HOOPS: Press conference notes

David Huertas participated in the Ole Miss shoot-around. Looks like he’ll be ready at some level for tomorrow’s noon tip against Kentucky. Huertas missed last Wednesday’s game at Arkansas with a bruised foot. He basically played only a half – scoring 10 points off the bench – in the home loss to Mississippi State in the finale. It’s strictly a pain tolerance thing for Huertas, and that’s different for different people. “They’ve told us we can’t make the injury worse by him playing,” Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy said. …

Saw some UK fans driving down yesterday. It will be interesting to see how many are here tomorrow. They sold their 1,100 ticket allotment, but just sold the last one a couple of days ago. …

Saw some Arkansas fans driving down too. I have an idea how many of those will be here, and it isn’t that many. Actually, here in the most geographically challenging area of the “SEC footprint” no overwhelming crowd is expected from any school, except maybe the Gators. …

The arena, the St. Pete Times Forum, is very nice, though. This is the first time I’ve seen the SEC Fan Fare interactive experience set up completely outside. That’s the way it should be in South Florida, I reckon. …
