FOOTBALL: Clarifying Greg Hardy

Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt spent the first part of his question and answer session clarifying the status of end Greg Hardy.

It’s no secret DL coach Tracy Rocker, Nutt and others weren’t pleased with Hardy’s energy level.

Nutt stressed today that Hardy wasn’t the only player who needed to increase his tempo, and he said by no means had Hardy been kicked off or voted off the team was was rumored last week.

“My phone blew up this weekend about his dismissal. His mom called me and wanted to know if it was true. That didn’t happen,” Nutt said.

Nutt said Hardy’s mother would be the first know, after Hardy, if that had happened.

Instead, he said Hardy had his best week of practice last week.

“He was jut working hard and trying to get better. His attitude was very good.”

I was out of pocket and did not participate in the Hardy rumor. From what I’ve heard — which I guess makes this a rumor — the Hardy rumor originated from a Jackson radio show where the host said he’d “heard a rumor” then went on to discuss it.

The thing took on a life of its own on the Internet.

Hardy’s past makes something like this believable, but it wasn’t true this time.

Maybe Hardy and his teammates will increase their energy level this week when Ole Miss travels to face No. 2 Alabama.

Hope Greg Hardy will be ready for duty soon. There’s always one in the wings to fill his spot.

Congrat to the US Navy on its birthday. 1775 to present.
