FOOTBALL: Schedule update

Spoke with Pete Boone a minute ago. The proposed football game against Idaho, the elusive 12th game on the 2009 schedule, has fallen through. Boone expects to have a schedule finalized next week with a 12th game against a Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) opponent.

Pete Boone is a joke. This is embarrassing.

  2. Matthew Says:

Couldn’t they get a new Div I team like West. Ky.? That would be a cheap one game buy.

Pitiful. This could really hurt our season, big time. Not saying we are even going to be in the hunt, but it could cost a shot at a BCS bowl game based on strength of schedule, not to mention another 25K attendence game on the season. We’ll never get the North endzone enclosed while Boone is scheduling football games. You got to beat the man, to be the man.

Matthew, the problem is who’s available? Schedules are set, and Ole Miss isn’t going to pay more than the market average. Somebody like Western Kentucky isn’t going to break a contract with someone else to play Ole Miss. The options are limited at this time.

This will definitely hurt at the end of the year if OM is trying to get an at large BCS bid or a big time bowl game.

IF “big if” it comes down to the end of the year and we aren’t in a MAJOR BCS game because of strength of schedule, We should call for Pete’s head on a stick.

PA – I have to disagree with you even remotely defending Boone. We should have had the 2009 schedule set at least 2 years ago. No two ways around it.

  8. JB Says:

Regardless of the schedule, Ole Miss went 9-4 last season. Three of those loses were at their expense. So forget about BCS consideration until the Rebs can show strength by winning the game on schedule. Who out there can do a better job than Mr. Boone, please come forth with your resumes.

Alfred, sometimes these schedules are made in advance and something happens on the other end to affect a game. Don’t know if that applies here. I do know part of this delay has been in waiting on ESPN to hammer out details for the Thursday game at South Carolina, another part of the delay was getting close to a deal with TCU, then TCU bailing out. There’s no doubt the administration could have done some things differently, but there have been some different circumstances.

Idaho is just another easy one… What happened to us playing Texas?? I think we will be ok… LOOK we went 9-4 last year, we went to a pretty good bowl, why does it matter… In some polls we are ranked 14, 15, 16 for the preseason… just be thankful for the good work that has been done… don’t worry about the games as long as we’re winning…. give Nutt a raise again where he’ll stay around for awhile!!!!!!!!
