FOOTBALL: No final word on Hardy

Houston Nutt in a text message said that Hardy has not made a decision. He’s in contact with the family. His quote regarding the ESPN report was “Don’t believe it.”

ESPN said that John Jerry was a D-line man…lol

Hardy may yet go to the NFL, it just appears to be a still-fluid situation. The deadline for underclassmen to declare is Thursday.

Nutt might say dont believe it but I still believe he is as good as gone anyway.

Hardy is an excellent defensive player, but his attitude is his downfall. I don’t imagine many NFL teams will put up with his effort, or lack thereof.

ESPN is now reporting that Nutt and Hardy will meet tomorrow and discuss. Nutt will probably say, “Oher decided to stay another year, and now he is projected to go #3 in the draft. And he got to win a great bowl game. Greg, there is predictions that we could be #1 in the West, wouldn’t that be worth staying for. Also, you will be not coming of an injury and be able to put up even more stellar numbers, which means you will go higher and make more after one more year.” At least that is my logic

  6. djrebel Says:

Jakefury, you hit on a good point here with the attitude. Obviously Greg and this coaching staff didn’t hit it off at the beginning when in the spring when he was running second team because they were trying to get his full effort on every play.

Then the foot injury happened. He never did make it up to first team, probably because they knew he was only going to be good for a limited number of plays anyway, and you had guys like Marcus Tillman and Kentrell Lockett busting it in practice and being productive themselves in games.

Here is Tyrone Nix’s response during Cotton Bowl week to the question, “Has it been a challenge to coach Greg Hardy?”

“Oh, there’s no doubt. But youjust try and get the best out of him, to get him focused to understand what we need as a team. But it’s been fun. You can’t cry over spilled milk, and hopefully he’ll finish the season with a bang.”

I think Gregs going to do the opposite of what everyone says. I just get that feeling about him. PA, Any word on the search for a new DL coach? Any chance those guys pull any players over.

  8. djrebel Says:

I haven’t heard anything else on the DL coach. I’m thinking Steve Caldwell would seem like a first choice given his success at Tennessee and his ties to the state of Arkansas. Probably a connection in there somewhere.

See yu later Hardy happy time in the pro’s.

  10. rebel2011 Says:

everyone seems to think that he is definitely gone but I don’t think that could be true because the deadline is 2 days away and he still has not declared. the does not have to make an announcement to me he can just wait until friday to make up his mind!

  11. ColoradoReb Says:

I’ve heard Hardy is not going from someone who talked to him directly, but with Gregg you never know. As for Nix, I hope we can keep him long term. He is a quality coach. Caldwell is my pick also PA.

I would like Hardy to stay, he would really help us. Him and Jerrel Powe rushing at u next year, we could be really good. I say if we keep up our success in football, next year we could have a shot at the Sugar Bowl. I know that that is a ways away, but if u consider our success, plus maybe Houston’s recruits and some games that we could win this year that we lost by like 2 points last year, u cant help but to mention. GO REBELS!!!

  13. JB Says:

“Aim High” as M4 states. Next season’s final game for the Rebs will be in the Championship Game, nothing less.

  14. redstickrebel Says:

Everywhere I read he is a late 1rst to mid 2nd. I think he will take the money and run. If he could learn team concept he would be one of the best with his talent. I hope he realizes he needs a year to grow up and wait till next year. I think Nutt would be good for him.

  15. rpmjr Says:

Hardy vs Tebow, December 5, 2009 in Atlanta, GA.

That’s why Greg should stay one more year.

  16. 03Rebel Says:

Redstick: who has him projected as a 1st rounder? I would leave too if I was projected that high, but I have seen late 2nd and 3rd.

Anyone know how many 1st rounders Ole Miss has produced?
It’s would be impressive to have two #1 picks in 5 years. Who else has done that?

  17. bowlbouncin08 Says:

yea they have hardy projected to be 30th in the nation if he declares for the draft. which what rebel fan wouldnt want him to stick around to help us reach the sec championship game next year.. i dont see him staying but i really hope coach nutt can sit him down and have the one on one talk with him today and encourage him to stay. but with there being no cap on rookies this year in the nfl that would probally steer me to go ahead and go… his stock is really good for the number of games and action he got being hurt this year…. HOTTY TOTTY!!!

  18. TigerNation Says:

Hardy will be back book it

  19. redstickrebel Says:

It was either CBSsportsline or Todd Mcshay had Hardy as bowlbouncin08 stated at #30 a State fan e-mailed that about two weeks ago.
