OXFORD – The Ole Miss football and volleyball teams will greet fans Saturday as part of “Meet the Rebels Day” festivities at the Indoor Practice Facility on campus.

The event, which attracted approximately 2,000 fans last year, begins at noon with the UMAA Foundation membership luncheon on the IPF playing field. The price is $10 per box lunch and may be paid on Saturday by cash or check.

Houston Nutt and the Ole Miss football coaches will address the crowd at 1:30 p.m., and will join the Rebel players in signing autographs and meeting fans from 2 until 4 p.m. A maximum of two items per person may be signed.

Posters and schedule cards will be handed out, and in a rare opportunity, the athletics department will be selling official team gear. Game jerseys and an assortment of practice apparel will be for sale along with a limited number of team helmets. The 2008 media guide will also be available for $15.

Three prizes will be raffled off Saturday by the UMAA Foundation: a football signed by the entire Ole Miss squad; two pre-game field passes for the South Carolina game; and two Rebel Club passes for the Auburn game. Raffle tickets are $5, and you must be present to win.

“Meet the Rebels Day” will conclude with the football team holding an intra-squad scrimmage inside of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The scrimmage is set to begin at 6 p.m. and will be open to the public.

Any chance hardy sits out this season and gets a medical red shirt?

My guess is no. Say he’s out eight weeks from yesterday. Then that puts him back, probably, for the South Carolina game. The five games before that are Memphis, at Wake Forest, Samford, Vanderbilt, at Florida.

Memphis, Samford and Vanderbilt the Rebels should win with available talent if they execute, not that Memphis and Vanderbilt should be considered “easy.”

They’ll miss Hardy at Wake for sure. That could be a game where a sack and a fumble make the difference, but they’re probably not going to win at Florida whether he plays or not.

If this team has a chance at six to seven wins, as I believe they do, they need a playmaker like Hardy in October and November.

Having him sit out for a medical redshirt is iffy. He may decide to just take his chances in the draft.

Props to Ole Miss for doing this. (takes swig of Pepto-Bismol)

I don’t think we do anything like this at MSU. PA, ask GG if he knows of anything.
