BASEBALL: Rebels fall again

This from Ole Miss media relations.

— PA

MOBILE, Ala. – The Rebels managed 11 hits and a rally to
force extra innings, but it wasn’t enough as South Alabama
(2-2) came up with a bases loaded single in the 10th to
defeat No. 6 Ole Miss (1-2) by a score of 3-2 on Sunday at
the Coca Cola Classic.

Scott Bittle (0-1) suffered the loss as he gave up the
game-winning hit in the 10th. Bittle struck out five and
walked three while allowing only the one run on three hits
in 2.1 innings. The hit from Sean Laird in the 10th proved
to be a big one as he took a 2-2 pitch with the bases loaded
and sent it back up the middle to record the game-winning
run. Starter Phillip Irwin worked 5.0 innings and allowed
two runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.

Greg Johnson (1-1) picked up the win in relief for the
Jaguars as he worked 2.0 innings and held the Rebels
scoreless and limited them to only one hit in his time on
the mound. Starter Lance Baxter worked 6.2 innings and
allowed nine hits, but only one run.
“It was a tough day offensively,” said Ole Miss head
coach Mike Bianco. “We couldn’t string the hits
together. We had some opportunities and just couldn’t get
the guy home. Runs were at a premium today, and when that is
the case you have got to do more. South Alabama played
tremendously defensively and deserved the win.”

Get those loses out of the way early in the season. Now prepare for a long winning season and a trip to Omaha.

A taxi cab driver got a call to pick up someone from the
airport. When he got there, he was surprised to see a nun
waiting for the taxi. As she climbed into the car and gave
the driver the address, the driver noticed how beautiful she
was. As he drove on, he kept looking into his rear-view
mirror at her. The nun couldn’t help but notice him looking
at her. Finally, the cab driver said, “You know, Sister, I
    think you’re really quite beautiful.”

    “Well, thank you,” she answered.

The driver went on, “I’ve always had a fantasy of kissing a

“Really?” she asked. “Well, then, pull over.” The driver did
so. Then the nun asked him a few questions. “Are you
    married?” she asked.

    “No,” said the driver.

    “Are you Catholic?”

    “Yes,” the man nodded.

“Well, all right then,” she said and stepped out of the car
and gave him a big kiss on the lips.

The driver felt so ashamed that he decided to tell her the
truth. “Sister, I have to tell you the truth: I AM married
    and I’m NOT Catholic.”

“That’s okay,” smiled the nun. “My name’s Henry and I’m
    going to a Halloween party!”

Man, tough weekend for the Diamond Rebs. I think Bianco knew we were ranked WAY too high coming into this season from his comments at the Auburn Basketball game a couple of weeks ago. We may improve, but we aren’t a top 10 team right now. Keep working on it Rebs. We need some success this season, especially with the early season hype.

  4. kylebuddy Says:

I hope that we can rally and get back to good Rebel baseball. Bianco has never been a quiter or a loser.

  5. kylebuddy Says:

bianco can and will get the rebels back on track.

Although I would have preferred 3 wins, maybe we can have the opposite results from last season when we peaked at the beginning and then went downhill after that. Because its a long long season and you dont want to be firing on all cylinders too soon

  7. bigdraws Says:

The club is still trying to define itself this year. I wouldn’t worry. The man knows what he’s doing. Dawgs have S Alabama coming up. We were lucky to come out a winner today ourselves. Good luck this week Rebels.

  8. bigdraws Says:

Question. What station can I pick up the Rebels baseball games in Tupelo before sec play starts?

  9. rebel2011 Says:

draws, its on 105.5 in oxford so i ass

  10. cr Says:

Wasn’t able to keep up with baseball. Are we still struggling to throw strikes causing our defense to struggle? Do we still swing at too many first pitches and place no value on walks offensively?

  11. rebel2011 Says:

really sorry about that guys i was trying to enter the post on my phone and accidentally hit submit but I was trying to say that the games are on 105.5 in oxford so I assume you can get that in tupelo.

Reminds me of Wright State last year. I hope this is a wake up call.

  13. jrreb Says:

Does that count on our record or were those preseason games?

  14. m4rebs Says:

    They count.

  16. bigdraws Says:
