HOOPS: LSU game thread

It’s about 12 minutes to tip here.

One of the interesting things this season is to listen to reactions from visiting media who have been coming here for years to the new upper deck press seating.

Of course, most reactions are overwhelmingly negative. The fact of the matter is, however, that courtside seating is here to stay or at least until the first court case that stems from a fan losing it with a referee or a player.

In the meantime, everybody is scrambling with where to put us. Alabama’s the worst where you’re on “risers” that probably rise about two inches. Can’t see a thing.

My only request is an unobstructed line of vision. It’s not too much to ask.

I’m betting it’s an unobstructed sight line upstairs here at Tad Smith. One day I’ll walk up there and check it out. For now, I’m digging the corner baseline, which is where most of the home media sits.

Leave your comments and observations below as the Rebels seek a second straight SEC win.

ole miss game delayed by okla st and baylor game…maybe headed to ot

  2. david Says:

Go rebels…being stuck in big 12 county this is one of my only chances to see them and once again the big 12 ruins my day…

  3. djrebel Says:

Your Ole Miss starters are Murphy Holloway, Malcolm White, Will Bogan, Zach Graham and David Huertas.

I would expect Terrico White to see substantial time off the bench, as he did last game.

  4. djrebel Says:

David are they playing any defense in that game?

  5. david Says:

nope, 1:33 left baylor up 8

  6. david Says:

1 min left, baylor up 10, great they are fouling now

  7. djrebel Says:

SLow start for the Rebels. LSU getting back in transtion, later hitting a 3 against the man defense. Rebels with two turnovers and a badly missed 3 trail 6-0.

  8. djrebel Says:

Rebels go zone and LSU’s Spencer hits a 3 from the key. It’s 10-0 and Andy Kennedy calls time out at 17:56.

  9. david Says:

ok finally about over….wow ok ur down 10 why foul….

  10. djrebel Says:

Rebels down 12-0 now. No energy at all. 4 turnovers. Can’t get off a shot. Nothing at all like the team that beat Arkansas.

  11. david Says:

ok PA its over, now time for the rebels….i’ll let u know how it looks on tv. loooks like a hs game

  12. djrebel Says:

LSU scored on its first five possessions. Now the Rebels have put up 2 straight stops. Still haven’t scored.

  13. david Says:

    wow…pa this is bad

  14. david Says:

nice no call..u pump the guy goes up…u shoot and get the foul

  15. djrebel Says:

Time out at 15:42. Rebels 5 turnovers and 0-for-4 from the floor. LSU 4-for-8 from the floor 2-for-2 from 3 and leads 12-0.

  16. djrebel Says:

TIme out at 14:13. LSU leads 19-2. Last two trips Mitchell stripped Malcolm White to start a fastbreak which he finished on the other end, and LSU’s Temple hit a 3 off a screen.

  17. djrebel Says:

    Time out at 11:45.

Rebels get a 3 by T White and a put-back by Holloway. They trail 21-7 with LSU at the free throw line when play resumes.

  18. djrebel Says:

Rebels getting off some better shots now, but the energy on defense isn’t there. LSU is breaking through halfcourt pressure and getting good looks vs. the zone when it’s forced to set up.

  19. david Says:

annocers are terrible….PA have a good day gotta go play some guiter with the relatives…

  20. djrebel Says:

Time out at 7:51. LSU leads 34-15. Nothing has really happened to alter the momentum. Ole Miss will hit a basket here or there but can’t get off on any kind of run and can’t slow LSU which is shooting 67 percent.

Tigers shoot 48.6 percent for the season, second in the SEC, but their schedule has been heavily criticized. Maybe it’s gotten them more prepared than people thought.

  21. L2 Says:

WOW! Brutal is a kind word. Maybe some fight can come back after half?

  22. djrebel Says:

Imagine how Ole Miss throttled Arkansas early and imagine the reverse. LSU 40-15 at 3:08.

  23. djrebel Says:

Time out at 2:54. LSU has cooled to 51.7 percent. Ole Miss is shooting 29.2 percent, just 1-for-8 behind the arc. Getting hammered on the rebounds, but they’re missing a lot of shots, giving LSU lots of rebounds, while LSU isn’t missing nearly as many shots. LSU 40-15.

  24. djrebel Says:

At the risk of sounding negative, I wonder if this place will empty out very much after the Cotton Bowl presentation.

  25. djrebel Says:

Long standing ovation for the Cotton Bowl presentation. Marshay Green as defensive MVP and Dexter McCluster as offensive MVP were singled out. Green was in attendance, but McCluster was not.

Trophy presentation is over. Block the exits.

    LSU leads 41-18.

  26. djrebel Says:

Time out at 15:30. Rebels still seeking point No. 30, but they’re six points away. Only getting outscored 9-6 this half and trail 50-24.

  27. djrebel Says:

Time out at 11:26. LSU 57-30. Rebels reached 30 at 12:25 on a Terrance Henry drive to the rim.

Terrico White has 14 for Ole Miss. Nobody else has more than 6.

  28. djrebel Says:

Time out at 8:24. LSU 65-34. Many are heading for the exits now.

It is worth nothing that the Rebels have not made it to the free throw line in this game, but they’re playing too poorly for free throws to make the difference.

    — PA

  29. JB Says:

I believe the Ole Tula boys from South Lafayette could beat the Rebels today.

  30. djrebel Says:

Time out at 3:59. LSU leads 75-39, and I will call the Tigers a projected winner.

Terrico White leads Ole Miss with 16 points. Huertas is 2-for-12 and has 6 points. It’s not that they’re smothering him. He’s missed open looks and just hasn’t had a good day.

    6 points for Malcolm White.

The Rebels are shooting their first free throw attempts right now.

  31. JB Says:

Not a good day for the Rebel basketball team. That one is behind you – Move on.

  32. ColoradoReb Says:

Guess AK’s wife problems are effecting his coaching. (LOL). I guess LSU was getting some revenge for getting it handed to them on the football field. These young players are just unsure of themselves and how to get up for big games. There’s always next year as State fans always say.

  33. m4rebs Says:

What a joke. I don’t see how this was the same team that played hard at Florida and beat a pretty good Arkansas team. Maybe this team has hit the wall…..too bad it is only the 3rd game in SEC play. We may have gotten our 1 and only SEC win this year. We looked awful. What was the deal with shooting free throws for the first time at the 3:59 mark in the 2nd Half PA? While watching early on, we were taking it to the basket, but not getting any calls on aggressive play down low, especially the dunk attempt by Terrico White. You can’t blame getting beat by 30 plus points on refing, period. They miss some calls, but come on. We just decided to take the day off. Maybe Kennedy needs to worry about Basketball and not cab drivers and his ole ladies’ bedroom needs.

  34. m4rebs Says:

Colorado, I don’t think the State fans are going to be worried about next year in basketball. They have something to put out on the floor and compete. More than we can say about the bunch we saw today. Embarassing.

  35. ColoradoReb Says:

We don’t always agree M4 but I’ll have to say you hit the nail on the head with this one. I think these boys will pull off a few upsets along, but no NCAA. Talking about State thats what I always hear from State fans is odd statistics that are meaningless and “there’s always next year”.

  36. bigdraws Says:

Why would we say that RB. We’re atop the west once again in basketball. Same place we’ve finished the past two years. And 4 out of the past 6 years. Seeing how we’re filled up with underclassmen and doing this well. I have to say I’m pretty pleased đŸ™‚

  37. bigdraws Says:

“Why would we say that RB.”
    Mean creb.

  38. ColoradoReb Says:

bigdraws, its usually in football that I hear it. I’ll give Moo U credit in baseball and basketball. My best friend is a die hard Moo U fan and everytime they suck in football he comes up with some freak statistic thats not really a statistic. My dad is best friends with ole Buddy Twitty and he says Buddy does the same thing. We just always kinda get a kick out of it. I would also say don’t count your chickens until your eggs hatch as far as finishing atop the SECW or SEC. Its still early yet and you haven’t really proven anything just yet. You must also take into consideration our top three are out. Although, I don’t think AK has recruited big time talent either and State has. I just hope Stanbury can coach em’ if you know what I mean. We’ll get a good picture of how strong State is when they play against OM soon. Good luck to yall in the SEC cause we aint got a chance. I’d rather State win out than someone like LSwho or Bama.

  39. bigdraws Says:

Can’t hardly argue with that. To say we struggle in fb would be an understatement. I think we’ll get a pretty good measure of where we’re at against lsu on the road this week. Can’t believe bama got beat at auburn today. I think Gottfried may finally be on his way out. How can you not win with all those guys?

  40. ColoradoReb Says:

I think the winds of change are blowing in the SEC right now in all aspects of atheletics. I think thats in the favor of Ms schools. However, I don’t think we’ll ever be a dynasty. I went through Baton Rouge a couple of weeks back and just saw what all they had to offer outside of college and to see the money thats thrown around. Its a terrible rule that prospects for OM and State can’t be taken far enough to show em’ what Ms has to offer. That rule was probably made up by Bama.(LOL). Its the golden rule, “he who holds the gold makes all the rules.” Guess we better turn in bigdraws. I don’t want you to be late for church in the a.m.
