So, PA, first of all. happy birthday. also, what do you see is the number one problem with the baseball team, is it fielding, clutch hitting, sunday hitting, or none of the above?

  2. rebelnate Says:

    Happy birthday PA

If we make errors this Friday like last friday we will get crushed.

  3. rebel2011 Says:

or you can add consistency to that list

  4. djrebel Says:

2011, I think it’s a little of everything. I think they’re not a great defensive team but not terrible. Overbeck doesn’t make some plays that a third baseman needs to make but makes most of them. I think Smith is very athletic at first and will get better. Right now he needs to make better decisions.

Clutch hitting isn’t there enough either, but they can be streaky. Maybe they can get on a streak tonight.

  5. rebelfan38652 Says:

you should always be able to right yourname in roman numerals

  6. rebelnate Says:

Hey PA i got you some pillows and a clock radio. Got a good deal on them.

  7. djrebel Says:

Thanks. When I was a kid I was really impressed by the fact that the Super Bowl always had my age attached. I used to know a lot of worthless Super Bowl trivia but not so much now.

  8. djrebel Says:

No, I cannot accept or I would not be able to play football at Mississippi State.

  9. rebelnate Says:

The game tomorrow is on ESPNU if anyone gets that. It is 609 on Direct TV

  10. rebel2011 Says:

yeah, i sure hope so. the way our hitters have been playing since the south carolina series makes me think that they are starting to come around. we just cannot leave oportunities to score on the table. i am not at all worried about our pitching performance from last weekend, i think our staff will be fine, as i feel that we have the best staff in the SEC

  11. djrebel Says:

Thanks for posting. Comcast is supposedly working to get Fox Sports South over here. We need to check on that.

  12. rebelnate Says:

    Are you in Athens PA?

  13. djrebel Says:

2011, I tend to agree that the pitching was an isolated incident. Hope so.

  14. rebelfan38652 Says:

will we bat LSU now really?

  15. djrebel Says:

I am in West Tupelo. We cut back on travel during baseball season until tournament time.

  16. rebelnate Says:

We really need to take this series not only for SEC standing but on the national stage as well

  17. rebel2011 Says:

well i have espnu at home, but i am not at home this weekend with exams coming up next week. are you saying there is a chance that foxsports south or comcast might cover the game?

  18. djrebel Says:

It’s about getting into the SECs and the big dance. I think 4-5 over the last nine is pretty important to give you some breathing room going to Hoover.

  19. bigdraws Says:

The two biggest questions I have after last week is. How do you see Pomeranz responding to that outing last Saturday. And do you think the length of the season is catching up with the Rebels.

  20. djrebel Says:

No, not that they would cover this game but that Tupelo Comcast may get Fox Sports South for next season which would eliminate a lot of confusion and better serve the Comcast subscribers like me.

  21. djrebel Says:

Draws it will be interesting to see how Pomeranz will respond. I think he will respond OK, but I only say that because he has handled most other challenges this year. … I don’t think length of season is an issue. Everybody plays the same season.

  22. rebelnate Says:

Jordan Henry seems to be back to his old self again.

  23. rebel2011 Says:

i see pomeranz coming back with another solid outing. he is the most composed freshman pitcher i have ever seen. and possibly the most talented. this will be a big weekend for satterwhite to see if he can throw another game like he did against i think it was alabama, where he gave up only one run

  24. djrebel Says:

Not to be flippant on that Draws, I just don’t think that’s a big deal. It never entered my mind. I think injuries are coming into play at Ole Miss like that already had at State.

  25. rebelnate Says:

The shortstop from Georgia is a freak.

  26. rebel2011 Says:

oh i see. i just didnt understand what you were saying

  27. djrebel Says:

Nate I hope Jordan is back on track. Looks like he’s made strides, and he means sooo much to that offense when he’s on top of his game.

2011, Satterwhite always gives you that “potential” which is one reason I think he remains in the rotation.

  28. rebel2011 Says:

i sure hope that henry is back to his old self. we really could use his OBP and speed on the base paths and in the outfield

  29. rebelnate Says:

The Rabels are getting healthy at the right time I believe.

  30. djrebel Says:

Beckham leads the nation in home runs. He’s a national player of the year candidate, and Fields, the closer, is a strong candidate for stopper of the year.

  31. rebel2011 Says:

we have a pretty strong candidate for stopper of the year ourselves

  32. rebelnate Says:

    And a freshman at that.

  33. rebelnate Says:

When Bittle is on he is unhittable just ask Arkansas.

  34. rebel2011 Says:

    who is a freshman nate?

  35. djrebel Says:

You know, as good as Bittle has been, He’s a kind of tweener. Don’t know if he fits as “stopper”. He’s a combo long relief and closer. His saves numbers might not get him that award.

  36. rebelnate Says:

We got a good run going today PA!!!

  37. bigdraws Says:

No problem PA, that’s why I asked.

  38. djrebel Says:

If Pomeranz could finish strong he could be the newcomer of the year in the SEC, I would imagine.

  39. djrebel Says:

Nate, looks like you brought some friends!

  40. rebelnate Says:

As long as Cryer don’t come in during a close game anymore we should be o.k.

  41. rebel2011 Says:

yeah, but they have been going up. i dont know what they typically look for in this award, but if you take the name literally, then bittle is the best guy in the nation at coming in with runners on and less than 2 outs and STOPPING them from scoring, then pitching 2 or 3 more innings

  42. rebelfan38652 Says:

i am here too just eatin and readin

  43. djrebel Says:

He’s really good this year. A great turnaround for a kid that was snakebit a year ago.

  44. rebelnate Says:

Bittle’s strikeout to innings pitched ratio is unreal.

  45. rebel2011 Says:

i think that pomeranz could be newcomer of the year as well. it seems to be between the alabama infielder, pomeranz and the tennessee guy

  46. djrebel Says:

Weatherford’s at State is really good too. He would have made a difference for them in several games had he been around all year.

  47. rebelnate Says:

I think all three starting pitchers have dominate games this weekend. Finger crossed anyway.

  48. djrebel Says:

Pomeranz is a guy you can build a staff around. It will be interesting to see what Ole Miss pitching looks like next year.

  49. rebel2011 Says:

bittle leads the nation in Ks per 9. his is 16 and some change strikeouts per nine and the number 2 guy is at 13 and some change so thats a 3 strikeout advantage. he also is first in hits per nine and in the top 10 in ERA

  50. djrebel Says:

I hope you’re right on that Nate. Ole Miss really needs some type of success this weekend. Getting swept would really turn up the heat in the last six games.

  51. rebelfan38652 Says:

Was anyone surprised at how fast the the BCS shot down the plus one model?

  52. djrebel Says:

2011 you’re the stat monster, thanks. Hopefully he’ll be an impact guy this weekend to offset the Georgia pen.

  53. rebel2011 Says:

thats a good point PA. i have been thinking about that for awhile. i think pomeranz will be our friday guy, but i dont know after that. it will probably be nathan baker also, but who do you think could be the third guy?

  54. djrebel Says:

Not really. I think the Pac-10 and Big 10 are too emotionally attached to the Rose Bowl.

  55. rebelfan38652 Says:

    emotionally and financially

  56. rebel2011 Says:

yeah, i am a math and science kinda person, so i like numbers. they really help me determine who is good. but i do keep up with intangibles too

  57. djrebel Says:

Nathan Baker will be an experienced hand next year. Bukvich will probably be around. Will need some young arms too. Jake Morgan has looked good of late.

  58. rebelnate Says:

PA do you see Matt Smith getting back on the mound next year?

  59. rebel2011 Says:

i think that Jake Morgan is a very good player, and has been very good lately. what kind of starter do you think McKean would be?

  60. djrebel Says:

Mike and I were discussing that the other day, and it’s unclear at this point. My gut feeling is he won’t want to have the surgery. I don’t think he’d be really high up in the pitching plans anyway.

  61. rebelnate Says:

Mckeon is solid, Cryer is horrible and Morgan is good. I think Buk will be very good next year along with Baker.

  62. djrebel Says:

I think McKean is a good middle relief guy, a strike thrower. You like your starters to have more power and more of a chance to dominate. Just my opinion, Mike might think something else.

  63. rebelnate Says:

Cryer is gone after this year right PA.

  64. rebel2011 Says:

yeah i think so too. the only problem i have with mckean is he is the worlds worst at coming in with runners on and not giving up runs. but thats just because he is not a strikeout guy. nate, i dont think cryer is so bad. i think he is a really good pitcher, just as long as he keeps his walk numbers down. he seems kind of like bittle was last year, good era, good stuff, just snakebit

  65. djrebel Says:

Not necessarily. He’s not a senior.

  66. rebel2011 Says:

no, cryer is a sophomore i think but i may be wrong

  67. rebel2011 Says:

i think he is a RS sophomore

  68. djrebel Says:

Cryer has good stuff if he can keep his control. Certainly he’s not the only guy on staff with that issue right now.

  69. rebelnate Says:

Difference of opinion I guess rebel2011. Good luck in your studies 2011.

  70. rebel2011 Says:

so, since its almost time for you to go, how do you think that this weekend series will go, which games do you think we will win?

  71. rebel2011 Says:

thanks, nate. i will be so glad when its next friday

  72. djrebel Says:

I honestly think this is not a good matchup. Ole Miss hasn’t been a fast-starting offensive team lately, and if they get behind against this bullpen that’s a problem.

If Lynn isn’t on top of his game, and he’s gone back and forth, that will be a problem. Given the recent history, the Rebels really need to win with Lynn or Pomeranz and are quite capable of doing that. I dont think Georgia’s bats are great.

  73. rebelnate Says:

If we make an error when Lynn is on the mound he shuts down.

  74. djrebel Says:

Folks, I have to take care of a to-do list. Thanks for participating. Look for one of these again next week, probably on Friday.

    — PA

  75. rebel2011 Says:

it seems that so far this season we have played the best against teams with bad pitching and good hitting, such as vandy and state, and we have struggled against teams that are the opposite, just like Georgia is. so if we are to win then we must do something differently. cant wait to listen to it in 5 hours

  76. rebel2011 Says:

lynn does do that, but i think that nathan baker is the number one guy in the world at giving up unearned runs. i think he has given up 11 this year. it seems like he does it on purpose to try to teach his defense a lesson

  77. Rebel in Bham Says:

    PA,

Lets have lunch when you are here for the tourney. A little thanks for the job you continue to do for all of us. Scott

  78. djrebel Says:

Hey Scott. Email me when it gets closer and we’ll talk. We may be able to do something.

  79. rebel2011 Says:

i just saw that Jamariey Atterberry was kicked off the football team today. i dont know reasons, though. i saw it on olemisssports.com

  80. rebel2011 Says:

guess who’s baaaack! Jordan Henry is back in the leadoff spot tonight, and hopefully he will play like he has been the last week or 2!

  81. rebel2011 Says:

well the radio went out here in oxford i guess because the weather and i had to have a study break to listen to the game so i just went ahead and gave my 4.95 for the yahoo broadcast. so thank goodness i can listen to the game now. haha

  82. rebel2011 Says:

wow. i dont think that one error has hurt us this much ever before. the rebels give up 3 unearned runs in the 2nd inning because of a ferguson error and lose 5 to 4. it was a great game, we just came up on the wrong side of it. logan williams just missed a 2 run home run off fields to put us up 6 to 5, but jordan henry grounded out to first with a runner on second and 2 outs to end the game. its really tough to swallow, but it was a great game, and give the dogs credit for capitalizing on the error. one bad defensive play cost us the game.

  83. methuselah1933 Says:
