FOOTBALL: Dogs take lead in scoreboard race?

A few weeks ago the Ole Miss news release said it would have the largest HD board in the SEC.

Now comes this from MSU media relations.

STARKVILLE — Work has begun at Mississippi State’s Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field on one of college football’s largest high definition video boards, MSU Director of Athletics Greg Byrne announced Wednesday.

The $6.1 million true HD board, will span the roof of the Leo Seal M-Club Centre in the south end zone at Scott Field, and will be operational by October, 2008. When completed, the new board will measure 152 feet wide by 135 feet, 6 inches tall, with a main HD screen 111 feet wide by 47 feet high. It will be the largest true high definition board in the Southeastern Conference. The board will also contain two vertical HD displays and one horizontal scoreboard display.

  1. va reb Says:

I guess the “HD race” is on.

  2. Jimmy Barbee Says:

Hope this big HD video board going up down at Stressville is equipped with audio system.

  3. jcdawgman18 Says:

It is. We’re taking care of that.

  4. djrebel Says:

JCdawgman are you going to get a seat in that south end zone club level? Some of those may open up now.

    — PA

  5. tcfan Says:

lol, State held out until we announced ours for they could out do it.

Oh well, we’ll have ours in August and it won’t be constructed in the middle of the season.

  6. Valley_Reb Says:

They can take all the time they want to construct theirs in Starkville since there are no seats on that end of the field! LOL!

  7. jcdawgman18 Says:

Nah, gonna stick to those student section tickets for a while….

  8. theconquistador2 Says:

Look at it this way. Now ya’ll want have to ask anyone if they know the MSU score. Ya’ll can just look to the southeast and get it off our video board.

  9. djrebel Says:

Have fun JC. The days of paying full price will reach you soon enough.

    — PA

  10. Mooch Says:

Quistador…did ya’ll wait to build so Doc wouldn’t fly into it?

  11. SSA Says:

Who asks for the MSU score?

  12. bigdraws Says:

TC once again you are the most uninformed person on the board. We announced our plans for a new tv before om. Same as the practice facility. Just bc yall jumped the gun and signed deals and all you think it was your idea first. As far as endzone seats go, congratulations on having more endzone seats. I guess more 50-yard line tickets (which State has)doesn’t mean as much. Holding out to see what the in-state rival will do, so you can make yours better…..Yeah, stupid idea, LOL!!!!

  13. stangreb Says:

Yeah, like we would ever wait on stank.

  14. bigdraws Says:

“Yeah, like we would ever wait on stank.”

That’s when you know you got em. 🙂

  15. bigdraws Says:

Hey, you’re right. Y’all got it going first, and we should be ashamed of ourselves for outdoing you. You can celebrate by eating here.

  16. Tim Nichols Says:

    6 inches tall?

  17. bigdraws Says:

    18 inches long.

  18. 03Rebel Says:

I know it’s vacation time for PA, but this “blog” is too slow. If it were’nt for draws, we wouldn’t have any posts. Let’s ban Miss State topics until November, at least. Surely we can get some good prediction posts going?

  19. Jimmy Barbee Says:

Look like both schools are trying to out do the other in this HD stuff. Could it be that both football teams expect disastrous seasons and these HD entertainment facilities are put there to entertain the fans.

One thing tho, the Rebels will prevail over those nasty dawgs come Nov. Its gona be a long painful ride home for those beaten dwag fans.

Vaught-Hemingway Staduim will be a nice place to come to this fall for some great entertainment.

Come out and cheer for the Rebels!!!

  20. rebbacker Says:

djreb did not even post the press release for the new OM board, then posts the press release for the state board. Let me say this clear enough. WE DON’T CARE ABOUT STATES VIDEO BOARD!!!!!

  21. tcfan Says:

    lol draws, most uninformed?

How about you show me a press release that shows that State plans on making a jumbotron with a release date earlier than when the jumbotron stuff came up about Ole Miss?

    Thanks!

  22. oxfordrebel Says:

If MSU has 6 mil laying around, looks like they would put the money into upgrading that pitiful stadium. The jumbotron for them is like makeup on an ugly woman, it may help the appearance, but underneath there is still a whole lot of ugly that needs to be dealt with.

I haven’t been on in a while, still trying to get everything tied down at the new place in Mantachie, but hopefully I’ll have I-net there soon, looking forward to all the preseason BS that’s going to be had on here. Later

  23. Jimmy Barbee Says:

tcfan, think you are preaching to an empty church, I believe Draws is on vacation.

oxfordrebel, nice hearing from you again, knew that you had moved. Hope everything going good for y’all over there.

  24. tcfan Says:

If Draws would check my original post, he would’ve saw where I said “held out” until Ole Miss announced theirs.

That means that, even though State had the idea first, they didn’t release the info about making one and they probably held out to see what Ole Miss was to do before they acted, making sure that their selling point is “the biggest true HD in the SEC”. No flame intended over State, if that was the case an actual good idea for Byrnes.

  25. bigdraws Says:

tc I that’s contrary to what you posted on GG’s board last week. You said that State was copying everything OM did. Just trying to set ya straight. No harm intended.

  26. bigdraws Says:

    ” tcfan Says:

    July 6, 2008 at 2:35 am ”

Losing that much sleep over it?

  27. Jared Says:

As note for observation, both State and OM paid the same amount. I’ll grant you, State’s is considerably larger.

OM used Daktronics, who, counting our purchase, furnishes either 9 or 10 of the 12 SEC teams with scoreboards.

State used Capturion, who has heretofore built the Southern Miss, Rice and Tulane boards.

Daktronics is a USA product, Capturion imports their LED boards from China.

For that large a disparity in size, without a concurrent disparity in price, I’m left with the impression something is lacking: quality.

  28. bigdraws Says:

    LOL!!

  29. tishcodog Says:

tcfan…lets get back to the fact of the matter…that states jumbotron is going to be bigger…haha

  30. BirdZ! Says:

Jared, I see those Veggie Delights from Subway have you thinking sharp today. Either that or you got your argument from the OM spirit board.

Let’s see, when you are 50 yards away from two gigantic 1080 HDTV screens, how would you be able to tell the difference? Oh yeah, ours is bigger.

  31. bully4prez Says:

Its elementary my dear Jared .Each pixel of an LCD typically consists of a layer of molecules aligned between two transparent electrodes, and two polarizing filters, the axes of transmission of which are (in most of the cases) perpendicular to each other. With no liquid crystal between the polarizing filters, light passing through the first filter would be blocked by the second (crossed) polarizer.

The surface of the electrodes that are in contact with the liquid crystal material are treated so as to align the liquid crystal molecules in a particular direction. This treatment typically consists of a thin polymer layer that is unidirectionally rubbed using, for example, a cloth. The direction of the liquid crystal alignment is then defined by the direction of rubbing. Electrodes are made of a transparent conductor called Indium Tin Oxide (ITO). Using that logic and the fact that Starkville is closer to the Equator you can conclude that State’s will be larger and Bob is in fact your uncle.

  32. flareb Says:

More wisdom from Starkless………. I see where Draws has been spreading the word in the sandbox.

  33. bigdraws Says:

I’m bored man. Just having a little fun during the slow time. Gotta return some of the venum JB left over on GG’s blog.

  34. armydawg23 Says:

oxford reb you are taliking about something being ugly and you are moving to Manscratchie?????

  35. Jimmy Barbee Says:

    Draws, what venum?

  36. bigdraws Says:

When you got bored, and stirred it up a few weeks ago.

  37. Jimmy Barbee Says:

I believe bully4pres has been catching upon the latest from (en.wikipedia.org)

  38. BirdZ! Says:

nope. he’s just a genius with a sense of humor.

  39. Jimmy Barbee Says:

OK, Birdz, bully has my utmost respect and his sense of humor.

If you don’t mind my asking, why the nickel for avatar? I have some old coins, some over a 100 years old. Many, many, many, years ago my dad would plow my great grandma’s garden. He plowed up many old coins in that old garden. Indian head pennies, buffalo nickels, some quarters. Don’t really know how they got there.

  40. BirdZ! Says:

It’s good luck charm day on the van today. I use a nickel to mark my golf ball. It has to be a nickel, or I can’t play.

I tried to collect coins as a kid, but that wore off pretty quick. I seem to remember that it was about the same time I realized tha girls weren’t actually gross, like I had previously thought. So, my coin collecting was put on the back-burner.

  41. Jimmy Barbee Says:

OK!! so much for your coin collection.

  42. bully4prez Says:

JB, i’m the founder of wikipedia so i wrote that in the first place. What i think is so funny is that you looked up LCD on wikipedia to check my facts. As Jared would say, thats “quality” entertainment.

  43. bigdraws Says:

As Jared would say, “Gimme another low fat chicken sammich.”

  44. bully4prez Says:

Also, I don’t know where Jared is getting his facts from but he’s wrong. Ole Miss is getting their’s from Circuit City and State’s is from Best Buy.

  45. Jimmy Barbee Says:

Thanks, bully, congrat on your foundership and inventions. But, do they really work? Anyway its a very good write up.

Know nothing about Jared or his stories.

  46. bully4prez Says:

athankyou. i do what i can.

  47. Mr. Conservative Says:

Getting back to the actual heading here, the question begs,” Dogs take lead in scoreboard race”- first, the ” dogs” have no use for THAT area of their field, thus putting up a huge and ugly ” big sign” that delivers ” scores” and maybe the food channel, to show everyone how to cook bbq and like minded ” meats ” that appeal to their class of spectators. On the other hand, the Ole Miss HD Board will give the particulars of the day in sports and afford all Ole Miss fans the days’ events covered within the grove and elsewhere within the confines of the Ole Miss campus.A huge difference between the ” haves ” of Ole Miss and the ” have-nots-and -wanna-be’s” of Starkpatch. Looking forward to the future of Ole Miss !!!!

  48. Third Party Says:

First of all, LCD boards of that size would be an amazing undertaking. I started laughing when I thought about the logistics of keeping a huge LCD screen clean outdoors. You also wouldn’t be able to see anything during the day!

Both boards are RGB Full Color LED Boards. The images you see are actually created by individual LEDs. A little research into Daktronics will show you that this is the only technology they sell.
