HOOPS: Van’s return

The Ole Miss and LSU women tip off in about eight minutes. It’s Van Chancellor’s first game here as an opposing coach. His much more talented LSU team won handily in Baton Rouge last year. These two teams should be more evenly matched. I’ll post an update or two below.

HALFTIME: LSU 28, Ole Miss 22.

Lady Rebels lucky to be this close while shooting just 25.9 percent.

Ole Miss zone has confused LSU at times. Lady Tigers went seven straight trips without a bucket, then managed to find a few open looks. LSU is shooting 34.4 percent.

LSU has six steals, and Ole Miss has turned it over 10 times. Kayla Melson leads Ole Miss with eight points.

Rebels can’t get the big guns — center Shawn Goff and guard Bianca Thomas — going. Goff is 1-for-9 from the floor and Thomas is 1-for-4.

FINAL: LSU 59, Ole Miss 48

Lady Tigers swarm the Rebels’ two best players. Thomas finishes 0-for-1 from 3-point range. She began the day fifth in the SEC in makes and sixth in accuracy.

Goff was 3-for-17 from the floor in her final home game.
