FOOTBALL: Smelley to start for South Carolina

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier seemed determined early in the week that redshirt freshman Stephen Garcia would start at quarterback. He softened that stance as the week went on, and Thursday named Chris Smelley as the starter. Garcia is expected to get plenty of snaps.

I hope the Rebels have put the Gator game in the filing cabinet and taking a very serious look at SC. Steve Spurrier may have some aces up his sleeve.

    From Ole Miss Sports.com

Ole Miss – South Carolina 1977:
Bobby Garner, the junior from Valparaiso, Fla., then came into the game to direct Ole Miss’ second touchdown – a 65-yard drive that was capped by a beautifully executed pitch-out from Garner to Freddie Williams who raced 47 yards untouched to make the score 14-0 with 12:10 left.

I got news for whoever wrote that article on the Ole Miss Sports web. Bobby Garner not from Valparaiso but from Niceville. Lead Niceville Golden Eagles to State.
