FOOTBALL: September home kickoffs moved back

This from Ole Miss Media Relations.

OXFORD — Due to expected high temperatures, Ole Miss is announcing a 6 p.m. CST kickoff for the Aug. 30 opener against Memphis and any non-television September home games this season, including the Sept. 13 meeting with Samford.

The Vanderbilt game on Sept. 20 is tentatively set for 6 p.m., pending the announcement of the SEC TV schedule for that week.

“The heat factor played a major role in this decision,” said Ole Miss Athletics Director Pete Boone. “We have experienced exceptionally hot weather in Oxford this summer, and we hope to provide as much relief as possible for our fans in the early-season games.”

PA last year I was truly frustrated by the lack of football smarts when it came to the play clock and having good management of the offense. I recently read of the major changes involving the play clock and was curious if Nutt worked on that in the Spring or if you are confident the team will have all of that down come this fall. There is nothing more frustrating than watching your offense look clueless & burn timeouts or have delay of game penalties, while staring @ the sideline shrugging their shoulders.

I’ll ask Houston about the clock. I’d be very surprised if they have trouble getting the play called and the ball snapped in time.

Off topic, but I need to ask JB a really important question.

    You know this fella?

  4. bully4prez Says:

Now we all know that JB’s grandson did in fact play for State.

Guys, How did you find out?? An ole Mississippi A&M dude. Been hiding under the Ole Miss banner for years, and now you know. Anyway what do you think of those moves, burst of speed, side steps all that great form. BirdZ, keep your cowbells, I am going to dig mind out. Had to keep them hid from the Sgt Maj for many years or she would have thrown them away.
Bully man, think that you could get me in that wikipedia?

  6. raleighrebel Says:

The 6 o’clock start time should leave plenty of time for the students to finish their Jim beam travelers before kickoff.

  7. bully4prez Says:

consider it done after watching that, JB. you got more moves than a U-haul

  8. Jimmy Barbee Says:

Thanks, bully, U-hauls do have frequent moves too. If anyone thinking about using one.

I guess this global warming thing is now effecting college football games in the mind of some. This one since it is a Tenn team from Al Gore’s State. I don’t ever remember the heat bothering the Ole Miss football team before. They have been known to withstand the heat, season after season.

  10. Jeff Jolly Says:

    Bird,
I actually do or did know that running back. Went to school with his great nieces and nephews. Also served on the EMCC board with his son-in-law for eight years. He is not JB…he is Wilbern Sudduth. Sorry JB.

He did a lot for MSU.

  11. Jimmy Barbee Says:

Jeff, those guy are just poking fun at me because I am and old senior citizen. I stir the pot over on their channel and they are taking a hit at me. We all know who this distinguished old football player is.

Beware!! they will be after you as well, be prepared.

  12. Jeff Jolly Says:

Yeah…I knew that. I won’t try to get them stirred up until after the season starts.

The remarkable thing about Mr. Sudduth was his age when he made that run. To top that off…he was still big in farming. I think he baled hay the next day. And that’s something I wouldn’t want to do now…even though I’m about 30 years younger now than he was at that time.

  13. BirdZ! Says:

That’s cool, Jeff. I got a kick out of the video. Hope you guys did, too.

  14. Jimmy Barbee Says:

I got a kick out of it too. Mr. Sudduth an amazing man in his elder age. Think many of youngsters today wish they had his enegry.

  15. djrebel Says:

Guy, I did not know Mr. Sudduth personally, but we got a kick out of Jackie letting him play in the spring game and all the players pretending to tackle him. Jackie basically told them if you touch him you will run like you’ve never run before.

  16. Jimmy Barbee Says:

Mr. Sudduth could be of some help to them this coming season.

  17. BirdZ! Says:

We’ve already checked, JB. Right near the end of Jackie’s tenure. He ain’t got no eligibility left.

  18. bully4prez Says:

you would have to be a State fan if he did play, JB. I know how you Civil War veterans stick together.
