FYI: Signing Day Agenda

I’ll get my three miles in at the Wellness Center but should be online at Ole Miss by 10 a.m. In the past I’ve had a chat session around the middle of the day, but we’ll do it differently this year.

I’ll have updates and signings as I know about them. Since I’ll be online most of the day, I’ll set up a Signing Day thread and post updates there. That is where I’ll leave comments and answer questions as well. I’ll be checking the thread frequently throughout the day.

We’ll have updates and complete Signing Day coverage at djournal.com as well.

Maybe you could start with asking Coach Nutt about how, Patterson’s daddy is out running his mouth about what coach Nutt is doing for his son. Said he gave him $5k not to visit State last weekend. Offered his girlfriend a scholarship if he’d come to Om. And told him there would be more cash to come.

  2. Matthew Says:

Man I was worried patterson was one who saw $$ instead of a sincere desire to attend a school. Maybe I’m naive but I’d rather lose than pony up $$.

  3. bigdraws Says:

Ok, so how’s that different than anything Sherrill did? Since that’s what yall always like to bring up. Cheating, right?

  4. m4rebs Says:

Draws, you guys can’t make us some stuff over there on those Six-pack boards. Don’t believe everything you read.

  5. rebel2011 Says:

haha draws trying to start all kinds of rumors to get eveerything stirred up. you aren’t jealous are ya man?

  6. jr85reb Says:

I guess they also offered his Dad a job watering VH field.

  7. GotoHellLSU Says:

Sherrill got MSU to their “glory” year (top 20? final poll), but was found GUILTY by the NCAA. Oops, so Coon was given a slap on the wrist with a post-season ban, as if they were going anywhere. Are you comparing the “glory year” cheating ruling to a rumor that someone told someone? Really? Sorry, but it won’t get your glory year cleared.

  8. bigdraws Says:

Didn’t read it anywhere. Know a guy who works with his dad. Says he’s running his mouth to anyone who will listen. I don’t care if you believe it or not. it’s true though.

  9. jr85reb Says:

Now that sounds like an ironclad reliable source.

  10. bigdraws Says:

    It is to me.

  11. bigdraws Says:

Couldn’t be true, right? Surely great ole nutt wouldn’t do such a backhanded thing.

  12. farley662 Says:

Nutt offered me $300 to make Aedan an OM fan so he could mooch off his popularity.

  13. bigdraws Says:

No telling what AK offered that policeman after the camera turned off. Did that look like lipstick he had on in the mugshot?

  14. rebel2011 Says:

its too hard to pay people in this business. its way too easy for it to get out for coaches to do that. also, Patterson cancelled his visit to Tennessee and then said that he was probably going to MSU instead. then about 30 minutes later he said he changed his mind and was not going. I dont think that Nutt would have found out and called him and changed his mind all within 30 minutes. Because if Nutt didn’t want him visiting, then he would have paid him not to go to Tenn. and he didnt because if he had been paid, then he would not have scheduled a visit to MSU right afterwards. I am sorry but the pieces don’t add up.

  15. farley662 Says:

It was after your boy Yancy called him twice in an hour when he decided not to go. I’m sure that Nutt had to climb up the poll to crank the phone up right?

  16. bigdraws Says:

Nice timeline you’ve got there. Don’t worry though. I doubt you’ll get caught. Msu isn’t low enough to send a ho down there to convince an ncaa investigator to dig things up on ya. And if you believe folks are getting paid then you are hillarious.

  17. jr85reb Says:

Hard to get caught when you have not done anything wrong.

  18. bigdraws Says:

Come jr. This is the alma mater of dickey scruggs we’re talking about.

  19. RoastBeef1 Says:

Every school pays recruits. And if the schools don’t do it, then the boosters will.

  20. bigdraws Says:

    exactemundo!!!!

  21. Josh Says:

Matthew, you are naive. Anyone who seriously believes that a large, very large, majority of college athletic programs don’t offer kids “incentives” to come to their college is naive. I’m not saying it makes it right but it happens everywhere. It’s been the name of the game for a long time.

And that’s not to say that this particular rumor is or is not true. This friend of a friend of a co-worker who knows a guy may be an incredibly reliable source. And then again it could be a bunch of jibberish like 90% of the stuff about the Kennedy story.

  22. RoastBeef1 Says:

I knew a guy who was a decent recruit last year. One night I ran into him and asked him how much the school he committed to was paying him. The guy literally freaked out and said he couldn’t talk about it. Now of course I don’t know if the school actually gave him a thing, but his reaction led me to believe they did. He wasn’t even a big time recruit like Patterson is. I wouldn’t be surprised if every school that Patterson has talked with has given him some good “hand shakes”.

  23. Ackermanrebel Says:

I worked with dezenzo millers granddad during his recruitment he ran his mouth all the time about what he got, He was going to om but went to bb game at state on wed night before signing day ha good payday at that game according to granddad.Signed with state.

  24. Josh Says:

I went to school w/ Dontae Walker. His senior year he started driving a brand new Lexus. He said it was his aunt’s car (she’s obviously a very sweet lady for letting him drive it around all the time). She was also obviously very proud of him because “her” license plates said Tae #3. When I asked him about it, he just smiled.

  25. rebel2011 Says:

we know about all the stuff that Sherrill did so thats no surprise

  26. Josh Says:

It happened at Ole Miss too…plenty. Personally I’m not against it. I know there are rules and they are certainly violating them, but I don’t care if they give these kids gifts. They make an incredible amount of money for their schools…and coaches.

  27. doubletripper Says:

i had a third cousin who was blind in one eye and thought he was a rhode island red rooster who said that state gave patterson $400 dollars and a pair of wonder woman underware to come to state. but i think he is holding out for the wonder bra as well.

  28. farley662 Says:

The point is they all do it 2011. Everyone. I’m sure Mullen is out throwing cash around right now. So is Nutt. I’ve seen on more than one occasion at OM baseball games the players get $100 hand shakes. It’s just a matter of being smart enough to not get caught and have your players keep their mouth shut.

  29. bigdraws Says:

    Or their daddy’s.

  30. ColoradoReb Says:

One thing is for sure 2011 is the only person on here that would really know. Everything he says is backed up with facts even more than me. If you have any legit info of a recruit being paid I suggest you call the NCAA at 317-917-6222 to report it or otherwise shut up. I don’t think recruits are paid but I do think they get a little special treatment with studies and what not. Maybe even a promise of a better job for their mom or baby momma. The money is too easily traced just ask Scruggs and Co. OM has a lot to offer right now with facilities and a great proven coach. I know for darn sure Mike Bianco wouldn’t pay anybody anything. The man is solid! Nutt doesn’t have anything in his past either and it surely would have showed up by now. Kennedy hasn’t had the greatest classes so I think we can safely eliminate him. I think recruits should be allowed a certain amount of money within the rules. When you look at what the coaches and the schools get its not fair the people who do all the work get nothing, but of course this is true with everything in this country, right?

  31. farley662 Says:

So basically you are saying he is a know it all blowhard we should all just ignore then?

  32. jr85reb Says:

Once again farley, you have summed it all up in one sentence.

  33. bigdraws Says:

    “I don’t think recruits are paid ”

de-bunks anything you were about to say.

  34. bigdraws Says:

“The money is too easily traced just ask Scruggs and Co”

I think the judge rolling over on him may be the thing that got him caught. Call me crazy.

  35. amsteffe Says:

PA – I know this conversation doesn’t even warrant a response, its a bunch of people blowing smoke because they nothing better to do. I was wondering what you thought though? Not about Patterson, but about the NCAA…Do you think players receive bonuses on a regular basis? Does a certain program raise questions for you?

Besides USC of course…(Southern Cal that is)

  36. ColoradoReb Says:

I’ll say this for State as well; Greg Byrne is not a crook. State can be proud of that for sure. If he knew someone was being paid he would kick them to the curb quick. Greg is a distant cousin of mine, we are realted by our great great great grandfathers (brothers) who fought in the civil war together. Pete Boone is so uptight he would stroke out if everybody didn’t follow the rules to a T. Your big boys like Bama, LSwho, and Auburn is who I think would pay someone in a heart beat. Look at the success of OM and State, if they are paying someone it sure isn’t taking them to a Natl Championship.

  37. bigdraws Says:

    And one more thing….

985: But shortly for to speken of this thyng,
986: With creon, which that was of thebes kyng,

  38. ColoradoReb Says:

We all know Bear was known for paying players. He commanded so much authority the damn refs were afraid of him. My dad said if the refs made what Bear thought was a bad call they’d change the call or not be working the next week. If State and OM were in the SEC Championship game every other year I’d think maybe we were paying someone, but heck OM and State both are hit and miss. I often wondered about O but he was a hard nose recruiter.

  39. ColoradoReb Says:

Its sad to know all you State folks don’t have anything to talk about on your blog so you have to come over here and make up false rumors. In reality you too want to be an OLE MISS REBEL.

  40. bigdraws Says:

Don’t feel sad for me Creb. I’ve got a smile on my face as big as Enzyte Bob’s……..Sorry Andy.

  41. ripleyreb Says:

“954: Hym thoughte that his herte wolde breke,”
This describes a lot of fans come Wednesday morning.

  42. Matthew Says:

Josh I didn’t say I didn’t believe it didn’t happen. The reason I said I was naive was b/c I would rather take a Loss than pay up the cash. I mean Vandy went to a bowl game and won last year do we infer they pony up $$? Like I said, I know it happens I just would rather lose the players who want cash and get honest ones. Look @ DT Shackelford, there are great people out there that you can win w/. I’m so glad we got that kid.

  43. JB Says:

    “The Knight’s Tale”

Man! Draws, I didn’t know that an ole country boy as you was into all that stuff. Dem som werd looking folks back then. Us ole Tula boys never even heard of all this.

I wander off down to the beach today to get a sun tan and this site explodes.

  44. Tyler-for-Heisman Says:

This is kinda off point, but Dontae Walker tried to pay me to right a history paper for him my freshman year at State. He didn’t even know me.

And many of you may remember Toby Goliday (DT #94) that played for State towrads the end of Sherril’s tenure. I went to High school and played football with him. I wonder how a kid that was in Right track (SpEd) ever got into a 4 year college like MSU.

  45. Josh Says:

Matthew, didn’t mean that as a direct attack. However, it does happen and yes, I’m willing to bet it happens at Vandy too. I was very close to someone who was involved in college football for a long time who said it happens everywhere, but you don’t find out about it until someone gets in trouble.

That being said, I definitely don’t blame the players. They didn’t start this game. Boosters began offering these 17 and 18 year olds money to come to their school and play a game. Take a poor kid from Morton Mississippi and offer him a new car to come play football, what do you think he’s gonna do? And can you really blame him? If everyone is offering, why would he think he’s doing something wrong by accepting.

  46. colreb420 Says:

tyler, maybe at state they right papers! at ole miss we like to write them.
    good story though.

  47. Tyler-for-Heisman Says:

Sorry, my mistake. I did graduate from Ole Miss, though.

  48. colreb420 Says:

    LOL

  49. Tyler-for-Heisman Says:

I feel like today is christmas eve. Not quite sure what were gonna get but pretty sure were gonna be happy.

  50. Josh Says:

I have a good feeling too. It’s amazing what a great run to end the season can do for recruiting.

  51. Jeff Jolly Says:

I just wonder if any of you talking about Patterson’s daddy even knows what he does for a living. I do…I’m originally from Noxubee County. He’s the offensive coordinator for the Tigers.

  52. Jeff Jolly Says:

And by the way….I feel like it’s Christmas Eve too. Can’t wait for tomorrow morning. The Rebels have lined up a great recruiting class.

  53. rebelfan38652 Says:

I will have only ESPN radio to depend on for info. I wont know anything till I get off work tommorrow. Ugh! Would someone be willing to text me with updates?

  54. bigdraws Says:

“I just wonder if any of you talking about Patterson’s daddy even knows what he does for a living.”

Yep, another coach is the one who said it.

  55. Jeff Jolly Says:

As I said last year…..state fans know more about Ole Miss recruiting….than anyone.

  56. JB Says:

Congrat to Miss State and to their fans on the win tonight over the Cats.

  57. CoastalReb Says:

I work with an ex-MSU assistant coach. He says that everyone gets paid, period, otherwise you won’t get them.

  58. bigdraws Says:

Don’t be so bitter Jeff. Good luck to yall tomorrow. Looks like both schools will have good classes.

  59. CoastalReb Says:

rebelfan38652 – you can sign up for text message updates at clarionledger.com

  60. Jeff Jolly Says:

    I’m not bitter draws….I think it’s funny.

Good luck to you all. I really don’t think we’re going after many of the same players.

  61. Josh Says:

Rebelfan…the clarionledger.com is sending out text messages alerting of signings as they happen. I’m not sure if they’ve done it in the past or how expedient it will be, but it’s a good alternative if you can’t get your info from PA.

Sorry for directing readers to a another source PA. I’m sure we’re all aware of where to get the best, most reliable, and most up to date Ole Miss sports info.

  62. Bryan Says:

Hey draws its all about 45-0

  63. bigdraws Says:

    Or $5k.

  64. bigdraws Says:

BTW, another fantastic Om role model in the news.
