  2. djrebel Says:

    First Inning
Tide goes in order against Pomeranz.

Jordan Henry reaches on an error for Ole Miss, takes second on a fly ball by Ferguson, steals third and scores when the throw goes into left field. 1-0 Ole Miss.

Power trotted to first base after taking ball 3. They played the walk music and everything, but then he came back and struck out.

    Phillips also fanned.

    1 run, 0 hits, 2 errors.

    Ole Miss 1, Alabama 0

  3. djrebel Says:

    Top of the Second
Pomeranz works Matthew low and away, goes 2-2 and gets him to ground to second.

Pomeranz walks May but gets out of the inning when the 6-hole hitter, Moore, grounds to Mort for a double play.

Pomeranz has been behind in the count to five of the six batters he’s faced.

    — PA

  4. djrebel Says:

    Bottom Second
Rebels get a two-run double from Mort, an RBI single from Henry to move the lead to 4-0.

Some nice small ball in the inning when Button laid down a bunt on the third base side of the mound to move Travis and Smith up a base for Mort.

Smith had a nice, patient at-bat. Lasted 10 pitches, then he walked.

Hyatt threw 51 pitches in the inning.

    Ole Miss 4, Alabama 0

    — PA

  5. djrebel Says:

    Top 3
Pomeranz looked like he would survive a leadoff double with the runner at third and 2 outs, but Ferguson committed an error and the run scored. It was a hard hit ball and a hard bounce to Ferguson from leadoff batter Tyler Dugas. It wasn’t a typical play.

Tide gets a run on one hit and one error.

    Ole Miss 4, Alabama 1

    — PA

  6. djrebel Says:

Rebels go in order in the bottom of the third.

    Ole Miss 4-1.

    — PA

  7. djrebel Says:

    Top 4
Pomeranz gives up a leadoff triple but is unscathed after the batter, Wilson, gets caught in a rundown when Matthes grounds to third for a fielder’s choice.

Pomeranz got a big second out with a swinging strikeout of May, then got Moore on a comebacker to leave Matthes at second.

    Ole Miss 4-1

    — PA

  8. djrebel Says:

    Bottom 4
Rebels go in order. Hyatt has retired seven straight.

    Ole Miss 4-1

    — PA

  9. djrebel Says:

    Top 5
Tide scores on Smith’s solo home run. They also get a single and double in the inning but make an out on the basepath when Basham guns down Fubal at second.

Pomeranz gets 2-hole hitter Rutledge to pop to CF for the third out, but they’re getting good swings off on him through five.

    Ole Miss 4-2

    — PA

  10. djrebel Says:

    Bott 5
Rebels get a run back. Henry singles with one out, steals second and scores when Power on a two-out, 3-2 count singles into left field.

    Bama bullpen is stirring.

Matthes will be the second batter up this inning.

    Ole Miss 5-2.

    — PA

  11. djrebel Says:

    Top 6
Tide goes in order. Pomeranz fans first two hitters, Wilson and Matthes, getting both to chase a ball out of the zone for the third strike. May lines to Ferguson to end the inning.

Travis, Smith, Button due up for Ole Miss.

    — PA

  12. djrebel Says:

    Bott 6
Rebels get a 1-out double from Smith, but he’s thrown out at third on a ground ball to the pitcher by Button.

    Ole Miss 5-2

    — PA

  13. m4rebs Says:

Sure wish I was there PA. How’s the crowd?

  14. djrebel Says:

    Top 7
Pomeranz gives up a 2-out solo home run to 8-hole hitter DiFazio. Bama has 6 hits, 5 for extra bases, 2 home runs.

Mort, Basham, Henry due up for Ole Miss.

    Ole Miss 5-3

    — PA

  15. djrebel Says:

Matt, the crowd looks really good. We haven’t heard a figure yet, but it looks noticeably larger than what I would expect for most Friday night games in the old stadium.

  16. m4rebs Says:

Pomz is scattering them, but they are well-hit scatters then….this one is going to get really close in the last 2 AB’s for the Tide. They have a lot of confidence after the UGA series last weekend.

  17. djrebel Says:

    Bott 7
Hyatt sets Rebels down in order. Tide’s top 3 in the order coming to the plate.

    Ole Miss 5-3

    — PA

  18. djrebel Says:

Miller just went in as a defensive replacement. This inning should tell the tale. If Bama gets a man on Matthes will bat again.

  19. djrebel Says:

Pitching change for Ole Miss with one out in the eighth and a man on second.

Jake Morgan replaces Pomeranz. Morgan’s been warming up for a while now, but Bittle was beginning to warm as well.

Pomeranz goes 7 1-3. He will either win or get a no-decision.

He started the eighth with a swinging strikeout of Dugas, the leadoff man, but Rutledge doubled to the left field corner on a 1-2 count.

Morgan starts with Wilson, the 3-hole hitter.

    Ole Miss 5-3.

    — PA

  20. djrebel Says:

    Stilll in the 8th.

Morgan pitches to one batter and gets Wilson to ground to first for the second out. Rutledge advances to third.

    Bittle in to face Matthes.

Morgan leaves to nice applause after 2 pitches worth of work.

    Ole Miss 5-3

    — PA

  21. m4rebs Says:

That was awkward….why waste Morgan in case this thing goes deeper than 9? Why not push the Bittle button first?

  22. m4rebs Says:

Then again, why push it at all if he’s just going to walk everybody?

  23. djrebel Says:

    Top 8
Bittle opens with six straight balls. He walks the first three batters he faces, including the pinch-hitter Odle to drive in a run. He had three straight opportunities to get out of the inning with a strikeout and finally did against Smith to leave the bases loaded, but the lead is down to 5-4.

On the first batter, Matthes, it was clear Bittle was told to stay out of the zone and not give him the nation’s HR leader anything to hit. Not so with the other two.

    — PA

  24. djrebel Says:

    Bott 8
Rebels go in order against Hyatt.

To the ninth we go. Bittle on the mound, McKean in the pen.

    Ole Miss 5-4

  25. rebel2011 Says:

PA, do you have any idea how many pitches Hyatt has thrown? Must be close to 150. This one is a barnburner.

  26. m4rebs Says:

What has happened to our All-American????

  27. m4rebs Says:

We’ll have 3 AB’s in the Bottom half of the inning. Baseball is the ultimate momentum sport, and we……don’t have it.

  28. flareb Says:

    What’s the score?

  29. m4rebs Says:

7-5 Tide, now. Gave up 1 in the 7th, 1 in the 8th, and 3 in the 9th. We are in deep trouble. Listening on Alabama Sports Network and they are dogging us and our fans, big time.

  30. djrebel Says:

    Top 9
Bittle gives up the lead when a wild pitch to ties the game, then Bama takes the lead on a 2-run single.

McKean gets the Rebels out of the inning.

In the ninth now, Smith doubles to lead off, but Rebels trail 7-5.

  31. rebel2011 Says:

Matt, do you know anything about this Nelson guy of theirs? Is he any good. Matt Smith led off with a double off him. That’s a good start.

  32. flareb Says:

Something about Bama that doesn’t mix well with Ole Miss…….

  33. m4rebs Says:

The CTSN says he’s a beast, but anybody wearing Crimson and White are beasts to them.

  34. m4rebs Says:

You can say that again, FLA. I live with em.

  35. flareb Says:

Ole Miss mixes well with Gators so they stay off my back. If I were you I would consider relocating.

  36. flareb Says:

    M4,
    Do we have anything working?

  37. m4rebs Says:

2 on, 1 out after Mort walks – after the CTSN guys went nuts and called a strike out on a foul tip. Gotta love it.

  38. m4rebs Says:

I’ll try to give something regularly FLA.

  39. rebel2011 Says:

Bash needs one of his doubles down the line desperately right now

  40. m4rebs Says:

Smith at 2nd, Mort at 1st and Wells is discussing the situation with Nelson.

  41. rebel2011 Says:

    Well, Matt Snyder, not Basham

  42. m4rebs Says:

    0-2 to Basham.

  43. m4rebs Says:

Sorry, Snyder and he fouls off another.

  44. flareb Says:

I’m trying to excersise the demons. I had the Bullies winning two games in my pool and its been downhill ever since.

  45. m4rebs Says:

Snyder hit in the foot. Bases loaded.

  46. m4rebs Says:

I did the exact same thing FLA. Never going with them again!!! They were out of gas after the cross-country trip.

  47. rebel2011 Says:

    Come on Jordan Henry.

  48. m4rebs Says:

    0-1 to Jordan Henry

  49. m4rebs Says:

    1-1

  50. m4rebs Says:

    1-2 off a foul tip.

  51. m4rebs Says:

    2-2

  52. flareb Says:

    I feel pressure.

  53. m4rebs Says:

Full count and the CTSN guys are sick.

  54. m4rebs Says:

    Ball 4

  55. m4rebs Says:

7-6 bases still loaded, still 1 out. Zach Miller to the plate.

  56. rebel2011 Says:

Come on now, need at least one more run, two would be better, but I would take a sac fly right now.

  57. m4rebs Says:

    Fielder’s choice and it’s 7 apiece. 2 outs. 90 feet from a win.

  58. rebel2011 Says:

    come on Logan Power

  59. m4rebs Says:

Power at bat, and they will pitch “carefully” to him with 1st base open. 1-1.

  60. rebel2011 Says:

Even though Bittle pitched bad, we need to bail him out right here with a single, passed ball, etc.

  61. m4rebs Says:

We win on a wild pitch, HOTTTTTTTYYYYY TODDYYYYY!!!!!!!

  62. djrebel Says:

Rebels win 8-7 on a passed balll. One good blow up deserves another, I reckon. MOre later.

  63. flareb Says:

Let’s avoid the late Skip Cary’s famous words….free baseball

  64. m4rebs Says:

Good call 2011. Very fortunate to win that one fellas. We’ve got to get better. By tomorrow!!!

  65. m4rebs Says:

Sorry for taking over there, PA. I thought you had packed up.

  66. flareb Says:

    Outstanding………….Matt, appreciate the updates.

  67. m4rebs Says:

Your welcome FLA, although PA may not have appreciated me walking all over him. Again, sorry PA.

  68. rebel2011 Says:

Wow, what a game. It was not pretty, but a win is a win is a win. I am hoping to be back in town in time for Sunday’s game, hopefully we will be going for the sweep!

  69. m4rebs Says:

The Bamer guys act like we stole one, but they’ve got to admit as PA has already mentioned…..we gave them the 4 in the 8th and 9th, they gave us a couple in the 9th too. Eat poop Bamers!!!!!

  70. Brian Says:

Home or away. Take every SEC win anyway you can! This has to help in close games in the future. They have already done it and they will have confidence in late innings in close games later on. Keep the W’s coming! Overcome mistakes and keep composure. I assume Coach B. has to get some credit there as well.

  71. JB Says:

WOW!! I gave up on the Rebs to soon. It was 7-5 top of 9th and Bittle was doing his walking exercise. I think 5BB at that time and off to bed I went thanking another Ole Miss game as ususal – blowing it.

  72. djrebel Says:

Matt, I appreciate the updates. Jump in late any time. That’s when it gets problematic on a Friday night. Gotta start working on the print edition when it starts get around 9:45.
