Nothern Arizona????? Are you kidding me?????? Come on Pete…..

  2. Jeff Jolly Says:

Does anyone know the final for the baseball game? Last I saw….Rebels were up 6-1 in the bottom of the eight.

  3. david Says:

    7-1 rebs….up next Memphis high

  4. L2 Says:

    Wow.

  5. rebfan Says:

yeah, wow. they were 5th place in the SWAC last year.

  6. VA Reb Says:

Nothern Arizona…I suppose USM, Jackson State, and Alcorn weren’t available…..

  7. RavenReb Says:

Northern Arizona is where Michael Herrick (rebel backup QB in 2007)ended up. According to the NAU website “the Lumberjacks added transfer Michael Herrick from Ole Miss for the 2008 season” He was the no.1 backup to a 5th year senior in 2008 and should be the leading candidate for the starters job in ’09. If so, it will be interesting to see what the “former all-time passing leader in California HS football” can do against SEC level competition.

  8. Jeff Jolly Says:

This game should be a “freebie” for season ticket holders. I live in Mobile and love the Rebels. But Pete would have to pay me travel and per diem to travel to Oxford to watch this game.

Two games in the season ticket package that are not worth 10 cents. I have total confidence in all our coaches, but the administration leaves a lot to be desired.

  9. djrebel Says:

On the flip side, having a game in November where you can rest some players is not a terrible thing.

  10. Jeff Jolly Says:

While that may be true PA….in high school…our coach never shied away from playing anyone. He said, “To be the best….you have to beat the best.”

If the Rebels are as good as we all and several polls seem to think…then the Rebels (barring injuries like BB endured this year) could very well be in the thick of things come November. While we are playing Northern whoever….others will be playing top notch teams. Who do you think will be more impressive? And heaven forbid….we have a let down and play a close game with them.

This schedule should have been complete long ago. Pete can blame ESPN all he wants….it doesn’t wash with me.

  11. djrebel Says:

Jeff, there isn’t a whole lot of upside with this, and it comes at a particularly bad time with the team poised for a potential BCS run. If anyone needed two I-AA teams it was Ed.

You said it. I know OM didn’t have a lot to work with but this is a terrible game. If the Rebels are a legitimate contender, this game will come back to haunt them. Remember Auburn going undefeated. I’m not saying the Rebs will go undefeated, but if they have the year everyone is expecting this game could be damning. I going love every minute of next year regardless. Go Rebels

  13. m4rebs Says:

Agreed it will be a long shot, but it would be ashamed if for the 2nd time in school history, our Rebels go undefeated, there is a STRONG possibility of not making the BCS NC game. Then again, we may be propelled to the No.1 spot IF (a huge IF) we were to make it to Atlanta and beat the No.1 Defending NC Gators from Gainesville. Regardless of who else is on the schedule, it would be VERY difficult to deny that team.
I’m more in agreement with Jeff Jolly’s points….2 games on the Season Ticket holders with $40 printed on them, that aren’t worth $0.05. PA – there’s 4 waiting on your for Northern Arizona & SE Louisiana….unless it’s a sellout and I can make $5 off them each (just joking!!!)

  14. ColoradoReb Says:

I’d just as soon stay home as play a Jr. College. Pete must go! I’m building the site as soon as I figure out how.

  15. ColoradoReb Says:

We have 0% chance of a national title playing these little teams

  16. djrebel Says:

Guys, that’s a work day for me, so I’ll be there regardless. My wife doesn’t have a passion for sports, so to speak, more of an interest based around the subject of when I’m getting home. That being said she likes to see the “can of food” games on the schedule. Sometimes with games like this you can get in with a can of food, and you can always spread out and have more room. Matt, I may take you up on those tickets if I can’t get the kids in on a can of food.

  17. djrebel Says:

Colorado, I wouldn’t say it’s quite that low. Obviously the SOS is going to take a hit, but if you win the West and win in Atlanta, I’m not sure that won’t get you in the game. Lots of things happen depending on how things play out in November.

  18. SSA Says:

I also can’t believe the bye is that early…11 straight games and no break during the sec schedule! This entire situation is horrible

  19. m4rebs Says:

Agreed again SSA, why take Sept 12th off (especially when you could play a DI team), then play a ton of games in a row? Take off in November, when you are tired, and need to go home to your mama, and get some good ole home cooking, before the big tests with LSU and the fighting Crooms, I mean Bulldogs.

  20. rebelgiant66 Says:

    Hey PA,

Why even schedule the 12th game? It won’t help in the pursuit of a bowl game (although I know we have higher ambitions that to just be bowl eligible).
Teams are not REQUIRED to play 12 are they? Seems like this game is just a big waste of time.
And what if a key player was to get hurt in this game??

  21. djrebel Says:

It’s about money Giant. It’s the reason all teams are playing 12 games and not 11 like the old days.

Every home game is a boost to the school’s bank account as well as the local economy.

You know the saying, “Don’t shoot yourself in the foot.”

…We just shot off our entire leg.
