Kickoff will be 2:30 for the CBS national slot. There will be night football in Baton Rouge, but probably only for a few minutes.

good to get some primetime coverage. only one thing though….i absolutely despise that color analyst who does the 2:30 CBS games….i forget his name. i get so tired of sports commentators these days who feel the need to inject their own opinion into the game. during the bama game, i kept hearing him say “i wouldn’t have called that play right now….here’s why you don’t call that play….this was a 2nd and short play, not a 1st and 10 play”…..they don’t understand that nobody could care less what their opinion on the game is or what they think of the players’ abilities or the play calling. just call the game, and keep your freakin’ opinions to yourself!

    ok, i’m done now.

  2. farley662 Says:

They obviously love them some Bama too. And Saban.

  3. BirdZ! Says:

2:30 isn’t prime time. Prime time starts at 7:00 central. Unfortunately, that’s about when the Bama-MSU game will be this week.

And his name is Gary Danielson.

  4. stangreb Says:

Danielson is a joke. I simply turn the volume down on the t.v. and turn David Kellum on my radio.

  5. farley662 Says:

That’s really disliking someone when you choose to listen to Yellam.

  6. bigdraws Says:

Danielson must be the worst of all time if he can’t top Kellum. Ouch!!

  7. m4rebs Says:

    Have another, Jack Crystal.

  8. doubletripper Says:

man you talk about boring!!!!!!! my son and i have tried to listen to jack crystal a couple of times on the way home from our games and we both almost went to sleep. bad news since my son was driving. it maybe that old jack is almost put to sleep by the bullies and that’s why he is so boring. GO REBS.

  9. BirdZ! Says:

We Bulldog fans usually catch a nap during the 2nd quarter.

  10. bigdraws Says:

Jack’s the best. I don’t think there’s any debate about that. Now, I can see how if you’re a rebel fan that kellum would seem great. But if you’re a neutral fan if you were listening to him. You would have no idea the other team even took the field. Too much of a homer in my book. For a happy medium you might want to try Jim Ellis. For you newcomers to the game of college baseball that’s the MSU baseball commentater. Fair and balanced.

  11. bigdraws Says:

And Doubletripper had his son driving because he got too wasted. may have been why he kept falling asleep. His son just agreed with him so he would pass out and he could have a peaceful ride home.

  12. Bo Says:

I understand the complaints about Kellum, but I love his energy! I want someone to keep me entertained, because radio is a born media by nature.

I have 2 main complaints about Jack Crystal:

    1. Mono-tone/BORING voice. He can put someone to sleep in seconds, and when I’m listening to football, I don’t want to sleep!

    2. He’s like listening to a novel on tape. I don’t care what color socks the players are wearing. I don’t need 30 adjectives describing the players’ uniforms. I just want to know what the score is, what happened on the previous play and what the down and distance is.

I can’t even count how many times I’ve heard Jack Crystal say, “the bulldogs come out with the maroon socks and the maroon jerseys, with the white helmets.”

  13. bigdraws Says:

    No. 1 = It’s Cristil.

    No. 1a = He’s 80 years old.

No. 2 = Yellum does the same thing.

  14. bigdraws Says:

Alright, alright. yall got ya panties in a wad. Yellum is a good and knowlegable announcer……BWAaaaaaaaaaahahahaahhaa, sorry. I can’t say that with a straight face

  15. bigdraws Says:

And btw, on the uniform stuff. Yellum went in such detail about our unis last year he saw fit to make fun of them. Next time you want to have some input. At least try to know what in the hell you’re talking about Bo. My apologies to the rest of ya.

  16. Jay Stokes Says:

i don’t understand why there are so many kellum haters. yeah, he gets a little excited sometimes, but he surpasses a lot of other people i have heard in commentating ability. cordelli is the one who needs to be made fun of…not kellum.

  17. Mike Says:

Dad wasn’t wasted Big. Never has been. Never will be. To quote you, “know what the hell you’re talking about”.

So what? Kellum’s a loud homer. He’s the Ole Miss radio guy. I’m okay with that. Jack Cristil is boring to listen to. Sorry but that’s just a fact. Why’s anyone on Kellum’s case? Any of you ever listened to Dave Woloshin do a Memphis Tigers game? Or even worse than that, Jack Eaton when he was doing Memphis State games back in the day? You talk about a loud homer. I didn’t necessarily care for Memphis State but Eaton was a blast to listen to just to see what would come out of his mouth next.

  18. bigdraws Says:

I obviously don’t know your dad it was a joke. Yellum sounds like a WWF announcer. If that’s what you need to get up for a game, I guess you’re not much of a football fan. I’ve listened to the guy take shots at the intelligence of other schools alumni, talk down to players on other teams when there’s a disagreement, and down right be oblivious when another team puts together a good game. He’s unprofessional and a complete joke.

  19. bigdraws Says:

And on top of that he refers to the area behind left field at Swayze, “The Left-Field Lounge”. LMAO!!!

  20. BirdZ! Says:

Jack has gotten slow in his old age, but he’s classic and still does a pretty good job. Kellum does alright, but his voice gets just as lout with a 3-yard run or a 35 yard screen pass when the receiver breaks 6 tackles.

Seriously, the uniform thing? All the announcer is trying to do is help you create a mental picture of the action.

  21. bigdraws Says:

“help you create a mental picture of the action.”

Just like someone describing what the saw on Cinemax on Friday night.

  22. Braves Dawg Says:

Yellum = Harry Caray’s HR call of a pop fly to 2nd base.

  23. bornarebel Says:

I don’t understand the love affair that state fans have with Jack Cristil. One time I heard two state allums refer to Cristil as their “most high father”. And these guys are Christians. I never have been able to figure that out. The only time I have ever listened to Jack, he was pretty boring but state was getting beat pretty bad and I understand that its hard to get too excited about losing.

  24. bigdraws Says:

We need to put this one behind us. It’s Veterans Day afterall. Thank you to all the Vets out there and the one’s who have passed on.

  25. Bo Says:

bigdraws, I’m sorry you feel such anger, but the fact remains, Jack Cristil is overrated. Now, Larry Munson at Georgia was awesome. He was old, but energetic and who can forget the whole hobnail boot game against Tennessee.

The only real question is why would a State fan post so extensively on an Ole Miss blog? Jealous much?

  26. bigdraws Says:

Nope. I enjoy posting over here. don’t care a whole lot for our new writer. You must not read very much Bo. I’m very complimentary of Om when they deserve it. And am one of the first to congratulate yall when you succeed. Only reason jack is not nationaly recognized is bc of who he announces for. You are biased and I highly doubt you could ever be objective about such a subject.

  27. Mike Says:

Big, joke accepted. I agree with you. It’s Veteran’s Day. Tell a veteran that you appreciate their service to our country and if you see an active serviceman or woman, shake their hand and tell them the same.

  28. djrebel Says:

Veterans Day tends to take on more meaning for you as you grow older. If jumped into my awareness in college when a Sunday School teacher, himself a veteran, would call our house of five guys at the unthinkable hour of 7 a.m. to remind us of Veterans Day every time it rolled around. I greatly appreciate our veterans.

  29. oxfordrebel Says:

I am not a huge fan of Kellum, but he is easier to listen to than Jack. The ONLY reason that Jack is even recognized is b/c he’s been there since the founding of Cow U. I guess people think that just b/c a guy has been there for umpteen years means that he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread (and I believe Jack was around when that was invented too)…

Our guy may be a homer, but at least he doesn’t talk like a robot. I do like his sidekick however, he seems to be the Dick Cheney of the crew.

  30. bigdraws Says:

OR, if you did have a slice of bread you’d just ruin it with a bottle of A1 sauce.

  31. oxfordrebel Says:

  32. redstickrebel Says:

You can’t hate on Jack. Yes he is old but you know who has the ball and the down and distance and what’s at stake. I’ve never heard Kellum be referred to as Yellum that’s pretty good. It’s not uncommon for Kellum to be talking about the girls volleyball team during crucial parts of the game. I understand he has to promote them but not when Ole Miss is moving the ball or the other team for that matter. Eli Gold is a good one from BAMA and hate the team. I bet that Jack served his country too.

  33. farley662 Says:

You never know what is going on with Kellam. He calls every play like it’s a 99 yard TD run. And his ability to insult the other team and their fans is something only a true jackass would do.

  34. RebelGiant Says:

The yellum thing is what many of the msu guys call David. Lots of them do it. He is pretty animated. I like David, and I’ve never heard him make fun of the other teams or their fans, and I listen to him all the time. Doesnt seem like that kind of guy.

Jack is pretty good too. I think it’s funny that he refers to all of the players as youngsters…

  35. John Says:

I’m a big Ole Miss fan but I can’t stand Kellum calling a game. I’ve never noticed him insulting other teams, but I can tell more from the crowd reaction than from what he says during a play. It can be a 30 yard play, but all you get from him is “Jones takes it around the right side to the thirty or maybe the forty yard line” (and it turns out to be the twelve yard line). The fact that the home team is going wild tells you more than he does. I swear I’ve also heard him refer to the 55 yard line before, and it wasn’t a CFL game. And at least Cristal does tell you what happens during a play. He may put you to sleep, but you don’t wonder if it the play was an interception, a touchdown pass or a quarterback sneak like with Kellum.
