CHAT ON

I’m here for the next 30 minutes. Post questions and comments below.

Stuck-in-Big-12-Country, I’m not sure if the Rebels will land a 5-star, but I don’t think that’s the personality of Nutt’s classes anyway.

Enrique Davis was a 5-star, and it’s taken him a while to adjust. Andrew Harris was a 4-star receiver, and he’ll fit in, but there’s a lot of talent at receiver right now.

Nutt will sign the 3-stars who work hard most of the time.

Raleighreb, I think the Wild Rebel has been de-emphasized once teams have figured out McCluster isn’t going to throw the ball. I think it’s a formation that can be a real boost, but they’re going to have to jazz it up, maybe let somone else take the snap and give it a true throwing threat.

  2. Stuck in Bham Says:

I would perfer 3 and 4 star quality players that will bust their humps and keep out of trouble…

  3. djrebel Says:

I think that’s what Nutt’s going to sign most of the time. He’ll find a guy like Brandon Bolden flying under the radar too.

  4. djrebel Says:

Raleigh, I figure the Wild Rebel was used less at Arkansas also because those players were quite familiar with the formation.

What’s everybody doing on the open date? If you don’t have any Ole Miss game to emotionally invest yourself in, do you just take a break from college football completely or do you get wrapped up in the other games.

Last open date I took the family to Six Flags. Got to do something cheaper this time.

I’m off to full moon. Take care

    Sounds like a great plan.

  8. Raleighrebel Says:

I’m headed to the UNC vs Georgia Tech game tomorrow. Girlfriend has season tickets.

  9. djrebel Says:

Who wins that one? North Carolina?

  10. Raleighrebel Says:

I hope so. Both GA Tech and UNC have both been off and on throughout the season, dropping in and out of the rankings. I’m hoping for a UNC win, but I think it is going to be a close one. I’m glad its at noon, so hopefully we can get back at a decent hour and not have to deal with Franklin Street tomorrow night. UNC has a nice campus. It’s a lot like Ole Miss’ campus, but a little bigger.

  11. djrebel Says:

I’m all about afternoon football. I know most fans like the night games, but I like getting home earlier and watching a few games on TV. I’m glad I was around to watch Texas-Texas Tech last week.

PA, since there doesn’t appear to be many on the chat blog today, i’ll ask a dumb one…What do you think the chances are of us getting within the top 25 this year? Will winning out get us there? When looking at the complete polls, we seem to fall around 50 right now.

  13. djrebel Says:

I think winning out would get them there. That would be five straight wins plus a win over LSU along the way. Maybe seven would work, depending on who the bowl opponent is and how the other bowls shake out at the end.

I just hope the Rebels finish strong in the last three and get to a nice bowl.

  14. djrebel Says:

Raleigh, what’s the take on Duke football in your part of the world? I would imagine those folks are pretty excited right now.

  15. Raleighrebel Says:

You know, I work with friends that are UNC and NC State fans, and they are very worried about playing Duke this year. I’m planning on going to the UNC Duke game after Thanksgiving (at Duke). Cutcliffe has done more for that program in one year than they could ever hope for. I hope he stays there and keeps it exciting.

My friend that works for the Alumni association came up to visit not too long ago. He coordinates all of the Alumni group events and used to be in contact with Cutcliffe all the time. He paid a visit to Coach Cutcliffe in his office and said that Cutcliffe told him, “Ya’ll have a good coach down there now.” Also said that he couldn’t be more happy with where he was b/c he had all of his old staff (from Ole Miss) there.

I think they’ll have trouble getting to a bowl this year. I’ll let you know what the atmosphere is like at the games after the UNC vs Duke game.

  16. djrebel Says:

Thanks. Have a good weekend. I’ll remember you when the UNC-Ga Tech score rolls across the ticker.

  17. Raleighrebel Says:

Appreciate the chat. You have a good one as well.

  18. Jeff Jolly Says:

Headed to the Troy game myself.

Sorry I missed the lunch chat but Re: the Wild Rebel AND Recruiting, the answer for the future there may be in Chad Bumphis, if they can land him. I think he’s starting at QB tonight for Tupelo, with the regular QB out now. I keep hearing that we have a real good shot at him. He’s played RB, WR, as well as being a great return man. We need him.

  20. John Mc Says:

We have an open date AND my wife is going out of town. I am looking forward to lots of football on the tube and plenty time around the grill. Looks like the weather in the Memphis area is going to be outstanding. Doesn’t get much better.

  21. rebelfan38652 Says:

Rebnutt: I heard he was set on coe college, but it was going to be hard to get him in anyway because of grades. That is pure hearsay though. I would like to have him.

  22. Bo Says:

    PA,

This is totallly out of left field, but I’ve heard Doug Williams, of the Washington Redskins Super Bowl fame, say to ESPN twice that he was at Ole Miss on Monday or Tuesday watching the football team practice.

Any word on why he’d be there? Did he speak to the team?

  23. Matthew Says:

I’m going to Homecoming for my other alma mater. That’s right Parrish the Blue Raiders taking on your War Hawks in the ‘Boro. MTSU’s victory over Maryland @ home is looking big and they had state on the ropes and I think they will get them next fall when state comes to the ‘Boro. Hopefully the weather will clear up and they can have a good crowd tomorrow. Maybe MTSU can rough Monroe up for the Rebels. Maybe one day the Rebels will do a 2 for 1 swap w/ MTSU. It’s funny b/c a few years ago when MTSU played in Oxford everybody loved the Grove and basically stole the concept and now in Murfreesboro we have the “Walnut Grove” w/ the tents and walk-thru, etc. It really has helped student involvement and tailgating and the crowd sized has increased as Middle is more competitive.

  24. Jay Stokes Says:

i know i say it a lot, PA….but i’m still pumped about basketball this year. i think if one of the new players down low steps up like chris warren did last year…..we’ll be in really good shape.

  25. rebelfan38652 Says:

I read on ESPN that Coach O could be headed to UT is Lane Kiffin does become their new coach.

  26. rebnutt Says:

Re: Chad Bumphis, I thought he was okay in the grades area, but I’m not sure. Fla. & Bama want him.
Also, PA, I heard Markusson (sp?) got a big OL, coming soon (to enroll next semester?) from a mid-west Div-2 program who had earlier committed to Nebraska. Apparently, he would not have to sit out next year. Can you get any scoop on that?

  27. Jimmy Barbee Says:

The State of Mississippi got the football talent, regardless how many stars those young players are rated. The field is ready for harvest. Just go after them.

  28. djrebel Says:

Hey guys. Thanks for beefing up this thread. I’m just getting settled in for the high school football rush, and I’m going to take a shot at answering some things.

Rebnutt, I think Ole Miss has a decent shot at Bumphis. He doesn’t give a lot of insight in his comments, but he’s made for the Wild Rebel. He could give them a passing threat from there as well, something they’re lacking now. Great hands and great with the ball.

Bo, I was over there Tuesday and didn’t see Doug Williams. He may have been around later. Not sure.

Matthew, I haven’t followed the Indian-Warhawks much. I know they had a stud back last year in Calvin Dawson, but they lost him and lost some key defensive players off that team. I figure any time a Sun Belt team wins at Troy that’s pretty good. I think Troy was 4-0 in the league when the University formerly known as Northeast Louisiana won 31-30 last week.

Jay, there’s a lot of talent on that basketball team, but that’s just the first step. They’ve got to play together and learn what type of intensity D1 basketball requires every night. I think they’ll get there. In the exhibition last week they looked pretty raw, as you would expect them to look.

Rebelfan, I haven’t heard about Ed at Tennessee. I’d just as soon he stay with the Saints so I don’t have to dig him up every year.

  29. bro-n-law Says:

PA, what are the weekend plans with the open date?

  30. djrebel Says:

Hey bro-n-law how are you. I’m planning my day around the Baylor game. Don’t want to miss any of that. (Ha.) How are the Bears this year. I think they were 3-5 last time I looked.

Actually, the plan, I’m told, if for yard work and lots of it. I will probably catch some of LSU-Alabama, and I’ll try to have all the chores marked off by the time Texas Tech comes on tomorrow night.

What are you guys doing this weekend?

    — PA

  31. bro-n-law Says:

haven’t gotten my marchin’ orders for the weekend, yet! Probably do some work at the office and if I’m lucky, catch a game. Ol’ Miss has been playing pretty good this year. I expect y’all to be in the top 25 soon.

  32. djrebel Says:

    Maybe if they win out.

  33. farley662 Says:

Cooking a roast and gonna watch LSU and that other team play.

  34. ripleyreb Says:

After the LSU win over the Rebs in 2003, Coach Saben made the comment that Ole Miss Fans were the most obnoxios fans he had ever seen. I would like to see his team get off the bus at Tiger Stadium. They will find out what obnoxious means.

  35. rebnutt Says:

We got a wish…the Rebs have a commit from a good JUCO CB from Miss. Gulf Coast, name is Demond Washington. Also, the OL from ND State is enrolling in Jan.
PA, any detail on these guys?
