FOOTBALL: Today’s agenda

Houston Nutt singled out the play of his receivers yesterday and also liked what he saw in terms of developing chemistry and leadership from his inherited players, particularly the seniors.

Free safety Johnny Brown is getting some practice time in individual drills as he works through a hamstring injury. Brown sustained the injury in a footrace against his cousin. Don’t know who the winner was.

Anytime you see the words “depth chart” this week, remember that it’s a very fluid thing right now. That being said, freshman running back Enrique Davis took some snaps with the 2s yesterday. That may not mean much at this point, we’ll see, but running back and cornerback will be the most contested position battles, I believe.

Rebels have a walk-through later this morning and are back on the field at 5:20.

Nothing to do with Rebel FB, but it is FB, early this morning we went down to Niceville to pickup our little drandau. As passing by the Ruckel Middle School, noted the football team out for early practice. Those little ole boys looked like big football helmets with legs.

Jimmy, you didn’t have any improper contact with prospects as a representative of Ole Miss, did you?

Maybe future ones. Across the street where Niceville Hi is practicing, there is definitely Ole Miss prospects there.Don’t know where they will sind up tho. Do you remember Bobby Garner, Rebs QB some years back? Bobby was one of those Niceville Golden Eagles. I think Bobby was a three year starter. Not sure if he was the QB that lead OM to victory over #1 ND.

Got a grandson who in my thoughts is one great soccer player. Trying to entice him to Ole Miss. I keep reminding him of all those pretty Rebel girls that play soccer up there. I know that he is interesting because of his smiles.

Any idea when the first scrimmage is set for? I’d like to drive by there and check it out.

They are still not sure on some details like that, but I’ll pass them along as soon as I know. I’m thinking Saturday sometime.

It’s great to read so many of Coach Nutt’s comments….sure didn’t get that with Coach O. Coach Nutt sure sounds engaged in all facets. Can’t wait to see those running backs perform…wonder if the Memphis game will be on pay per view.
