FOOTBALL: Clayton Moore update

It appears Louisville quarterback Clayton Moore will walk-on at Ole Miss and enroll in school tomorrow.

Moore had a scholarship offer until a publicized falling out with his coaches. Then he was issued a walk-on invitation with a chance to earn a scholarship.

He visited Syracuse over the weekend but it’s not clear if he was offered a scholarship there.

this gives us good depth at qb because I really feel with some good coaching and the right attitude that he can be a good quarterback

Im glad Clayton Moore is coming to Ole Miss. He seems like he is real competitive and quite a gamer. Sucks what he went through, but it seems like it is all going to work out fine for everyone. I bet he will end up suprising people before his career is done.

Clayton Moore – Lone Ranger – Kurt Warner.

Kurt Warner my hero. QB Arizona Cardinals. My hopes are that Kurt will lead his Cardinals to Super Bowl Championship shortly.

I just wish he had’ve walked on when O was the coach. It woulda been great when that little brat tried to smart off to that guy.

  5. Raleighrebel Says:

Isn’t Nathan Stanley looking like a winner in practice? Hopefully this will bring some strong competition between Moore and Stanley, when we have to replace Snead.

  6. Raleighrebel Says:

Draws, got this off the Bulldog blog…http://www.wlwt.com/news/18491304/detail.html

Is this for real? I don’t see any quotes or anyone confirming this in the article.

  7. RoastBeef1 Says:

If this is true, then I’m not sure what to think. He was offered scholarships from some Big 12 and Big East schools. Why would you walk on at Ole Miss? Snead, Stanley, and potentially/probably Raymond Cotton who has offers from many SEC Schools. He’ll never play. Go to Syracuse on scholarship and start there. I hate it when some guys think they’re better than what they really are.

  8. JakeFuryReb Says:

Raleigh, I really hope that’s not true. It’s way out of line and out of the blue. Just making yourself look like an idiot.

  9. JakeFuryReb Says:

I mean ‘yourself’ as Kennedy’s wife, by the way, not you.

  10. toddy22 Says:

He supposedly did not get an offer for Syracuse. Heck, let the kid walk-on and see what he’s got. Some of the best stories are walk-on players that turn out to be gold. If he’s got it, then he plays, and if he doesn’t or gives the coach lip, then he sits. It is that easy.

  11. toddy22 Says:

And yes, the story about Kennedy’s wife is laughable at best. If it is true, then wow…

  12. bigdraws Says:

    Some more Kennedy thoughts.

Moore is the best high school QB I have seen play in north ms in years. They beat us last year in playoffs and they would not have won state this year if he had not played agaisn’t Corinth. Give him a chance if he doesn’t make it he can always transfer, but he has been high on my list for 3 years. My gosh were going to sign a kid who used his dead friends credit cards, why does Clayton not deserve a shot also.

  14. JB Says:

WOW!!! What a shame Ole Miss basketball coaching staff has got itself into.

  15. 03Rebel Says:

haven’t been following the blog closely, but what happened to the old (optimistic) JB. I think he may have been sent to a nursing home and someone is posing as him.

  16. JB Says:

Some times optimism can be overriden by realism. Nursing home is where I should be, but then, BIG BROTHER, would take away my “old age pension” check. Happy trails everyone, hope to see you in The Rapture.

  17. RoastBeef1 Says:

I saw Moore play in high school and he was good, but I didn’t think he was that spectacular. If you’re just talking about North MS guys in the past few years, I’d take Jefcoat or Garrett over him any day.

  18. RoastBeef1 Says:

And I just looked at Moore’s page on Rivals. He had offers from Iowa, Louisville, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Southern Miss, Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin (those were just the schools of his interest). If Ole Miss gets Cotton to play QB, Moore will just be a career backup. He could have still gone to a quality program and competed for a starting job I’m sure. What are the chances he jumps over both Cotton and Stanley? Very slim. Again, I wish he would have made a better decision for himself.

  19. Mooch Says:

If the CM wants to walk-on at OleMiss and the Coaches are interested then more power to him. Who cares what other offers he did or didn’t have. Like someone mentioned earlier about recruiting and signing Hornsby..why doesn’t Clayton deserve the benefit or another chance, instead of being called a ‘brat’ and labelled ‘career backup’?

  20. akrebel Says:

I think Moore has a legit chance to be successful. Cotton has potential, but still has a ways to go before he is ready to play SEC, and is also not a definite commit. Stanley has never played a down in a game so he is an unknown. Obviously other teams recognize Moore has some kind of talent, and as we have all seen its not always the quarterback with the best physical tools that ends up being the best player. In his defense he is also a 17/18 year old kid…there is not anyone out there that does regret some dumb decision you made at that age. Im sure he has learned from it and is ready to move on.

  21. ColoradoReb Says:

This guy is an athelete. I’m sure Nutt will find a place for him to play. Cotton is coming to OM. Boys it looks like we have a chance to dominate in the SEC for the first time since my Daddy played at OM. He is in his 70’s now, but if you look at the teams back then, OM was definately one of the best. Bye Bye Wilson, I guess he took one look at the State cheerleaders and headed out.

  22. rebnutt Says:

Stanley will start after Snead leaves or if he gets hurt, his arm & other qualities may be almost as good as Jevan’s, per the coaches. Can Moore possibly play at another position?

  23. ColoradoReb Says:

I think he played some at reciever in Jr. High. He can also be used in the wild rebel. Nutt will design an offense that is inclusive of players that can make plays.

  24. doubletripper Says:

coach vaught had a very nice career at ole miss and one thing that helped him do that was that he signed every QB and FB he could get his hands on. the 2 or 3 best he kept there and the rest played another position. he always said the best athlets on all high school teams were the QB’s. welcome LONE RANGER.

  25. ColoradoReb Says:

Thats very true doubletripper. I think Nutt is alot like Vaught in that aspect don’t you?

  26. colreb420 Says:

what is wrong with depth at all postions RB? clayton adds depth at qb and could turn out to be great. he is the #2 qb in the state. he is walking on and freeing up a scholly for someone eles. I love this move it is a win win for all parties.

  27. 03Rebel Says:

a win for all CR, except RB and Moo U.

  28. RoastBeef1 Says:

No guys, don’t get me wrong, I’m glad OM has him now. Depth is great. I’m just saying that sometimes I wish some of these prospects would look at the best possible scenario for themselves. I don’t think he’ll ever start at OM. He might get some mop up duty but that’ll be it. Think about it like this, you have the possibility of Stanley, Cotton, and now Moore in a few years. And who’s to say Nutt doesn’t go out and get another QB that’s even better than Moore? This recruiting class isn’t it as far as the future of a team goes. Moore just needs to think about this or he’ll end up like Barnes at Georgia, who now couldn’t even start at Delta State. Again, glad to have him but there are numerous scouts who haven’t bought into this kid and he needs to think hard about this.

And colreb, he’s not opening a scholarship really. We’re already basically over the limit for a signing class. We frankly just don’t have a scholarship to give him. He’s on the priority list for one though. Not exactly freeing up one.

  29. ColoradoReb Says:

He hasn’t been promised anything other than a chance to walk on and prove himself. Last I checked we are not over the limit on scholarships either. Thats what Mullen has been telling all our prospects in an effort to sway them. “You won’t ever get to play over at OM. They’re over the limit on scholarships and they have way too much depth at your position.” The levels that Moo U sinks to to get someone to go to that corn field.

  30. 03Rebel Says:

EVERYONE is “over” their limit RB. No one is struggling to find HS players to fill scholarships, they are all fighting for the best talent. Especially in MS, grades have a huge impact.
