  1. djrebel Says:

Bob Huggins is pretty tall. He and Kennedy probably made an imposing couple of figures along the bench. Ole Miss students are heckling him now about his DUI.

  2. djrebel Says:

Students have turned out. Kennedy emailed them and asked them to be present, wear red and be loud. Looks like an average crowd beyond the students. Maybe 5,000, but I’m not good at those guesses.

  3. djrebel Says:

Kennedy and Huggins are talking at mid-court. Nutt’s in the building, so he isn’t being interviewed by Auburn at this very moment.

  4. djrebel Says:

Murphy Holloway cracks the first five. Other starters are DeAundre Cranston at forward, Warren, Huertas and Terrico White at the guards.

  5. djrebel Says:

WV’s Alex Ruoff a 6-6 forward has hit a couple of 3 pointers. Rebels have been called for 3 fouls, WV none. Neither Warren nor Huertas have scored behind the arc yet. WV 14-7 at 15:46.

  6. djrebel Says:

OL coach Mike Markuson is here. Looks like he’s the guest of somebody in the expensive seats. Maybe they’re his seats and I just haven’t seen him here before.

  7. djrebel Says:

Malcolm White just fouled Butler, WV’s most productive post player. Team fouls are 5 for Ole Miss, none for WV. WV leads 18-9 at 14:04.

  8. djrebel Says:

WV called for first team foul at 13:31.

  9. djrebel Says:

WV time out at 11:56 with a 21-13 lead. Coming off the bench hasn’t helped Malcolm White offensively, nor has started helped DeAundre Cranston. Rebels are just bad in the post right now. Maybe theyll get better.

  10. djrebel Says:

Malcolm White fouls and the Mountaineers are in the bonus wtih 10:36 left in the first half. Fouls are 6-2. WV leads 24-17. Not all the fouls against Ole Miss have been poor calls, but two of them have.

  11. djrebel Says:

Huertas just 2 points so far. Rebels can’t win like that. It’s not like scoring is coming from somewhere else.

  12. djrebel Says:

Rebels held WV without a field goal for almost 4 minutes and cut the lead to 26-22. Still struggling to score. It’s 28-22 and WV ball when play resumes at 6:50.

  13. djrebel Says:

Cranston just got an offensive rebound. It’s noteable, because there have been so few. He was fouled and will be at the line when play resumes. WV leads 33-27 at 3:53.

  14. djrebel Says:

I knew coming in that West Virginia played very good defense. Certainly that’s been the case here. I know Ole Miss is athletic, and if the Rebels can keep the game from getting away here at the end of the first half and in the early second half, they’ll have a shot at the end.

  15. Raleighrebel Says:

PA, working out of town this month in Kinston (the armpit of North Carolina). However, the hotel room does have the Ole Miss game on tv. We’re not playing great right now, but we’re keeping it close. We just need a good run. Gotta start hitting those free throws on a consistent basis.

  16. djrebel Says:

Holloway has gotten to the goal a couple of times but has been unable to finish. Still a lot of energy and 5 points. … Huertas is forcing thiings, not 3-pointers but drives. … WV is tuff on D. Butler is really getting in the passing lanes and has ended 3 Ole Miss possessions with steals.

  17. djrebel Says:

Cranston is looking more active on the glass at the moment.

  18. Jeff Jolly Says:

Thanks Raleigh…..just found it on FSS

  19. djrebel Says:

Rebels haven’t had a field goal since 5:08. They’re hanging around by hitting free throws.

Graham and Henry called for charges on 2 of the last 3 possession.

WV with the last shot, getting the ball at 6.3 seconds. They drive the floor for a layup over Cantinol. It’s 40-33 at the break.

  20. djrebel Says:

The layup at the end hurt. You just don’t let anybody go the length of the floor in 6.3 seconds so easily. At the half, Ole Miss is shooting 52.4 percent but has gotten off only 21 shots to WV’s 35.

Rebels are just 1-for-5 from 3, and that’s a huge part of their game. Huertas is 0-1 from 3.

Ole Miss is 10-for-12 from the FT line, WV 5-for-13 or this could be uglier than it is.

Best defense Ole Miss has seen this year, but not the last time they’ll see this level. Come January they’ll see it every night.

  21. Jaxrebsteve Says:

Same song, different day. Defense against teams with the same or better talent is going to be a big problem. Because they are scrambling and helping teammates who are out of position a lot, they are then not in position to rebound.

The effort is great and the talent is there for the young guys, but it might be late in the season before they figure it out.

We’ll still win way more than we lose. Go Rebs.

  22. Raleighrebel Says:

They mentioned on tv that we’re #1 in the SEC at the free throw line. That’s a good statistic to have, especially with our inexperience.

  23. djrebel Says:

Holloway falling out of bounds with an offensive rebound throws back to Warren who hits a 3. Then Holloway steal, and Warren finishes the break with a leaner.

WV leads 44-43 and calls time out at 16:50.

  24. djrebel Says:

Loudest applause of the night and a standing ovation for Nutt, who looks somewhat embarrassed by the attention. He might be able to hide in the much larger Bud Walton, but hard to hide at Tad Smith.

  25. djrebel Says:

Huertas has heated up. Looking for and getting more shots. Rebels up 55-52 at 13:08

  26. djrebel Says:

Rebels up 63-60 at 9:34. Graham just scored on a nifty move down the right side of the lane. They’re showing the Hoosiers clip now.

  27. djrebel Says:

A 3 for Huertas after Holloway gets an offensive rebound. Huertas has 23, 14 in the second half. Rebels up 71-66 at 4:27.

  28. djrebel Says:

WV’s John Flowers, a sophomore reserve, has scored in transitiion and hit an open 3-pointer on the last two trips. WV leads 75-73 at 1:43. Flowers has seven points in the last 2 minutes.

  29. ColoradoReb Says:

What’s up PA the suspense is killing me(LOL)?

  30. ColoradoReb Says:

Great news on Nutt by the way. I sure like the way you stay abreast of things.

  31. Bo Says:

tough loss for the Rebels…played hard but we got dominated on the boards and that was the difference.

I really like Kennedy..I hope we can keep him around!

  32. Joel Says:

We really gave away a game that we should’ve never been in a position to give away!

  33. djrebel Says:

Sorry ColoradoReb. I got caught up on the print gamer. That happens with 8 p.m. tips. Deadlines collide.

It was a tough loss. It was a hard-fought game against a tough opponent, and I never thought Ole Miss would lose when it had a 3-point lead and Warren at the free throw line with 20 seconds left.

The Rebels made some nice strides in getting scoring contributions from others, but they have to correct this opponent offensive rebounding thing or they will get killed in the conference. Can’t continually give the other team as many extra field goal attempts as West Virginia had.
