It’s about 3 minutes to tip here. Arkansas always brings a horde of media, and for the first time the new upper deck seating is full. At least one of them has complained about that, but from what I hear, I’ll be in the stands at Bud Walton later this year.
This one’s not on TV. Leave your comments and observations below.

Malcolm White, Murphy Holloway, Zach Graham, Will Bogan, David Huertas are Ole Miss starters.
Former Ole Miss coach Rob Evans is across the way as an Arkansas assistant.
January 14, 2009 at 8:05 pm |
Houston’ s back from the convention and watching his old team.
January 14, 2009 at 8:13 pm |
Tmeout at 14:52. Rebels up 8-4. Arkansas is 1-for-5 from the field, missing some 3s badly. Looks like MSU hangover in the early going. Hogs are getting to the free throw line, though, and they’ll be shooting two when play resumes. 3 team fouls for Ole Miss, none for Arkansas.
January 14, 2009 at 8:14 pm |
Looks like Houston and Hardy will meet tomorrow. Decision has to come by midnight tomorrow.
January 14, 2009 at 8:16 pm |
Bogan and Terrico White in the game together, with Terrico at point.
January 14, 2009 at 8:18 pm |
Bogan looks disoriented on a couple of trips and goes to the bench.
January 14, 2009 at 8:21 pm |
Rebels have scored on 4 straight trips and lead 18-8. Terrico White scores with a lob from Henry and Arkansas calls time out at 11:14.
January 14, 2009 at 8:22 pm |
Hogs Washington averages almost 18 points but has not yet scored. There’s a time out at 10:41, and he’ll be at the free throw line when play resumes.
January 14, 2009 at 8:22 pm |
Hogs shooting 25 percent, Rebels shooting 61.5.
January 14, 2009 at 8:29 pm |
Time out at 7:23. Ole Miss 26, Arkansas 10. Lots of hustle on the defensive end, and Arkansas looks frustrated.
January 14, 2009 at 8:34 pm |
A lot is going right for the Rebels right now but not much from Graham.
January 14, 2009 at 8:35 pm |
9 points for T white right now on 4-for-5 shooting.
January 14, 2009 at 8:37 pm |
6 pts, 3rebounds, 4 assists for Holloway right now. Rebels up 32-13
January 14, 2009 at 8:39 pm |
Rebels have cooled off a bit. They lead 32-16 with a time out at 3:51. Lead peaked at 32-11. Arkansas has scored on 2 straight trips and will be at the free throw line when play resumes.
Washington has one point.
Good defense by Malcolm White, but White is starting to play out of control on the offensive end a little bit. He’s feeling it, as they say.
January 14, 2009 at 8:42 pm |
Lots of hoops to go here folks, and Razorbacks are in the Bonus. Welsh is at the line now with a chance to cut the lead to 12.
January 14, 2009 at 8:44 pm |
Hogs on a 10-0 run. They’ve shot 11 free throws to none for Ole Miss.
January 14, 2009 at 8:47 pm |
Ole Miss 32-22 as Kennedy calls time out at 1:02. Hogs are on a 12-0 run. Lots of Hogs fans here, and they’re calling the Hog now.
The guard Fortson is the real deal. He just stripped Bogan and dunked and has 13 on 5-for-9 shooting. Still no free throws for Rebels.
January 14, 2009 at 8:54 pm |
Rebels up 34-24 at the half. Ole Miss shooting 50 percent, Arkansas got up to 36.4.
Terrico White leads Ole Miss with 9, though he’s cooled off since his hot start, just 0-1 after going 4-for-5. Holloway and Malcolm White have six each.
Huertas has seven points on 2-for-5 shooting.
Rebels leading the glass 18-14.
January 14, 2009 at 8:59 pm |
After well-wishers flocked to Houston at the buzzer, the crowd has parted.
The “Houston Nutt, Houston Nutt” chant was loud while Cotton Bowl highlights played on the big screen.
The Arkansas folks, and there are many, got in a few loud hog calls when the Razorbacks got back into the game with an 11-0 run.
It was a 32-11 game at one time, but Arkansas scored on 7 of its last 10 first-half possessions, some of that in transitiion, some at the free throw line.
Defense has been pretty energetic for Ole Miss, and Arkansas has looked rattled at times.
Rebels are handling the fullcourt press, but sometimes it’s not pretty.
January 14, 2009 at 9:00 pm |
Ripley Reb are you out there? You know I’m going to need you for a final.
January 14, 2009 at 9:09 pm |
Malcolm White is still “feeling it” and that’s not good news. He bricks a 15-footer from the baseline, and Fortson scores in transition for the second time.
Arkansas has cut the lead to six, at 34-28, and Ole Miss calls time out at 18:23.
January 14, 2009 at 9:13 pm |
Back to back 3s by T White and Huertas, Graham scores in the lane. Rebels up 42-30 and Arkansas calls time out at 15:50.
January 14, 2009 at 9:15 pm |
Time out at 14:50. Rebels up 42-32 and Graham at the free throw line when play resumes.
January 14, 2009 at 9:17 pm |
Watching this team for spurts I get the feeling it could have been pretty darn good with everybody healthy.
January 14, 2009 at 9:23 pm |
Rebels extend the lead. A 3 by a wide open Cranston from the corner, then Henry on a slashing move in the lane.
Ole Miss leads 51-32 and Arkansas calls time at 11:21.
January 14, 2009 at 9:32 pm |
Rebels getting to the line this half, and that’s helping. They’re 6-for-6 int he half.
January 14, 2009 at 9:34 pm |
Fortson is a great player. Fast as Warren and just as tall but stronger. Rebels lead 55-40 and are at the line when play resumes at 7:23.
Fortson has 23 of Arkansas’ 40 points. He drives in the lane, and the Rebels can’t seem to slow him too much. He’s 10-for-17 from the floor.
January 14, 2009 at 9:43 pm |
Rebels up 64-46 at 4:54 after a 3-point play by Holloway. Huertas hit 4-of-5 free throws on one trip after he was fouled on a 3 and a tech was called against Arkansas’ Welsh for complaining about the call.
January 14, 2009 at 9:45 pm |
Rebels up 64-49 at 3:27 with ball possession when play resumes.
January 14, 2009 at 9:48 pm |
PA, I’m not at the game, but can give the final score by looking online if you want….if no one else is available. I’ve been following along. Would be great win for the Rebels. I don’t think anyone is expecting much from them this year with all the injuries we’ve had.
How’s the Ole Miss crowd tonight? Are people showing up for the games? Classes haven’t started yet, have they?
January 14, 2009 at 9:52 pm |
Time out Arkansas at 1:47. Rebels lead 71-55, and I call them a projected winner.
15 for Terrico White, 16 for Huertas including half at the free throw line, 12 for Graham, 11 for Holloway.
January 14, 2009 at 9:57 pm |
Rebels getting sloppy at the end against the press. It’s 72-62 with 20.2 seconds left and Kennedy calls time out.
Arkansas will be at the free throw line with the chance to get the score under 10 when play resumes.
The lead was 21 with 10:41 left.
January 14, 2009 at 10:02 pm |
Big surprise here, Rebs a 74-65 win against the Razorback, a team that beat 2 top 10 teams in the last 2 weeks. Hotty Toddy!!!!
January 14, 2009 at 10:03 pm |
Classes start next week. Wednesday I believe.
January 14, 2009 at 10:17 pm |
Nice avitar farley. As Pat Summeral would say, “Guess what this guy’s name is?”
January 14, 2009 at 10:49 pm |
Hotty Toddy! Great job rebs
January 14, 2009 at 11:40 pm |
I was at the game PA, see where M4rebs posted the final. Good effort tonight. Looks like things are starting to click with the Freshman. Good win. We needed that.
January 15, 2009 at 1:55 am |
Great effort – great job by AK holding things together after this rough start. Really proud of the team. Here’s hoping for more the rest of the way! Great win!
January 15, 2009 at 3:38 am |
Seems its alot easier for these young players to win with home court advantage. Lets see how they do in a hostile environment. I expect to win some home games but they don’t seem to play as well on the road. I don’t think Ms A&M is any better than OM and they don’t have anyone hurt. Maybe AK can show Slick Rick how to coach a player up.
January 15, 2009 at 7:29 am |
I guess when you’ve won two straight division titles and 4 out of the last 6 then your due for a down year.
January 15, 2009 at 8:59 am |
Congrats to the Rebs and Miss A&M on their wins last evening. A&M looks good – they may be back on a serious hunt (Tide and Hogs down to them). Draws, Birdz, one of my Scripture reading today was Romans 13:1, Remember!!! Still stern in my belief and holding onto it. But do belief and honor what St Paul is writing about here. I also remember what Jesus Christ, My Lord and Saviour, did to him on the road to damascus.
January 15, 2009 at 9:09 am |
Morning JB. Is that scripture in relation to the impending inaugaration?
January 15, 2009 at 10:23 am |
YEP!!!
