Waiting for the rest of the cream for this crop now.
February 4, 2009 at 11:21 am |
Massie is the best pickup by far in my eyes. Desperately needed the guy.
February 4, 2009 at 11:21 am |
Massie is a huge pickup, I can’t believe it!!!
February 4, 2009 at 11:21 am |
If that’s true PA….we’re putting a whooping on Alabama today.
February 4, 2009 at 11:21 am |
Ole Miss currently lists the paper work for 21 signees including Patterson and LB Mike Marry. The Rebels were considered to be in good shape with both players, but neither gave a verbal commit.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 11:21 am |
The official list is available and is updated every few minutes on the ole miss sports site. http://www.olemisssports.com
February 4, 2009 at 11:22 am |
Goodness ta ll dont believe anything i told you massie patterson and cotton would be rebels days ago brown is still undecided grandmother wants om he thinks patterson hurts him
February 4, 2009 at 11:24 am |
On the DL front, the Rebels have received the papers on Corey Gaines, a recent 4-star commit from Tallhassee, who chose Ole Miss over Auburn.
Not listed among the signees, yet, is 4-star DL Craig Drummond, of Chicago, who is already enrolled in school.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 11:24 am |
No word on Raymond Cotton yet.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 11:26 am |
Raymond announces at 1:00 I believe PA
February 4, 2009 at 11:27 am |
Rivals has OM having 32 LOI How many more? Lots of greyshirts it looks like.
February 4, 2009 at 11:30 am |
Bring on the BEASTS!!! Keep bringing the good news.
February 4, 2009 at 11:40 am |
When is Mason going to sign?
February 4, 2009 at 11:41 am |
Va Reb, I was thinking the other day you hadn’t been on in a while. Good to see you back.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 11:43 am |
Thanks, PA. I’ve been reading….just haven’t had much to say! Larry
February 4, 2009 at 11:44 am |
Guys, there’s a lot of hype on signing day, and often unrealistic expectations are laid out for these guys
However …
If Massie lives up to his pub, this is a huge pick up, a guy that can come in and make an impact next year.
The staff liked what they saw from Bradley Sowell this year. He is going to figure in on the OL. Whether he plays alongside Massie or behind him — or vice versa after the competition plays itself out — the OL gets stronger.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 11:45 am |
JG, don’t know about Mason. Refresh me on who that is.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 11:47 am |
Zacheous Mason?
February 4, 2009 at 11:47 am |
Rivals is saying OM but ESPNU is still saying undecided
February 4, 2009 at 11:48 am |
Man, I forgot about him. Haven’t seen the paper work and haven’t hard when he’ll sign. I didn’t hear that was wavering, though, so I figure he’ll come through. Sounds like a really good pick-up, an athletic, 6-4, 250 tight end.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 11:49 am |
PA,
Not only is the OL stronger…the receiving corps is much stronger. Ja-Mes Logan has inked his papers too.
February 4, 2009 at 11:49 am |
Marlon Brown maybe JG?
How can 6′8″, 335 lbs not work out for us PA? I see nothing but upside to this guy. And when Markuson gets through with him, NFL Draft will be our next competition, sooner rather than later. We all need to tell him he needs to get better footwork, from now till 2012.
February 4, 2009 at 11:49 am |
I like the way we are getting recruits from all over the nation and thats what you’ve got to do to become a national powerhouse.
February 4, 2009 at 11:50 am |
Who’s holding down the “Fort” today? It appears that everyone is glued to the tv, seeing who is going where.
Now here’s my question about Ole Miss, did they get a good signing?
February 4, 2009 at 11:51 am |
Paper work has been received on Jackson K Andrew Ritter and Lithonia, Ga., LB Joel Kight.
Kight’s only 3-feet tall (5-9 actually), but I’m told he’s a fierce hitter with really good speed.
February 4, 2009 at 11:51 am |
PA are u familiar with the kicker form Denham? I think his name is Lewis very strong leg and wants to go to LSU but they picked another kicker. He kicked a couple of 50 yarders this year and a lot of touchbacks. OM solid on Ritter?
February 4, 2009 at 11:51 am |
Great so far JB, State looks good as well
February 4, 2009 at 11:53 am |
Matt, the road the relevance is littered with high-profile busts. I’m like you, I look at it and say, how can this not work. I believe Massie will be fine, but you never know for sure.
Some guys that sign today will bust, some will come in and be good but probably not as good as the hype.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 11:53 am |
Oku maybe leaving Tenn and coming to OM according to Rivals Radio on XM
February 4, 2009 at 11:54 am |
I was referring to Z Mason, just wondering why he has not sent in his paperwork, I think he is the beast of the class!
February 4, 2009 at 11:54 am |
Redstick, I know a little about the Lewis kids, Ronnie I believe is his first name, just from reading the Advocate and such. I know he nailed some long ones this season that helped my deal old Yellow Jackets to the district championship.
I believe I read that his dad played at LSU, but I didn’t reconize his dad’s name.
Where’s he going? Is he an LSU commit?
February 4, 2009 at 11:55 am |
Z has made verbal commit, don’t know about paperwork. They had Z on Rivals Radio about 9 am my time
February 4, 2009 at 11:57 am |
Paper work now in for DeMarcus Knight, 6-2, 230, LB of Morristown, Tenn.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 11:57 am |
A buddy of mine in Memphis whos son plays with Brown says he will commit to OM, hope he’s right.
February 4, 2009 at 11:58 am |
Anybody know anything on DL Alex Williams?
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 11:58 am |
No I heard LSU worked him out. But they have another kicker they really liked. I think we will see him somewhere though. I heard he might walk on at LSU if no offers.
February 4, 2009 at 12:00 pm |
What about Drummond?
February 4, 2009 at 12:00 pm |
Don’t know anything about him other than leg strength, but I think he did hit a 57-yarder this year.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 12:00 pm |
I’ve heard or seen nothing on Alex Williams PA.
February 4, 2009 at 12:01 pm |
Aside from popular belief, Ole Miss athletes do attend class, and from what I’ve heard, Drummond is in class this Wednesday morning. Priorities in order in my opinion.
February 4, 2009 at 12:02 pm |
Whats the atmosphere like with the FB office today PA?
February 4, 2009 at 12:02 pm |
I checked Arkansas list and Alex Williams is not on there either
February 4, 2009 at 12:02 pm |
No sweat on Drummond. He’s in school. Has to go through the process of signing. Don’t know when he’ll be “officially” listed.
February 4, 2009 at 12:02 pm |
Y’all will quickly see that Ritter is not doubt the kicker of the future. He goes to the high school that I graduated from, and this guy kicked a 58 yarder IN A GAME this season. Also he only had one kickoff all season that did not go for a touchback. He played tight end and defensive end as well, he is a big guy with an extremely powerful leg, and with a college weight program will be an extremely valuable guy
February 4, 2009 at 12:04 pm |
It’s rockin’. I’ve set up operations in in the media relations work room.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 12:04 pm |
No big let downs so far that I know of?
February 4, 2009 at 12:05 pm |
PA in the “Situation Room”
February 4, 2009 at 12:09 pm |
Alex Williams to Oklahoma signed LOI
February 4, 2009 at 12:10 pm |
Looks like some Florida boys will be going to Oxford to play football this Fall. One right from Bobby Bowden’s back door.
February 4, 2009 at 12:12 pm |
Marlon Brown is waiting on word from AK if he can play BB at OM he will come.
February 4, 2009 at 12:14 pm |
Nutt told him as long as he could keep his grades up, he was cool with it.
February 4, 2009 at 12:14 pm |
Williams didn’t even have OU on his list. Big surprise there then.
February 4, 2009 at 12:15 pm |
With knee injuries galorie, I don’t think AK will pass up on an athlete of Marlon Brown’s status. He would be ingnorant if he did. How does that work, 2 sport guys just chew up 1 scholly.
February 4, 2009 at 12:17 pm |
m4 google his name and it will take you to the rivals site that says he signed. Randle is really considering OM, OK, LSU, and Bama. HAs not made his mind up yet. Had a good talk with Nutt in the past couple of weeks but no visit so we may be out.
February 4, 2009 at 12:17 pm |
OM is becoming Fla. north. Urban Meyer said a couple of years ago. O’s last year that they had never recruited an athlete from Miss. Houston Nutt has always recruited all over the place.
February 4, 2009 at 12:19 pm |
No paper work received yet on RB Tim Simon and S Jamar Hornsby.
Jessie Grandy, ATH, from Pine Bluff, along with Williams, was another kid who could sign today.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 12:20 pm |
USC looks like the widowmaker to me. Wow impressive class so far and LSwho. Can’t understand why anyone would go to LSwho guess I’m biased though.
February 4, 2009 at 12:21 pm |
Rivals’ Neal says Grandy signed with Rebels.
February 4, 2009 at 12:21 pm |
That’s good to here about Ritter, I’m not doubting the guy. I went to a game at JA in the mid 90’s and Tom Luke was one of the coach’s Is he still there?
February 4, 2009 at 12:21 pm |
Williams at Ok PA
February 4, 2009 at 12:22 pm |
Lots of good players in Florida. No way the Big 3 can sign them all. But with the rise of South Florida there’s more competition for the out-of-state schools that swoop in.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 12:24 pm |
Jamar Hornsby, Tim Simon, and Montez Phillips have officially signed (from Rivals)
February 4, 2009 at 12:24 pm |
Grandy is Shibest’s recruit and I think he’ll sign. It was down to two yesterday and we were leading
February 4, 2009 at 12:26 pm |
ESPNU is way behind on the tube
February 4, 2009 at 12:26 pm |
Paper work in for 5 signee: Montez Phillips, Craig Drummond, TIm Simon, Jamar Hornsby, Zacheeus Mason.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 12:27 pm |
Awesome
February 4, 2009 at 12:27 pm |
Z Mason is an awesome DE
February 4, 2009 at 12:28 pm |
Neal McCready was reporting earlier some possible wavering from Simon, but I guess that got worked out. Neal also said Marlon Brown to Ohio State, which would really run counter to the info that was leaked for so long, that being close to home was important.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 12:28 pm |
Wev’e moved up to 19th on the recruiting class ranking.
February 4, 2009 at 12:30 pm |
We got a few more surprizes coming….
February 4, 2009 at 12:30 pm |
I feel as good as I did at the end of the season and on Jan. 2nd. This is probably on paper the best recruiting class the Rebels have had since the Vaught days when they signed whoever they wanted in the state of Mississippi….some…just to keep other schools from getting them.
February 4, 2009 at 12:31 pm |
I’m hearing Brown to OM. AK says he’ll let him play BB
February 4, 2009 at 12:33 pm |
If Brown goes to OSU, talk about being onthe NCAA watch list.
February 4, 2009 at 12:33 pm |
redstick,
He was still there until about 2 or 3 years ago when he went somewhere in Tennessee
February 4, 2009 at 12:34 pm |
Any word on Ray Cotton yet? I thought he was supposed to announce this morning at 10
February 4, 2009 at 12:34 pm |
I don’t know all about Nutt’s Arkansas recruiting history, but that was a knock on him by the fan base, one of many, as he was leaving the state.
I do know this staff is very excited about this class and considers it one of the bests they’ve put together.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 12:37 pm |
I’m still wondering. How many guys have the Rebs signed and how many greyshirts? Everytime I look at the rankings the Rebs move up this is fun. The SEC is strong today as usual. The best want to play in the SEC.
February 4, 2009 at 12:37 pm |
I think its a great class, PA. Randle IMHO is over-rated as far as college ball goes. A great HS player but I don’t know if he’s gonna be that great in college because as you know the defense is much more intense.
February 4, 2009 at 12:38 pm |
According to UM web site….33 have sent in papers. This does not include Massie. He and possibly Cotton would run the list to 35. Brown would make it 36. And don’t forget….Clayton Moore…who is probably going to walk on.
February 4, 2009 at 12:39 pm |
Gentlemen,
It sure is nice to see Ole Miss in the loop. These last few months have been special and glad to see it continue. PA, always appreciate the insight. VA Reb, JB, Creb, myself and others are not in town but we always appreciate all and anything Ole Miss. Keep it up.
February 4, 2009 at 12:40 pm |
Redstick, I’m sure there will be plenty of greyshirts, but the numbers will work themselves out.
Colorado, this does look like a great class on paper. Looks like they’ve done a good job of meeting needs and have re-stocked in some areas. Got some OL talent, more on the DL, playmakers at safety and WR.
Very diverse group. Hope all the grades are in order.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 12:40 pm |
Jeff I think that means we have mission accomplished as far as I’m concerned.
February 4, 2009 at 12:42 pm |
And some of these other schools have to worry about the grades as well, thats just par for the course, I think. Would have liked to seen A. Williams. What about Tig?
February 4, 2009 at 12:42 pm |
got em now coach em up NUTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 4, 2009 at 12:43 pm |
Sounds like the Rebels have heard from everybody they’re going to get today except Cotton and Brown and Grandy if they want to come.
Am I missing anybody?
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 12:43 pm |
Are there any academic issues? What about Tig? Seems like an awful high number. There has to be some question marks.
February 4, 2009 at 12:43 pm |
heard that Alex Williams is committed to Ole Miss, but has not sent in LOI yet. Jesse Grandy has sent in his LOI to Ole Miss
February 4, 2009 at 12:44 pm |
Also, PA, ask someone there if they know anything on Oku. He has officially decommited from Tenn.
February 4, 2009 at 12:44 pm |
Colorado, I’ve heard Tig is coming, but the paper work isn’t here yet. It also is not here on Massie.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 12:44 pm |
Tig also has signed, his LOI has been received
February 4, 2009 at 12:45 pm |
excuse me, I dont think Tig’s paperwork is here yet, but he officially committed
February 4, 2009 at 12:45 pm |
Any chance we may jump ahead of State with Tig and Massie?
February 4, 2009 at 12:45 pm |
Paper work is in on two more: RB Stephen Houston and ATH Jesse Grandy.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 12:45 pm |
Who said Houston Nutt can’t recruit? I call it jealousy! Hotty Toddy!
February 4, 2009 at 12:46 pm |
right now in scout we are 19 and state is 18.
In rivals we are 18 and state is 22
February 4, 2009 at 12:46 pm |
Keep bringing on the Christmas presents… thanks 2011
February 4, 2009 at 12:46 pm |
Colorado, are you sure about Alex Williams, the DE from Tallahasee? OK got an Alex Williams from New Orleans a couple of years ago.
February 4, 2009 at 12:47 pm |
flareb: I second that. PA keep us up to date with Ole Miss Sports and I do appreciate it.
February 4, 2009 at 12:47 pm |
Houston is going to be a grey shirt.
February 4, 2009 at 12:48 pm |
OMG, I never though Nutt and Co. would pull this big of a signing class off, especially after the Ark faithful said he could’nt recruit. Kudos HDN and especially Chris who put it all together.
February 4, 2009 at 12:49 pm |
Its all that praying L2’s been doin’
February 4, 2009 at 12:50 pm |
I believe the hiring of Coach Nutt was a great thing and we are starting to see more and more of his accomplishments.
February 4, 2009 at 12:51 pm |
Tig’s paper work has not been announced if it’s been received. The process here goes from the football office, to media relations, to the south end zone where the signing day party is going on.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 12:52 pm |
yea no dobt jb… hes been known to coach up all the 2 and 3 star players and make them great athelets in the sec… plus all these big name big time recruits.. cant wait till april to see some of them in action and then again the end of august…… HOTTY TOTTY
February 4, 2009 at 12:52 pm |
I have an Uncle from Conway, Ark and he said when we got Nutt, “he’s inconsistant and he can’t recruit. OM want be happy with him because he’s got some marbles loose.” I can’t wait to call him tonight. Ark sure isn’t making any big waves are they?
February 4, 2009 at 12:54 pm |
Nutt has a dynamic personality and a nack for trustabilty if that is a word his players and all of his co workers love him and want to please him .
February 4, 2009 at 12:54 pm |
Guys, I’m going to be out of pocket for a few minutes to run a quick errand and grab some lunch.
Nutt’s press conference is at 2. Word on Brown should come down during the presser, Cotton shortly before.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 12:55 pm |
If we get those two I’m going to Disney World…..
February 4, 2009 at 12:58 pm |
What’s the word on Cotton?
February 4, 2009 at 1:00 pm |
I quite listening to Hog fans’ opinions of Nutt a long time ago. All those Arkansas people saying Nutt couldn’t recruit also said:
- Nutt’s teams hardly ever pass and the offense will be boring.
- if we got to a bowl game, Nutt will lose it.
February 4, 2009 at 1:01 pm |
Is the nutt conference on tv?
February 4, 2009 at 1:01 pm |
Aubrey Phillips to FSU. Brown to OSU according to a Knoxville Radio Station I got through the internet
February 4, 2009 at 1:02 pm |
Hey PA -
I’m gonna be right next door to you in the Rebel Sports Marketing office after class today. I’m an intern in the sports marketing department. Mind if I come by and say hello? What all is going on with the signing day party?
February 4, 2009 at 1:02 pm |
Colorado, I noticed you said Ark wasn’t making any big waves. They have a higher ranked class than we do. Don’t bash their recruiting class when it’s better than the one we have.
February 4, 2009 at 1:03 pm |
How did all the Ms schools lose out on Phillips to FSU?
February 4, 2009 at 1:04 pm |
Brown is out guys, hate to bust y’alls bubbles, but Cotton should be a lock for us. This could be a top 15 class by the time all is said and done…
February 4, 2009 at 1:04 pm |
RB, I asked a question, are they making any big waves? Ding
February 4, 2009 at 1:06 pm |
Thats what this ? means, its a question. I haven’t been following Ark.
February 4, 2009 at 1:10 pm |
I figured you were trying to be your typical sarcastic arrogant self. My apologies. But yes, I believe we’re 5th in the west and State is 6th. LSU, Bama, Auburn, Arkansas, OM, MSU is how it’s shaping up now I believe rankings wise.
February 4, 2009 at 1:12 pm |
Ark is 3.3 and OM is 3.09 not a big difference and it will probably change by the end of the day.
February 4, 2009 at 1:14 pm |
Especially if we get Tig, Cotton, Massie, and maybe Brown. Looks pretty good to me.
February 4, 2009 at 1:14 pm |
That all depends on which ranking site you are veiwing.
February 4, 2009 at 1:14 pm |
jr85 what are you seeing?
February 4, 2009 at 1:16 pm |
Scout.com has Ark behind us as of 1pm est
February 4, 2009 at 1:16 pm |
Massie is official…
February 4, 2009 at 1:17 pm |
Scout to me is more reliable. Rivals is a little on the political side if you ask me.
February 4, 2009 at 1:17 pm |
LOI is in for Massie according to Ole Miss website
February 4, 2009 at 1:17 pm |
Got Massie…need Cotton and Brown.
February 4, 2009 at 1:18 pm |
Also shows all the signed LOI and updates on Brown and Cotton.
February 4, 2009 at 1:18 pm |
what does it say?
February 4, 2009 at 1:18 pm |
Mobilereb,
Are you going to see the Rebs in the South Alabama tourney in a couple of weeks?
February 4, 2009 at 1:18 pm |
Hey Jeff Jolly – don’t know about you, but I’ve got several Bama fans around me who are in shock about Massie. They thought he was a lock for them.
February 4, 2009 at 1:19 pm |
I’m a little in shock myself….but it’s a good shock.
February 4, 2009 at 1:20 pm |
I have two here with me they are down about it bubble busted and i love it ha ha ha could not happen to a better bunch.
February 4, 2009 at 1:21 pm |
PA, hope you do a follow up on Tillman, expect the charges to be dropped in a day or 2.
February 4, 2009 at 1:21 pm |
LOL ackerman. jr whats the deal on brown and cotton according to what I see no change
February 4, 2009 at 1:24 pm |
JJ – I’ll have to see what the family has going on that day. It would be fun though.

February 4, 2009 at 1:29 pm |
Mobilereb,
It’s a 3 day round robin tourney.
February 4, 2009 at 1:30 pm |
OM could end up third in the west behind Lsu and bamer
February 4, 2009 at 1:30 pm |
not bad company to be in
February 4, 2009 at 1:31 pm |
OSU listing a Corey Brown with LOI but nothing on Marlon on the OSU site.
February 4, 2009 at 1:38 pm |
Memphis Commercial Appeal site says Marlon Brown will announce at 2:45 today
February 4, 2009 at 1:41 pm |
Anybody got an update on Raymond Cotton or Marlon Brown….waiting for the icing on the cake…
February 4, 2009 at 1:49 pm |
No updates that I can find.
February 4, 2009 at 1:54 pm |
What happen to Brown, Colorado? I thought you had him talking to AK and the deal was done? As my 2 year old says, “Whathahah happen?”
February 4, 2009 at 1:55 pm |
PA must be up rubbing elbows with the signing party in the south endzone. Can’t blame him, wish I was there. I see nothing on Cotton or Brown either. I know a call was made to AK earlier to see if Brown could play BB.
February 4, 2009 at 1:55 pm |
Colorado has been silent for a while m4rebs…..he must be working on the deal behind closed doors.
February 4, 2009 at 1:57 pm |
I don’t know about a deal, I just know a call was made to ask if he could play BB. AK said sure if he can keep his grades, same for Nutt.
February 4, 2009 at 1:57 pm |
Colorado,
When are you moving to Ocean Springs? Waiting on you to come over to Moss Point for lunch one day….
February 4, 2009 at 1:57 pm |
CR
it’s worked so far!!
And I’m still praying
February 4, 2009 at 1:58 pm |
I wouldn’t be suprised if HDN was saving these 2 for the presser.
February 4, 2009 at 1:58 pm |
I’ll leave the deals to Pat Dye, if you know what I mean.
February 4, 2009 at 1:58 pm |
What hahahahappen?????
February 4, 2009 at 2:00 pm |
me too L2. Jeff I think my plans may have changed. I might not be coming after all, we have some contract issues that must be cleared up before I can go. Also, waiting to see if my cousins house will be ready for us. He’s still fighting the insurance company over the storm.
February 4, 2009 at 2:01 pm |
jr85, you could very well be right.
February 4, 2009 at 2:03 pm |
Tig has sent in his paperwork
February 4, 2009 at 2:03 pm |
I am supposed to be there Monday if I’m going. We’ve been working hard to get some things done but its not moving at the pace I would like.
February 4, 2009 at 2:03 pm |
Rivals now lists cotton as Ole Miss
February 4, 2009 at 2:09 pm |
Tig has sent in the paperwork, and Cotton has reported that he will sign….He just committed on rivals and it’s only a matter of time before the paperwork gets in….wow guys…
February 4, 2009 at 2:09 pm |
Cotton on board
February 4, 2009 at 2:09 pm |
Marlon Brown or no Marlon Brown, this class is awesome…Not only is it filled with star power, it fills the gaps in our team…This is unbelievable news
February 4, 2009 at 2:10 pm |
What a day…..seems Marlon Brown is the only missing piece.
February 4, 2009 at 2:11 pm |
Nick Saban is notorious when it comes to signing a bunch and the numbers seem to work themselves out. Damn good job Rebels one hell of a recruiting class. ESPNU just said the Rebels have done an outstanding job today even saying they “ran the table”. They are throwing bouquets at the Rebels saying they are out recruiting State overall. We know State got the in state recruits. They also just reported Cotton to OM.
February 4, 2009 at 2:12 pm |
Cotton comitted to OM on Rivls, but stated he has not signed.
February 4, 2009 at 2:17 pm |
That’s a big change from what they were saying about an hour ago. They talked to Mullen for about 5 minutes on ESPNU, and showed our logo for 12 seconds in a follow-up piece. Good to see they’ve change their tune. State has done well, don’t loose sight of that, because they really needed to run the table in the state of Miss, but Nutt knew he would be crucified if he didn’t counter with some big time guys from elsewhere. I don’t have a problem with the way this worked out, with or without Brown. From the pulse of this blog, I don’t think you guys feel like we got raked over the coals either. So who wins and who loses? I’d say both Miss. schools did pretty darn good. And even if we got 2 of Bama’s targets, they aren’t hurting, I guarantee you.
February 4, 2009 at 2:18 pm |
Raymond Cotton
(Meade Senior HS)
Ft Meade, MD 6-4/220 Committed to Mississippi
Good news….
February 4, 2009 at 2:20 pm |
Take care of our house to hell with ala and state we have enough business to keep us busy let Nutt coach em up!!!!!!
February 4, 2009 at 2:23 pm |
I really don’t think Brown has decided 100% yet.
February 4, 2009 at 2:26 pm |
Memphis am radio station just had a member of Browns family on(I believe granny) and she said its between OM and OSU. She said she really wants him to stay close to home. We may not be out yet.
February 4, 2009 at 2:27 pm |
Unfortunately, you must keep your eye on the competition, Mr. Ackermanrebelcanimakemyidanylonger. Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer, right JB?
February 4, 2009 at 2:27 pm |
bcbc
February 4, 2009 at 2:28 pm |
This class is better than any one of O’s… Not even in the same ballpark…
February 4, 2009 at 2:30 pm |
Cotton’s LOI in….
February 4, 2009 at 2:32 pm |
hmmm m4rebs very creative
February 4, 2009 at 2:33 pm |
On ESPN.com:
“2:20 p.m.: Another big get for Ole Miss; dual-threat signal-caller Raymond Cotton has picked the Rebels, according to InsideTheGrove.com. Cotton is a physically impressive QB with great athleticism, but he’ll need some work on his mechanics and overall passing skills at Ole Miss. ESPNU wideout Pat Patterson should help in that transition; Patterson’s a major get for the Rebels. With this news, Ole Miss is one of today’s big winners.”
February 4, 2009 at 2:33 pm |
Almost poetic…
February 4, 2009 at 2:35 pm |
Back on the web for a bit. Sounds like paper work is in on Massie, Tig and Cotton.
Waiting word on Brown.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 2:35 pm |
Just kidding Ackerman. I’m assuming you are from Ackerman, but being from Alabama, I don’t know where it is……
February 4, 2009 at 2:38 pm |
Anyone know what time Brown is going to decide?
February 4, 2009 at 2:40 pm |
PA -
I’m going to be right across the hall from you in the Rebel Sports Marketing department, and then head to the press conference. I am a sports marketing intern/student here at Ole Miss. I would like to have the opportunity to meet you if possible…cool?
February 4, 2009 at 2:41 pm |
AGR, I hated to see that on Tillman. Hope it’s not true and that there’s more to the story than has surfaced to this point.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 2:41 pm |
ackerman is 20 miles west of the metropolis of starkville,ms ha dont blink or you will miss it.
February 4, 2009 at 2:41 pm |
PA, how’s the atmosphere\crowd over there?
February 4, 2009 at 2:42 pm |
Man, I bet it’s as tough to be a Rebel in Ackerman as it is to be a Rebel in Tuscaloosa and Baton Rouge. Then again, maybe not…..
February 4, 2009 at 2:44 pm |
I know it is tough in Baton Rouge. My 1998 Red Ford Explorer had the kind words of an LSU fan engraved in the side of it. It happened at the Albertson’s on College Drive, the Monday after the LSU-Ole Miss basketball game in 2002. Couldn’t drive that one to Parkview Baptist on Sunday.
February 4, 2009 at 2:46 pm |
not nearly so bad this year aka 45 to 0 and sat bb helps a whole lot lol
February 4, 2009 at 2:47 pm |
I don’t know if these schools are ranked in order of interest, but ESPN has:
Ole Miss
Ohio State
Georgia
Tennessee
Florida
February 4, 2009 at 2:48 pm |
There are 200+ posts in this thread and very little about any other school. If you check other sites there seems to be a lot of concern about Ole Miss. I did learn from the MSU blog with the Journal that Patterson isn’t near as good as we think.
February 4, 2009 at 2:48 pm |
For Marlon Brown by the way.
February 4, 2009 at 2:48 pm |
There is a big rebel in tuscaloosa from ackerman do you know a jimbo???
February 4, 2009 at 2:48 pm |
Amsteffe, bring it on man. Glad to meet you.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 2:51 pm |
CR, for what it’s worth on Patterson, Gene Phelps, our former sports editor, who’s now covering preps and jucos in his golden years, says Patterson is the best high school receiver he’s seen … ever. Not surprising that his stock drops today on a State blog, is it? Glad you’re checking in on Brad’s blog.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 2:52 pm |
Don’t know what Logan Clair was doing here in the presser, but he obviously was out of place. He’s a mid-year OL signee already in school. Mike Markuson just hustled him out pretty quick.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 2:52 pm |
No, I don’t know jimbo in Tuscaloosa. There are more over here than I know, that’s for sure. I feel like I’m the only one, but I hear there are some guys over here that have parties and get togethers. I just must not be in the “right” places or know the “right” people.
February 4, 2009 at 2:53 pm |
Patterson is for real. He’s got the best hands I’ve seen. Route running is solid, not great. Most of Noxubee’s playbook consisted of just throwing the ball up and letting him go get it. If you want to see highlights of him without paying rivals or scout, go to ESPN’s profile page of him and watch for yourself.
February 4, 2009 at 2:55 pm |
What about grades, Beef. His coach tells me he’ll make it. You hearing anything on that?
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 2:56 pm |
Ole Miss up to No. 16 in the Rivals team rankings, passing State at No. 24.
– PA
February 4, 2009 at 2:56 pm |
I KNOW HE DOES I HAVE BEEN TO HIS HOUSE WHEN WE PLAY BAMMER OVER THERE
February 4, 2009 at 2:57 pm |
PA –
You going back to media relations offices after the Nutt press conference?
If so, I’ll holler at you then.
February 4, 2009 at 2:59 pm |
That’s primarily because we have 35 guys on the board, PA. If you go by points….but if you go by average stars, we aren’t as high, but then again, with 35, we are diluting the star power too. As I already posted, I am very pleased with this class. Wouldn’t want to have to figure out what to do with 10 or 11, but maybe that’ll work out. Pleae let us know what Nutt says about how he plans to trim to the 25 PA. I’m sure you won’t have to ask, it’ll be one of the top questions of the day.
February 4, 2009 at 3:01 pm |
I think he’ll make it. He has like a 16 on his ACT and that was his first try. Should be able to get to 18 on it. The actual core work shouldn’t be that big of an issue either. I think he’s kinda like DeAndre Brown in the sense that he should be able to squeak in.
And I know I mentioned ESPN just a sec ago. Most of the big time recruits have some type of highlight tapes up in their profiles and they’re free. I know Cotton had a couple and Patterson had his. Pretty cool to check them out.
February 4, 2009 at 3:01 pm |
It’d be craziness if somehow Dre Kirkpatrick chose Ole Miss. I don’t know the relations between him and OM, but I have a strange feeling…
February 4, 2009 at 3:07 pm |
Who is Dre Kirkpatrick Jake?
Anybody heard where Oku, the Tennessee recruit ended up?
February 4, 2009 at 3:07 pm |
I saw Patterson in the state championship game. He played nearly every position on the field except lineman. He kicked, played running back, quarterback, defensive back and receiver.
My brother, an MSU fan, thought he was the second coming as long as he was committed to MSU.
I can’t believe he has gotten worse since he decommitted to State.
I’ll take him any day.
February 4, 2009 at 3:07 pm |
Kirkpatrick to Bama. Strange feeling didn’t work out.
February 4, 2009 at 3:08 pm |
He chose Bammer. He is the #1 CB in the nation, m4.
February 4, 2009 at 3:10 pm |
We can’t get everyone… ha…
February 4, 2009 at 3:10 pm |
what’s going on with marlon brown?
February 4, 2009 at 3:11 pm |
I’ve heard Pat was an on the fencer. Good possibility he goes JUCO first. It would be ashame for the kid not to play 4 years of D1 ball. I don’t see how these kids get to the point where they have to do major work to get into school. Shouldn’t they know well in advance?
February 4, 2009 at 3:13 pm |
I think Oku is going to Auburn or Syracuse.
February 4, 2009 at 3:14 pm |
Yeah Farley, I agree. Pat had an idea that he was going to be a big time recruit during his sophomore season. You have to put some of it on the recruits, but I actually put a lot of this on the coaches. You gotta be a role model to the player and guide him to doing the right things to get ready. Too many coaches care about the present and getting their wins instead of caring about a kids future. I’m confident that he’ll qualify though.
February 4, 2009 at 3:15 pm |
Thanks Brian & Jake. I just found the Kirkpatrick cat. See Bammers, you guys are going to be ok, even if little old Ole Miss “cheats” to get a couple of “your” guys.
February 4, 2009 at 3:15 pm |
What’s up with Tillman I missed it? Who cares if Rebs are ahead of Miss State. Both have had an outstanding recruiting class’s. If u are top 25 u are gettign it done. Dre Kirkpatrick is on ESPNU and is very entertaining. He committed to Alabama. Look I live in Baton Rouge and they still love Saban. This guy is good but I would rather have Nutt any day. Saban is a difficult person but a good coach. Nutt is a good coach and a likable person as is Les Miles. It’s weird here because I’m from Miss. and LSU has no rival so I have fun with them here. They still think Saban walks on waster here though. Miles will never get the respect he deserves; even after a national championship.
February 4, 2009 at 3:16 pm |
I’m waiting on 2:45 pm.
February 4, 2009 at 3:18 pm |
Somebody tell Brown it’s always best to listen to grandma & get down here & play!!
February 4, 2009 at 3:22 pm |
PA,
I missed whatever happened on Tillman. What did I miss?
February 4, 2009 at 3:23 pm |
This class looks better every minute!
February 4, 2009 at 3:26 pm |
What’s up w/ the press conference w/ Nutt
February 4, 2009 at 3:26 pm |
Barksdale committed. I don’t know if I’m late on that, but Rivals is the first place I saw his name on the Commit List.
February 4, 2009 at 3:28 pm |
I bet Demond Washington is thinking “what have I done” b/c from the looks of things he could have maybe started at CB this year
February 4, 2009 at 3:30 pm |
Yeah Jake, a little late on that one but it’s all good. Big pickup with him. He probably did more recruiting on Massie than Nutt and Markuson did which was a big help.
February 4, 2009 at 3:30 pm |
anybody…..we need an update about M.Brown, PLEASE!
February 4, 2009 at 3:31 pm |
According to Bammers, that’s cheating. You can’t have a guy that is going somewhere, tell another guy that he should go there, unless it’s Tuscalooa. The arrogance….nauseating.
February 4, 2009 at 3:33 pm |
haha yeah. I guess when a recruit goes into the bleachers to catch a game and there are fans telling him to go to that school, that’s cheating also.
February 4, 2009 at 3:34 pm |
Unless you are in Tuscaloosa, beef. Get with it man.
February 4, 2009 at 3:36 pm |
Ah, 10 minutes. I hope Grandma got her message through to Brown.
February 4, 2009 at 3:36 pm |
Ah ok, I get it now. Thanks for the recruiting lesson.
February 4, 2009 at 3:41 pm |
I had a Bammer say to me this morning after we signed Patterson, “Looks like Ole Miss has the checkbook out again.” I asked him why he thought so, he said “Because it’s Ole Miss, you guys don’t get our recruiting targets……without money.”
Nice. Real nice. And we wonder why Farley hates Alabama so much.
February 4, 2009 at 3:42 pm |
rivals reports ferrell and a. williams to OM. that makes 38 commits. WOW!
February 4, 2009 at 3:44 pm |
With 25 scholarships, why would these kids sign? That’s not a bash either. I thought playing time was the major factor for most kids.
February 4, 2009 at 3:45 pm |
One of Bama’s boards seemed to have a lot of concern over how many of our signees had grade problems. A WWII pilot told me once “You know you are over the target when you start getting a lot of flack.” After this class – watch out.
February 4, 2009 at 3:46 pm |
Ferrell and Williams have signed letter of intent according to UM web site.
February 4, 2009 at 3:47 pm |
no way.
February 4, 2009 at 3:47 pm |
Georgia
February 4, 2009 at 3:48 pm |
Way
February 4, 2009 at 3:49 pm |
haha I didn’t see that coming. I’m still really excited about the class this year though.
February 4, 2009 at 3:50 pm |
Marlon Walls to Georgia. . . espn.com
February 4, 2009 at 3:51 pm |
brown to georgia?
February 4, 2009 at 3:51 pm |
Brown to UGA????
February 4, 2009 at 3:51 pm |
What did you not see coming Jake?
February 4, 2009 at 3:52 pm |
Brown going to Georgia. I heard it was down to us and Ohio State.
February 4, 2009 at 3:53 pm |
redstick, I was thru BR and couple weeks back and they have a big billboard about killing Saban or something like Satan is coming back home. Do you knwo the one I’m talking about?
February 4, 2009 at 3:54 pm |
Well, that just about raps it up, right? Brown was really the only other one that was hanging out there. I can’t believe we got Williams and Ferrell. I thought somebody said Williams went to OU…….
February 4, 2009 at 3:55 pm |
It was on rivals m4.
February 4, 2009 at 3:56 pm |
my bad m4, just looked back and it was another alex williams from New Orleans that went to OK
February 4, 2009 at 3:57 pm |
I had just googled his name and thats what came up.
February 4, 2009 at 3:59 pm |
Can’t wait to see if these cowboys can ride.
February 4, 2009 at 4:01 pm |
Bama folks don’t need to say anyone is paying anyone. That goes for Auburn and Lswho to. Pat Dye has cut more deals than a used car salesman. I think once Tubbs kids finish school he’s gonna let that cat out of the bag.

He did not want to compete with ja mez and patterson so let him go if he dont think he could compete with them as Nutt says we are one big family one heartbeat he wants to be the showboat.
February 4, 2009 at 4:03 pm |
The Tillman referenced above is Eric Tillman, an Ole Miss guy and long-time CFL executive. He was arrested and charged with sexault assault of a minor. He’s the GM in Saskatchewan. Hired Kent Austin there.

He was one reciever I thought that could come in and play. I guess he got what he needed at his Sept visit to Georgia.
February 4, 2009 at 4:04 pm |
I agree AR, His loss.
February 4, 2009 at 4:05 pm |
Forgot it was you that said it Colorado. That is a pretty common name these days anyway….Williams. I thought it was a little odd that he didn’t have them listed, and then went with OU, but you never know.
Really enjoyed it this year guys. I think we posted more today than when we fired O, and then again when we hired Nutt. Glad I already bought my season tix, too. They should be a hot item this year. Just hope we can live up to the HYPE!!!! Aim high though, right ole JB!!!
February 4, 2009 at 4:05 pm |
Is he coming on staff to OM or anything like that?
February 4, 2009 at 4:06 pm |
Guys and Gals, not surprisingly, the staff thinks this is the best class they’ve put together.
Hard to argue.
As far as grayshirts and grades and whatnot, Nutt said he checked with compliance AD David Wells to make sure there was no limit on how many he could sign. Said he would have signed 80 if he could have. Just wanted to establish relationship with some guys who will go the juco route.
I’ll check back on this thread later, but for the immediate future I’ll be writing for the print edition and hoping to get finished in time for basketball.

Thanks PA, its been fun all day. Look forward to the game thread tonight. Someone please post a final.
farley, is that yahoo thing available again? I wish you’d post the link if so, thanks.
February 4, 2009 at 4:10 pm |
Colorado, the Yahoo link is only good when the game is on Raycom Sports. They have a deal with Yahoo, but it isn’t. The only follks going to be watching the bball game tonight will be in the Pad.
Thanks for the coverage PA.
February 4, 2009 at 4:11 pm |
Enjoyed it guys, good recruiting class. Looking forward to next season.
February 4, 2009 at 4:17 pm |
Thanks to all of you guys today. Virginia can sleep much better tonight knowing that Ole Miss had a great signing day!! I guess I’ll have to get some work done tomorrow….spent most of the day on this page!
February 4, 2009 at 4:21 pm |
The State folks are torn up about Patterson. Now saying he’s no good and such. The kid has hands with super glue on them and he’ll go up and catch anything within a mile radius of him. You know you got em’ when they start hating a player before he ever plays a game in Div. I. Great signing class.
February 4, 2009 at 4:28 pm |
Haven’t heard anybody saying that Creb.
February 4, 2009 at 4:29 pm |
Me either CReb. I’ve commented on how dumb he sounded at the press conference. So did Thames who signed with State. Pat looked like he was coloring on his NLI.
February 4, 2009 at 4:30 pm |
Great job PA!
February 4, 2009 at 4:31 pm |
Good class for you guys. Both schools really racked up. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.
February 4, 2009 at 4:33 pm |
I’m sure you can find somebody to criticize him if you dig hard enough. I’ve heard nothing but good things. All the state folks I’ve talked to are thrilled with our recruiting class.
February 4, 2009 at 4:41 pm |
We Can! We Can!!!AIM HIGH!!!!Just hope we can live up to the HYPE!!!! Aim high though, right ole JB!!! Right M4
Now tell this ole Reb fan of 60 years what kind of day that Ole Miss had in this enlistment of recruits today. Anyone and all, please.
Don’t pay an attention to the Tillman thing. Some of the Miss. Stater just like to bring up stuff against Ole Miss, simply because they are a jealous bunch and can’t stand it that the Ole Miss Rebels in football is their superiors.
PA: A great job that you put out here for us today. Keep up the good work. Right now down here in the Sunshine State is has been a very cold day.
February 4, 2009 at 4:44 pm |
I wonder if the M. Brown to Georgia means Bobby Knight will not be their new HC.
February 4, 2009 at 4:48 pm |
Yup JB that’s it. We love to start rumors that become national news about OM folks. Pretty sure Jackie is behind the Jihad and child molesting.
February 4, 2009 at 4:50 pm |
I feel like helping out. Here’s a link to Ole Miss Commitment List:

February 4, 2009 at 4:59 pm |
Thanks Jake. Farley thought I saw , on Fox news, the police chasing you last week in a U-Haul truck.
February 4, 2009 at 5:07 pm |
Rumor started by some old bitter guy in Florida. No chance of the Uhaul here. I’m gonna stay here and start rumors because I’m jealous. Either that or just to annoy the carp outta you. And you’ve used that joke about 4 times now JB. I know old age plays tricks on the mind.
February 4, 2009 at 5:08 pm |
Oh wait, crap not carp. The JB spelling has caught up to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 4, 2009 at 5:21 pm |
farley, good class for both teams. I was reading BL’s blog and some were saying he wouldn’t be any good with double coverage and so on. I think State did really well. Hope yall beat everybody but us next year. It would be nice for the Egg bowl to mean who goes to the SEC Champ. game. I don’t think the State folks expected OM to jump so far ahead of them in the class. Looks like OM is going nation wide.
February 4, 2009 at 5:23 pm |
JB, that joke gets better everytime you tell it.
February 4, 2009 at 5:26 pm |
Only if at least one other person saw this clown in the U-haul. I’m sure he was a character if JB is giging farley with it. Can you describe him JB?
February 4, 2009 at 5:27 pm |
Someone said he was wearing a Ms State cap with overalls and no shoes.
February 4, 2009 at 5:31 pm |
That could be most anybody from MSU i heard that to establish a freshman at MSU look for a new clean crisp pair of overhauls.
February 4, 2009 at 5:33 pm |
Wasn’t me then. Only my Alabama family wear the overalls. As short as I am, I would look like an Oompa Loompa in overalls.
February 4, 2009 at 5:34 pm |
You live in Ackerman buddy. Hick jokes are not allowed from people in Ackerman.
February 4, 2009 at 5:38 pm |
How is ole miss going to give out 38 scholarships?
February 4, 2009 at 5:40 pm |
In all seriousness, great class for you guys. I’m happy we kept most of the talent in state this year. Both schools can really be proud of what they did today.
February 4, 2009 at 5:40 pm |
You live in Ackerman. LMAO!!!
February 4, 2009 at 5:41 pm |
Great day guys. I can stop praying now – o wait – there is so much more to pray about
A whole lot of fun today – now let’s coach em up!!
February 4, 2009 at 5:43 pm |
Crap dont say that we have two new stop signs!!!
February 4, 2009 at 5:46 pm |
Well played Ackerman. It’s all in jest. Except for JB. Am staying in Oxford just to start rumors about OM, Nutt, CReb and JB. Nothing else to do in this hick town. Rimshot!
February 4, 2009 at 5:50 pm |
Ha you guys have a good night . Very successful day for both schools good luck till the Egg Bowl off to do honey doos .
February 4, 2009 at 5:54 pm |
Folks, I’ve got the print edition coverage wrapped up. It focuses on Bobby Massie, and I’ll link to it tomorrow.
Thanks to you all for participating today and making this the most read thread in this blog’s history on this, the busiest day in this blog’s history.
With a little while still to go, today’s hits have surpassed the previous best, which was the day that Nutt was hired.
We’re about to pass 16,000 for this 24-hour period.
I’ll post some signing day notes and leftovers tomorrow.
Check back later for the basketball in-game blog.

I am going to let that U-Haul rest for now. Just having a little fun out of Farley. The other night on Fox news, the police was in pursuit of a U-Haul truck on the run for some reason or another. As I watched, I thought of Farley in his hurry to get out of Oxford.
February 4, 2009 at 7:12 pm |
Thats correct about the billboard and Saban. They even buirned him in effighy. Thats the students the alumni and fans still have the utmost respcect for Nick. Believe me they are hanging over from Nick Saban. If you have heard his news conference you will see he is a jerk. But this guy commands respect. People love him for that, Have u heard Les Miles speak? He is hard to listen too but the guy is a really good coach. I think most coaches would love to have the LSU job including Nick Saban.
February 4, 2009 at 7:12 pm |
All love JB.

Rivals.com
Disappointing no more
OK, we were wrong.
After being tabbed as one of the disappointing teams by Rivals.com just a week ago after hovering in the 40s in the national rankings, Ole Miss closed as strong as any school in the nation. The Rebels received 10 commitments in the past four days and finished No. 17 in the nation.
The late commitments included four-star quarterback Raymond Cotton, four-star wide receiver Patrick Patterson and five-star offensive lineman Bobby Massie.
“I wanted to play for a coach that could help me become the best in the nation,” Cotton said Wednesday after picking the Rebels. “I’m going to come in and work hard to be prepared so when my number is called, I’ll be ready. I believe the SEC Championship Game and a berth in a BCS bowl game will become an annual event, and I am really excited and honored to be a part of that.”
Booya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 4, 2009 at 11:02 pm |
I didnt have much to say today, but I want to be counted as one of the faithful who was here. If you have a few free minutes go to the rivals sites and look at the drop down on the years that shows recruits. Just look back and compare stars and and speed to the 2009 class. UNBELIEVEABLE!! Whatever you do don’t forget……………….Brent Schaeffer was a five star QB. Patrick Willis, John and Peria Jerry were three stars.

Hotty Toddy. Great reading the blogs from yesterday. Wish there had been more instate signees but Coach Nutt covered that. Pardon my lack of current terminology but what is a grey shirt? How does the number of recruits work with the number of scholarships? I need to get back up to speed. Are any of these recruits being told they will sit out the freshman year as a redshirt?
You have to be from Mississippi to know where most towns are in the state. Before I55/I59/I20 you had to drive through them to get anywhere. Same goes for my present home in GA. My uncle retired after a career with Bank of Grenada, et al, living in Ackerman, Louisville and now Calhoun City. Maben is west of Starkville between Eupora on Hwy 82. The other towns are on Hwy 9.
