HOOPS: Alabama game file

It’s about 40 minutes to tip here. I’m wondering if Matt was able to break free to get out and watch Alma Mater U tonight. Ripley, if you’re not here post a final for me.

John Davis of the Oxford Eagle and I rode over earlier today, and we’re hunkered down at Coleman Coliseum now.

No TV for this one. Leave your thoughts and opinions below.

Ripley, I might need more than a final from you since “lectricity” isn’t as readily available at Alabama as it is in other states in the Union.

Alabama was among the first to introduce court-side seating at basketball games and remains the worst in terms of its media seating.

Tom Morris, my first newspaper boss, told me never to complain about my seat, because my readers wouldn’t care. I don’t think Tom envisioned such a sub-standard arrangement as exists for visitors at Alabama.

I’m debating plugging into an outlet I see several yards away. That could present a safety hazzard, so I’m still thinking on that one.

The internal sound system is not working right now. A gentleman just stood behind the scorer’s table and said something about hands over hearts and America, but I just ignored him to start, figuring he was still wound up about the inauguration and everything.

Turns out he was telling people to stand for the National Anthem.

It’s a strange scene at the moment. Maybe these folks are late-arriving fans, but right now the gym is less than half full … much less.

So if you’re in the neighborhood, good seats are still available.

  3. ColoradoReb Says:

Go ahead and plug away PA. A little shock might help us win the game. There’s no guarantee it’ll work when you get to it.

  4. ColoradoReb Says:

I’ll be right there PA. LOL

  5. djrebel Says:

Rebels are out on the court yet, but Kennedy isn’t. I’m interested to see what the first round of heckling is like for Andy.

  6. djrebel Says:

They’re experimenting with an alternate sound system now. They’ve set up speakers on the floor at the baseline. Kind of makes it sound like Big Al is in the can.

  7. djrebel Says:

DeAundre Cranston, Murphy Holloway, David Huertas and the Whites, Terrico and Malcolm are your Ole Miss starters. No Zach Graham tonight.

  8. djrebel Says:

Bama calls time at 17:33. Ole Miss leads 9-2. Seven points for Huertas, two on a long jumper for Graham, who did start. Holloway did not.

  9. djrebel Says:

Time out 15:37. Bama has the ball when play resumes. Rebels lead 14-6. 11 points for Huertas. Ole Miss has played zone from the beginning. No man defense yet.

  10. djrebel Says:

Bama’s getting inside the zone and bit and getting to the FT line. They’re not hitting all the FTs though. Ole Miss 16-10 at 14:10.

  11. ColoradoReb Says:

How can you suck so bad one game and come out like this the next? I guess its the youth.

  12. djrebel Says:

Murphy Holloway just picked up his second quick foul. It was legit. The first one was a cheapy on a free throw rebound.

Time out at 11:58. Ole Miss leads 19-14, and Alabama has possession when play resumes.

  13. djrebel Says:

Team fouls are 5-2 with Rebels leading. Bama will be in the bonus shortly.

  14. djrebel Says:

Rebels shooting has chilled. Turning it over a bit now. Tide has hit 3s on 2 of last three trips and has a chance to take the lead now. Rebels up 21-20 at 9:35.

  15. djrebel Says:

Malcolm White was just called for a foul away from the ball, the Rebels’ eighth. Bama’s in the bonus with time to reach the double bonus.

The Tide went on a 9-2 run to tie it at 21 but Huertas hit a 3 — he’s got 14 points now — and the Rebels lead 24-21 with a time outat 7:54.

Bama at the line when play resumes.

  16. djrebel Says:

Bama leads 26-25 and is at the line, now in the double bonus after Terrance Henry commits the 10th foul. Bama’s Green hits one free throw and the Tide leads 27-25 at 6:38.

  17. djrebel Says:

Contact with Terrico White on a 3 but no foul. Tide gets the loose ball in transition and scores on the other end, Huertas fouls on the break.

It’s 31-all at 3:29. Bama’s at the free throw line when play resumes.

  18. djrebel Says:

Rebels in the bonus at 2:36. Trailing 34-33.

  19. ripleyreb Says:

I’m here PA, will post a final.

  20. djrebel Says:

Time out at 36.4. Rebels trail 39-35 and can get off close to a last shot.

  21. djrebel Says:

T White dribbles until 10 seconds left, then Huertas gets off a 3 off a screen. He’s got 20, and the Rebels trail 39-38 at the half.

What I haven’t heard is any heckling of Kennedy.

  22. farley662 Says:

Daveeeeeeed has 20 of the 38? Man, he must be on fire.

  23. farley662 Says:

They are not a basketball school PA. They don’t care because they are not winning right now.

  24. djrebel Says:

It’s a nice game for Huertas, who hasn’t shot it like this in the SEC yet. He’s the only thing working right now.

  25. djrebel Says:

Fast start for Bama in the second half. Malcolm White picks up his third foul, a cheapie, at 19:47. Tide’s Gee anticipates a pass from Huertas, makes the steal and dunks at the other end.

A quick 5-0 burst. Tide leads 43-38 and Kennedy calls time out at 19:04.

  26. djrebel Says:

TIme out Ole Miss at 16:03. Two 3s for Cranston from the same spot, just right of the key. Rebels lead 48-46.

  27. djrebel Says:

Time out at 15:24. Rebels lead 50-46 after Malcolm White hits a 17-footer. Rebels have four team fouls to Bama’s 1.

  28. djrebel Says:

Bama on an 18-6 run has built it’s biggest lead at 64-56. Gee is starting to take over for the Tide. Ole Miss is playing more man this half and it doesn’t appear to be working at this point. Rebels are turning it over a lot too.

  29. djrebel Says:

24 points for Huertas right now, 9 for Graham.

  30. bigdraws Says:

We’re getting it handed to us in BR if that makes yall feel any better.

  31. djrebel Says:

Time out at 7:34. Bama leads 68-61. Ole Miss with possession when play resumes.

  32. djrebel Says:

A couple of good defensive trips for the Rebels and a 3 by Terrico. Bama leads 70-67 at 3:57. Rebels with the ball when play resumes.

  33. ripleyreb Says:

Draws, I saw LSU saturday and if it makes you feel any better LSU looks really good..

  34. djrebel Says:

Time out at 1:34. Bama 74-71. Ole Miss with ball when play resumes.

  35. djrebel Says:

Time out Ole Miss 37.5. Bama leads 74-73. Rebels just got a stop forcing Hillman into an air ball with the shot clock running down. Rebels with possession when play resumes.

  36. ColoradoReb Says:

The State game looks pretty ugly. I guess LSwho has something.

  37. djrebel Says:

Looks like Bama will win. Rebels had two great chances to take the lead but Graham missed in the lane when his driving shot circled in and out. Then after Gee missed the front end of a 1-and-1, Rebels had the last shot. Terrico missed on a drive, Holloway got the rebound but missed again.

Bama at the free throw line with 2.1 left and leading 74-73.

  38. me Says:

    dang layups. painful.

  39. ColoradoReb Says:

  43. ColoradoReb Says:

    dang it

  44. ripleyreb Says:

Good game, we will get them at The Pad.

  45. ColoradoReb Says:

State almost got beat as bad as we did

  46. L2 Says:

Great effort to come back tonight and play this way. Where would this team be without the injury bug? Tough loss!

  47. bigdraws Says:

LOL, at least we weren’t at home creb. Thornton couldnt miss. I’d be surprised if we even beat them at home.

  48. bigdraws Says:

Long season though. LSU could be peaking too early. Ah who am I kidding. They are head and shoulders above the rest of the west.

  49. JB Says:

Not bad for the Rebs – they competed and with three starters short.

  50. bigdraws Says:

Yeah, yall were looking very promising at the beginning of the season. Just like we did before the Brian Johnson injury. Both teams are young right now and will be fighting each other for the west title in the years to come. I think mark gottfried is living on borrowed time.

  51. m4rebs Says:

Didn’t make it out to Coleman, which I ALWAYS try to support Ole Miss teams when they’ve come to my backyard in both Tuscaloosa and Baton Rouge. These kids are a little challenging at times on working in the Ole Miss schedule. Sorry PA. I haven’t forgotten you and the BBQ offer I made a few years ago.

  52. bigdraws Says:

Matt, I’ll be at Coleman in February. Come join me as the dawgs come in to make it 6 in a row over those scoundrels.

  53. m4rebs Says:

Is it a Saturday? I may can.
