HOOPS: About last night

Looks like somebody at the Rivals national desk was having a little sympathy for the Rebels and their injury plight last night.

Check out this box score. It shows nice minutes from both Trevor Gaskins and Eniel Polynice in last night’s 82-71 loss at South Carolina.

The official box score shows no such thing.

From the “What’s next” department, add Terrico White to the injury list after tweaking his knee last night. He played through some of the pain, but the injury no doubt limits his explosiveness, and the extent of the injury is presently unknown.

Zach Graham is playing through a tear of his patella tendon, just playing in games, not practicing.

I thought there was nice effort in the first half last night, but South Carolina was clearly quicker, and that paid off for the Gamecocks in the second half.

In the first half the Rebels were hitting some tough shots, not necessarily getting good looks, and they were unable to keep up that pace.

David Huertas finished with 27 points but was just 3-for-11 behind the arc. He missed some good looks in the first half and was unable to hit a 3-pointer when the game was still in question.

Next up is Kentucky Tuesday night.

PA, I guess good weekend help is hard to get. Not only did Rivals have a slip, so did the D. Journal. In one of the photos of the SC game, it shows DeAundre Cranston on a rebound attempt, but the AP gives the credit to Michael Halford. Halford hasn’t been on floor yet this season. I get the early edition way up north in Ripley, maybe it was correct in the final edition?

Ripley, our guys generally do a good job of catching things between editions, but I doubt that was caught. I’ll check, but it sounds like that might have been the name on the AP cutline that comes with the photo.

I generally don’t call out the mistakes of other journalists, but I thought it was ironic that the box score had both Gaskins and Polynice playing. Many Ole Miss people wish it were true.

PA, not knocking the journal guys. I know they can’t catch all of AP mistakes. Y’all do a great job. I couldn’t make through the mornings if I didn’t have the D Journal to go along with my morning coffee. Any word on Terrico White? He looked to be in a lot of pain after his injury last night. Hope he is OK.

Checking on Terrico today. No word yet.

I thought the Rebs played with hustle in the last half, got the shots but they would not go down. 8 min into the second half until they made a field goal and by that time the “Red Rooster” and a 24-2 run. Still like the hustle of the Rebs, they did not quit.

Looks like the Kentucky Kittens, Florida Reptile, and Miss State Belles are the hot ones at this stage of the season in SEC play.
