  1. djrebel Says:

Speaking of the wounded, MSU reserve center Elgin Bailey, Jarvis Varnado’s backup, is sitting over on the side with his foot in a cast propped up.

Varnado will alter and block shots, but the Ole Miss coaches believe they can get to the offensive glass when blocking a shot takes him out of the position, and the remainder of the MSU frontline is pretty small.

    We’ll see.

  2. djrebel Says:

Your Ole Miss starters are Malcolm White, Zach Graham, Ryan Brown (senior day), Patrick Spach (senior day) and Terrico White. Wonder who will run the point.

  3. djrebel Says:

Holloway and Henry coming in at the 19:14 mark. No Huertas yet.

  4. djrebel Says:

They ran a play for Spach on the first possession and he almost hit a 3.

  5. djrebel Says:

Time out at 15:02. Ole Miss leads 11-8. Varnado is wearing out White on State’s offensive end, has 6 of Dogs 8. Zach Graham won’t let Ravern Johnson get off a 3, though Johnson scored the other 2 points on a fast break.

Huertas getting ready to enter the game. Holloway just scored off a nifty pass inside from Graham, drew Varnado’s first foul, and will be at the free throw line when play resumes.

  6. djrebel Says:

Tech on Stansbury for arguing a call against Bost. Huertas hits 1 of 2 free throws. Ole Miss leads 15-8. Rick’s still yelling.

  7. Jay Stokes Says:

PA, how’s the crowd in there?

  8. djrebel Says:

TIme at 11:49. Ole Miss 18, MSU 11. Ole Miss shooting 6-for-9, MSU shooting 4-for-11. Rebels have an 8-3 edge on the boards.

Huertas has a 3-point play but has not attempted a 3. Terrico White leads Ole Miss with five points.

Dogs can’t get Johnson loose. He has 4 points, two from the free throw line. Has not attempted a 3. He’s the SEC’s leader in 3-point percentage at 42.5.

  9. djrebel Says:

Jay, the crowd is good. It’s pretty full.

  10. djrebel Says:

David’s looking rusty. COuple of turnovers to go with his four points. You can tell he’s pressing.

  11. djrebel Says:

Rebels not getting good looks right now. State has scored on 4 straight trips. Ole Miss time out with Rebels lead 21-20 at 9:13.

  12. djrebel Says:

Time at 7:34. Ole Miss 23-20. Graham at the free throw line when play resumes. Terrico just missed the front end of a 1-and-1. Rebels are in the bonus and have a chance to make hay at the free throw line. They’re 6-of-9 from the FT line right now.

  13. djrebel Says:

Time at 3:55. Ole Miss 35-33. Both teams shooting well right now. Huertas hit back to back 3s, but Dogs’ Stewart answered on each trip. Terrico drove through a man defense to the rim, but fouled on the other end when Stewart took it to the rim. State’s gotten off some good looks recently when Ole Miss didn’t set up quick enough in the zone, and the MSU players found a crease and drove it hard.

  14. djrebel Says:

Ravern Johnson has attempted just 1 3 and missed it, but Stewart is 3-for-4 from the arc with 11 points.

  15. djrebel Says:

State’s up 39-36 at 2:37. Johnson just hit his first 3. Dogs have momentum at the moment.

  16. djrebel Says:

Dogs lead 41-39 at 1:28. 33 free throws shot combined.

  17. djrebel Says:

Long air ball 3 by Huertas. He’s pressing still. Dogs have possession and call a 30-second TO at 1:07. State leads 41-39.

  18. djrebel Says:

42-42 at half. Graham hits a 3 with 17.2 seconds left, and State’s Beckham bricks a 3 at the buzzer.

State has righted its ship on the glass. Rebels had a big edge early there, now has 16 rebounds to State’s 15.

Zach Graham has 11 for Ole Miss. Malcolm White and Huertas have 10 each.

White is 4-for-4 from the floor, most of it jumpers on the edge of the lane.

Huertas is 2-for-6 from 3, not terrible, but his misses have been ugly.

Barry Stewart heated up late for State and has 14. Ravern Johnson has 7, 1-for-2 from 3.

Graham has done a good job on Johnson.

Varnado has six points, all of them early.

Bost and Beckham have 2 fouls for MSU.

Holloway, Henry and Cranston have 2 fouls for Ole Miss.

  19. djrebel Says:

    46-all at 17:20.

  20. djrebel Says:

M White scores at 16:48 and Stewart picks up his fourth foul. Malcolm at the FT line is good. Ole Miss 49-48.

  21. Jay Stokes Says:

    mac’s in beast mode today

  22. djrebel Says:

Time out MSU at 16:16. Holloway just tipped in a miss by Terrico. Possession set up because Malcolm White grabbed a lob pass intended for Varnado. Ole Miss leads 51-48. Malcolm has 17, 6-for-6 from the floor, 5-for-5 from FT line. Terrico has 7 points, 2-for-7 from floor, 1-for-5 from 3.

  23. djrebel Says:

David is not in the Ole Miss huddle in this time out, but is sitting on the bench with a towel over his legs. Don’t know if that’s pain from the foot or attitude.

  24. djrebel Says:

Time out at 15:56. Terrico just picked up his third foul on a loose ball. Ole Miss 51-48, MSU ball when play resumes.

  25. djrebel Says:

Jay, Mac gets in grooves like this. He’s just not an in-the-paint guy on offense, but today his jump shots are falling. Good thing, because Terrico’s are not.

  26. djrebel Says:

Bogan in for Terrico at 15:56

  27. djrebel Says:

Varnado just picked up his fourth foul at 15:29 on an offensive board by White.

  28. djrebel Says:

Neither team gaining traction right now. Lots of fouls. Ole Miss 54-53.

  29. djrebel Says:

Terrico back at 12:44. Ole Miss 56-55.

  30. djrebel Says:

Team fouls are 8-4 with Ole Miss leading. Augustus just hit a pair and State is up 57-56.

  31. djrebel Says:

Time at 11:31. Terrico just hit a 3. Rebels got a stop, and Brian Johnson fouled Malcolm White. Rebels lead 61-57. Attendance was just announced at 9,030.

  32. djrebel Says:

    Rebels 65-62 at 8:16.

  33. djrebel Says:

Time at 7:55. Bost just drove by Bogan, scored and drew a foul from Cranston, his fourth. Ole Miss 65-64 and Bost is at the free throw line when play resumes.

    Haven’t seen Huertas in a while. I’m guessing it’s a foot issue.

  34. djrebel Says:

Yep, Huertas is at the end of the bench his ice on his foot.

  35. djrebel Says:

Stewart back int he game and just hit a 3. State leads 68-65. I’m guessing Ole Miss doesn’t win without a few more big plays from Terrico White. Malcolm has cooled off a little.

  36. djrebel Says:

Time out Ole Miss at 6:25. Back to back 3s for State, this one by Turner, and the Dogs have opened up their biggest lead at 71-66.

  37. djrebel Says:

State has scored on five of its last 6 trips. Rebels missing Free throws.

  38. djrebel Says:

Varnado is back in. The 4 foul guys are likely in it the rest of the way.

  39. djrebel Says:

Time MSU at 3:13. Dogs lead 71-69. Terrico is now 2-for-9 from 3 after taking one from the key on Ole Miss’ last trip. Terrico’s struggling, and No Huertas. It’s going to have to come from someone else if Ole Miss is going to win … unless Terrico shows the gear he’s shown many times this year.

  40. djrebel Says:

State is milking the clock, spreading the floor. The things the Rebels do when they’re on. Augustus scores in the lane with the shot clock down low. Dogs lead 75-69 and Ole Miss calls time at 1:51. On the previous possession, the Rebels got some nice defense, a missed 3, but Varnado chased down the rebound and scored.

  41. djrebel Says:

Time at 1:37. Dogs 75-69. T White at the free throw line when play resumes.

  42. djrebel Says:

Bost hits a pair as Terrico picks up his fourth foul. Dogs lead 77-71 at 1:16.

  43. djrebel Says:

Terrico hits 2 of 3to make it 78-75 at 43.6. MSU at the free throw line.

  44. djrebel Says:

Benock hits a pair and MSU leads by 4 at 21.6.

  45. djrebel Says:

TIme at 21.6. MSU 81-77. I’m going to project MSU the winner here. Terrico is 2-for-9 from 3. Bost has played good defense, but Terrico has hit shots like this most of the time this season.

  46. djrebel Says:

82-80 MSU at 2.1. Rebels have the ball and one play.

  47. djrebel Says:

Rebels get ball to Terrico, but he misses to the right of the rim — hits the glass — from about 2 steps across the halfcourt line.

FINAL: MSU 82, Ole Miss 80

  48. JB Says:

Well, my thinking is The Ole Miss Rebel basketball team has not done too bad this season considering all that has taken place in that camp this season. GO REBELS!!!

  49. ripleyreb Says:

Congratulations to The Bullies. Good luck in Tampa for both schools. Good game and great crowd today.

  50. bigdraws Says:
