OXFORD — Former Ole Miss All-American long jumper Brittney Reese takes part in her first career competition in the Summer Olympics as she will compete in the long jump qualifying round Monday evening at 8:40 p.m. (CT) from Beijing.

The top-12 jumpers advance into the finals, which are slated to take place August 22 at 6:20 a.m. (CT).

Reese, the first female in school history to compete in the Olympic Games, will also attempt to become only the second track and field athlete in school history to claim a medal.  Former Rebel great Tony Dees won a silver medal in the 110 meter hurdles in Barcelona in the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Would it not be great to see Brittney Reese on the podium Friday? A big recruiting point for the whole track team. Rebel track, seasons 65 and 66
