FOOTBALL: Leaving Dallas

In about seven hours, that is. We’ll get up at 5 and get on the road.

Special thanks to Todd Vinyard for helping post some blog content as the game went on today.

I’ll be traveling, so I won’t be able to update the blog until later in the day.

Kudos to the Rebels on a solid effort against a good team. Coaches knew they had to get pressure on Graham Harrell, get decent secondary play and control the ball and score on offense.

They did well on all three fronts and capped a great turnaround season.

Final polls won’t come out till after the BCS title game. I’m thinking the sum total of six straight wins, plus an impressive nationally televised win against Texas Tech might get the Rebels a top 15 finish.

Thoughts?

i never would have imagined this going into the season. i would have been happy with a 6-6 record…..then they make the cotton bowl, beat the no. 7 team in the country in a very convincing fashion….and possibly finish out in the top 15?

this team and this staff exceeded my expectations all season long…..i am proud for the ole miss football program. this was a well-deserved and long-awaited moment of respect. i only hope the coaching staff stays together at least a couple of more seasons to shoot for even bigger goals.

    go rebels…..

  2. bro-n-law Says:

Y’all probably deserve to be in the top 10! If Tech had won, where would they be ranked, hmmmm?

  3. JakeFuryReb Says:

PA, i beat you there already! i’m predicting since Alabama lost, we might could sneak in the Top 10.

and i’m hoping Ole Miss gets in the top ten plays on SC!!!

  4. JakeFuryReb Says:

NOOOOO!!!! I’m sooo pissed off! We beat them. We “pounded” them! Why on God’s green earth are we the victim’s of ESPN??

  5. DAvid C. Says:

I’m not too sure we can jump all the way into the top 10, even with this great showing, because of the 4 losses. However, I’d love to put this outstanding Rebel team up against any team in the top 10 and see where we really stand. My guess is we’ll move up to about 15th but I think we’re better than what our final ranking will be and our 9-4 record. Too bad we let atleast 2 maybe 3 games get away from us before we got it going or this could have been a dream season. However there is no reason next season won’t be a magical year with the players we have returning!
Go Rebs! and thanks PA for the outstanding job you do for all us Rebel fans in NE Miss.

  6. colorado Says:

Top 10 for sure. Probably 10.

  7. JakeFuryReb Says:

Eat your words ESPN, eat your words!

  8. FTMyersReb Says:

Unfortunately, we shall not make it into the ESPN/Media controlled top ten, Despite our wins and close losses. We are THE great cinderella story of the year and should have great hype/hope going into Feb recruiting and preseason rankings. I’m like Nutt, I wish we could keep this entire team intact!!! But our biggest losses are Jerry, Oher, Wallace, and Sanford (I think). We could have easily been 12-1. BCS contenders. I hope that the “one heartbeat” theme stays next year and we remember how bad it sucks to be underdogs. MORAL: GREAT TEAM, GREAT WIN, HOTTY TODDY!! (if there is a moral to my rambling) PS, PA, thanks for the updates, insights, notes. Signing day is nigh, and as a south fla reb, I look forward to some surprises/ upsets for Feb. Thanks PA!

    What did ESPN say Jake?

  10. pgrebels! Says:

91.4% of America said TT would win according to their polls. Also, they only show about two Ole Miss’s best plays in comparison to about three of Harrells TD passes.

  11. Johnny Brown Says:

This was a great game for not only the Rebels, but also for our State and the SEC. Go REBELS!

  12. Raleighrebel Says:

In the AP, I think Cincinnati, GA tech, Ok State will drop out of the top 15 We should definitely jump Pittsburgh, BYU, and Michigan State, since they lost. Texas Tech should be ranked behind Ole Miss, but it will be interesting to see how far they fall. That could actually help our final ranking if the AP writers consider that when voting. If Texas dominates Ohio State, that should help as well. I think top 10 is probably not going to happen, but 11-15 will be between Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas Tech, Boise State, and Georgia. It will be hard to jump Georgia, Oregon and Boise State. I predict a 13 or 14 final ranking, which would be great. It will be hard to jump over 9 spots in the Coach’s poll, since we’d have to jump VA Tech, Ball State (if they win) and Northwestern. Just my rambling thoughts. Great win for the Rebels!

  13. Raleighrebel Says:

Watching sportscenter this morning. ESPN just admitted they were wrong after showing the players holding up the ‘94% said we couldn’t do it…we did’. Also, ESPN showed 3 positive plays for the Rebels (TD pass to Wallace, interception by Green for a TD, and the safety), and only one for Tech (TD pass to Crabtree), so we shouldn’t complain too much. We have nothing to complain about after the great win we had yesterday.

  14. JakeFuryReb Says:

It just took the a few hours to swallow their pride and admit they were wrong about Ole Miss all season long. We’re no longer just the team that beat Florida, we’re finally getting talked about like a legitimate team. Way to go Rebels!

  15. kylebuddy Says:

Jake, we don’t get into top 10 plays. Already seen ’em. TT’s Crabtree catch in the end zone, the one that he had to go down and get got in there. But they did mention “Ole Miss smashes TT” and “Ok, we admit, we were wrong” when they showed the board the Rebs were hoding up!
GO REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
94% SAID WE COULDN’T, WE DID!

  16. kylebuddy Says:

My bad Jake, i hadn’t read the lower comments yet.

  17. kylebuddy Says:

I say that the Rebs get a # 12 ranking.
    # team
1 Oklahoma (if they beat FL)
2 Texas (if they beat ohio)
3 Florida (if they lose to OK)
    4 Utah
    5 Bama
    6 USC
    7 Penn State
    8 Ohio State
    9 Boise State
    10 Mizzou
    11Oregon
    12 OLE MISS!!!
13 Texas Tech ( they’ve got it good, considering we beat them)
    14 Georgia
    15 VT
    16 TCU
    17Cincy
    18 LSU
    19 Michigan State
    20 Georgia Tech
    21 Vandy
    22 Iowa
    23 Kentucky
    24 ECU
    25 Kansas

  18. JB Says:

I really could not care less what that left wing liberal media organization, ESPN,ABC, The Walt Disney organization has to say. They are probably jealous of Fox since Fox Sports carried the games. Fox much better, that the way I feel about it.

Anyway the Rebels played one great game and beat a good team in TT. Think the SEC a much tougher conference that the Big 12.

  19. Raleighrebel Says:

kylebuddy, you’ve got some weird entries in that listing. Not sure how ECU ENTER the rankings after losing their game to Kentucky, and Ohio State moving up from 10th to 8th if they get beat by Texas. Also, TCU beat Boise State, so I don’t think they’ll drop five spots and Boise stay at #9. Missouri will definitely not move up to anywhere near 10th after being ranked 25th and 23rd (AP, Coach polls). They didn’t beat Northwestern by much (7 points). Michigan State should drop from 19th/18th a few spots after getting beat by Georgia. Not trying to hate on you. Some of those predictons just seemed a little odd.

  20. Rebfan Says:

espn through themselves a lifeline on their pregame look at the game. one reporter picked the REBS because of TT not being chosen in the BCS. The reporter said they will overlook OLE MISS .
The REBS showed the whole college football nation that they are a legit football team . I see OLE MISS at or between #8 & #11 depending if the Gators beat OK.
No matter where they are in the polls they are #1 with me.
Could not have dreamed for a better season.
    GO REBS IN 09.
    CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
