FYI: Draft resumes today at 10:30

They got in six rounds yesterday, and day 2 of the MLB draft begins at 10:30. I’ll keep an eye on things, but that will be between painting in the den, picking up kids from Bible School, etc., as I try to catch up domestic responsibilities forgotten during the postseason.

If you see someone of note drafted before I do, post it here.

The three Ole Miss pitchers expected to be drafted first — Lance Lynn, Cody Satterwhite, Scott Bittle — did indeed go on the first day.

Other underclassmen names to watch today: Cody Overbeck, Logan Power, Michael Guerrero, Justin Cryer, Brett Bukvich.

— PA

  1. Jeff Jolly Says:

Does anyone know if any of the Rebel signees have been drafted?

  2. djrebel Says:

No Ole Miss signees drafted yet. Some of the ones to look for are the catcher, Taylor Hightower, juco pitcher Chris Corrigan and juco outfielder David Phillips.

PA, didn’t Hightower make the statement that if he didn’t go in the top 5 rounds that he would go to Ole MIss? This is a kid that the Rebels really need.

  4. stevo17 Says:

I believe it was Corrigan who made that statement – per Yancy Porter. Hightower may have said the same thing though.

  5. djrebel Says:

Not aware of any statement, but I haven’t been following it that closely. That would be good news, but remember that sometimes when it gets down to decision-making time scouts and money can be pretty persuasive if they really want a kid.

There is a gap from day 1 money to day 2 money.

  7. bigdraws Says:

Breb has credability too. He’s the head coach for a little league girls softball team.

  8. boonevillereb Says:

LOL draws, Overbeck goes to Philly in the 9th.

    Basham pick 480- White Sox

  10. Jeff Jolly Says:

Michael Guerrero in the 20th round and 690th pick(I think) to the Washington Nationals. This will probably be low enough to keep him in Oxford for another year….I hope.

  11. Jeff Jolly Says:

Oops…he was the 631st pick in the 21st round.

  12. Jeff Jolly Says:

Logan Power in the 25th round, 765 pick to the San Diego Padres.

  13. Jeff Jolly Says:

None of the signees mentioned by PA above have been picked through 745 picks….that may be a little good news for the Rebs.

  14. Jeff Jolly Says:

The Atlanta Braves have not selected a single SEC player….not one. Well…at least we can say they are not raiding our campuses.

  15. boonevillereb Says:

Stevo, i take it you are a member of OMSpirit?

  16. stevo17 Says:

don’t we have a signee by the name of Barrett? Does anyone know his first name?

  17. stevo17 Says:

Yes I subscribe to the spirit and rivals sites and enjoy both, but I lean more on the daily journal and parrish than either site when I don’t want my facts sugarcoated.

  18. Jimmy Barbee Says:

It appears now from the draft that the Rebs will be undergoing a rebuilding progam next season. That’s good. Every player will now have to fight for a starting position. Competition, that’s a great motivator.
