Ole Miss athletics director Pete Boone told me yesterday there is no current plan to restructure Houston Nutt’s contract with a pay increase, though he didn’t rule it out. Nutt made $1.7 million this year and isn’t scheduled to make $2 million until 2011.
“We’d have to sit down and talk about that. It’s just a year old, and everything seems to be going according to what we’d hoped and anticipated,” Boone said.
Sometimes plans change. Boone has talked about the “price of poker” as it relates to the expense of trying to be competitive in major college athletics. If Mississippi State pays $2 million to its next football coach the price of poker increases.
Ole Miss has a good thing going with Nutt and his staff right now and will work to keep him, I’m sure.
